Chapter 360: Pedro Wants to Apologize
He had only just woken up from a nap, but somehow it felt like the whole world had gone mad.
"You're awake?" Adeline asked, reaching out her hand to Harrison.
Harrison walked over, took her hand, and sat down beside her.
Joyce, who had been sitting beside Adeline, immediately and tactfully scooted over, leaving the couple some space. She wasn't about to stick around as a third wheel.
Pedro watched them, the intimacy between the two stabbing at his heart.
His jealousy burned, but more than that, what gnawed at him was the crushing humiliation that was about to come. In front of Harrison, he was about to lose whatever dignity he had left.
When he saw Harrison coming down the stairs earlier, all he could think was that his nightmare was finally over.
But now, the harsh reality hit him. He had to apologize to Harrison before he could truly be free.
Harrison was his rival, a man who had won Adeline's heart when Pedro had failed.
And now, he was forced to apologize to his rival.
It was too much. The shame was unbearable.
"Mr. Livingston, aren't you going to start?" Joyce said, her voice full of mischievous delight.
Pedro stood up reluctantly from the couch, his posture stiff with reluctance.
"What's going on?" Harrison asked, his eyes narrowing.
"Pedro needs to apologize to you," Adeline said casually, her tone indifferent. "For what happened last night."
As soon as she said that, everything clicked for Harrison.
So it was him behind last night's trouble.
Clearly, Pedro didn't seem a bit slow-witted.
Even though Yewhaina was far from ideal for the Thomson family to operate in, dealing with a minor family like the Livingston family was hardly a challenge.
Was Pedro not worried about angering him?
"Mr. Livingston, why aren't you starting yet?" Joyce urged, her voice dripping with satisfaction.
Pedro hesitated, still trying to fight it.
But looking at Adeline's expression, he knew he couldn't escape this.
With a sigh, he turned to Harrison. "I'm sorry."
Adeline looked at him, unamused. "That's not sincere enough."
Pedro clenched his teeth, humiliation flooding through him. "Sorry, Mr. Thomson. I shouldn't have acted impulsively and sent people to hurt you."
As soon as he spoke, he felt like he could hardly breathe.
This was a level of disgrace he had never experienced before.
"Do you think that's enough?" Adeline asked, glancing at Harrison.
Harrison nodded once, uninterested in engaging further.
He wasn't about to stoop to Pedro's level.
The important thing was that the Livingston and Mendoza families had a long-standing relationship. He couldn't just disregard Adeline's family, no matter how much of a fool Pedro had made of himself.
He knew that Adeline insisted on the apology mainly to give him some peace of mind, and he was glad for her.
"Can I leave now?" Pedro asked, his voice tight with frustration.
"For sure," Adeline said, her smile a little too sweet.
Pedro could hardly bear it any longer. He spun on his heels and stormed out of the room.
Today, he had lost face in front of Harrison like never before.
And he couldn't help but wonder what kind of spell Harrison had cast on Adeline.
It was all his fault for sending those useless men.
If they had actually taken care of Harrison, maybe his humiliation would have been worth it.
But now, Harrison was unscathed, and Pedro had been forced to apologize like a coward.
Once Pedro left, Joyce made her excuses and headed for the kitchen, leaving the two alone.
Harrison seemed unchanged, relaxed, as if the tension from earlier had never existed.
Adeline, however, was still concerned.
"I had a weird dream just now," Harrison said, his tone casual, but his eyes were distant. "I dreamed I told my mom about what happened. She couldn't handle it and cried uncontrollably." It wasn't surprising-what he thought about during the day often came back to him in his dreams.
Harrison had been brooding over this for days, so it was no wonder he'd dreamed about it.
When he'd first woken up, he'd been a bit disoriented, almost unable to tell what was real and what was part of the dream.
"Tomorrow is Christmas Eve," Adeline said, trying to lighten the mood. "If you want to talk about this, maybe we should wait until after the holiday. Otherwise..."
Otherwise, the Thomson family might not even get to enjoy the holiday.
Adeline knew how important Christmas was to Lorenzo, and disrupting that would only make things worse.
"Mm," Harrison nodded in agreement.
If he had told the Thomson family now, they'd probably come straight to Yewhaina.
And then the holiday would be ruined.
Adeline had just received word that Edward's family had tried to leave, but the Mendoza family had stopped them.
Edward, that fool, always thought of running away when things got tough.
When Harrison had confronted him, Edward had cried, apologized profusely, and acted like he was truly sorry.
But now, when it mattered, he was trying to escape.
Hadn't Harrison already made it clear how much this situation had affected his family?
Was Edward really so callous that he didn't care?
Adeline had planned to tell Harrison everything, but then she hesitated.
If she did, it would only upset him more.
Harrison had finally returned to his usual self, but things like this weren't easy to forget or forgive.
Meanwhile, Edward and his family were hiding out in a small inn near the bus station.
"Mom, weren't we supposed to go on a trip?
Why are we staying here instead?" Alondra asked, confused.
Britney bit her lip, glaring at Edward.
They had been about to board a bus when a group of men stopped them, telling them they couldn't leave the city.
Panicked, they'd fled to the nearest inn to hide.
"The Thomson family is this powerful now?"
Britney snapped. "Their reach even extends all the way to Yewhaina?"
Edward cradled his head in his hands, utterly lost.
He had no idea what was going on with the
Thomson family.
"What do we do now?" Britney asked again, her voice rising in fear. "We can't leave. In a few days, the Thomson family will come for us." Edward closed his eyes, his voice hollow.
"If they come, they come. After all these years, I should go back."
"But what about us?" Britney argued, " If the Thomson family won't accept us, what will we do? We'll be left out on the streets!"
Edward tried to reassure her, "Don't worry.
You're my wife, and Alondra's my daughter. I won't abandon you two."
Britney laughed bitterly. "How can I not worry? You're the one who's been trying to run away because you're unsure of everything. Now that we can't escape, you tell me not to worry. And you say I'm your wife? But don't you have a wife in the Thomson family? What, do you expect us to just stare at each other and figure out who's in charge?"
Edward frowned, clearly taken aback.
"Myra? After all these years, she should've remarried by now, don't you think?"
The year he faked his death,., right?
Britney's face twisted with anger. "No. She hasn't remarried. She hasn't moved on!"
If Myra had already remarried, she wouldn't have to worry now!
Over the years, whenever she had nothing to do, she'd go online and search for information about the Thomson family, so she knew that Myra was still with the Thomson family.
Upon hearing her words, Edward looked shocked.

ReplyDeleteThis man brain not nothing but a butterfly brain
ReplyDeleteI love Myra's guts in handling her husband's fake death and now imagine how it got her name cleared in the faking of her husband's death while she still remains with the Thomson's family
