Chapter 363: It’s Obsession
Isaline continued playing with the sparkler in her hand, while Harrison stood nearby, watching her.
However, he quietly stepped back a couple of paces, putting more distance between them.
He was afraid he might get possessed again.
Meanwhile, Sam sat on the sofa in the Juarez family's living room, fiddling with his phone, a troubled expression on his face.
He was debating whether he should take the chance and call Harrison for a video chat.
He knew Joyce was at the Mendoza family.
Maybe, just maybe, if he called Harrison, he could also get a glimpse of Joyce.
To be honest, over the past few days, he had found himself thinking about her quite a bit.
He kept wondering if she was doing fine on her own. Was anyone bullying her? What if she ran into someone like Callan again?
Knowing she had safely made it to the Mendoza family had somewhat eased his worries, but he still longed to see her.
Sam had no idea what kind of feelings he had for Joyce.
When Harrison had come to him for advice about relationships, Sam had seemed confident.
But when it came to his own feelings, he had absolutely no clarity.
Just then, someone came to tell him that a man was at the door looking for him.
"Who's coming to find me at this time?" Sam asked impatiently.
"I don't know," said his cousin, who was visiting for the holidays. "He's tall, slim, has a refined air about him, and he's kind of handsome."
When Sam heard the description, something/ clicked in his mind.
He immediately stood up and walked toward the door.
At the entrance of the Juarez family, a man was standing there.
It was Callan.
It had been a while since they'd last seen each other, and Callan had clearly changed.
He looked much thinner and visibly worn out. His hair had even turned noticeably grayer.
He looked like he had aged ten years.
"Look who it is," Sam said, his face darkening.
"What's the matter? You coming here to fight on Christmas Eve?"
Sam's injuries from the previous fight hadn't fully healed yet, but just looking at Callan made him want to throw a punch.
However, Callan didn't seem interested in a fight.
Instead, he looked at Sam, his voice hoarse as he, asked, "Where's Joyce?"
"I don't know," Sam replied coldly.
"You don't know? How could you not know?" Callan suddenly shouted, sounding like he was losing control. "Tell me where she is. I want to see her."
He kicked a nearby car's tire in frustration.
Sam just stood there, watching impassively.
After all, it was Callan's own car.
Sam didn't care.
"Callan, stop bothering Miss Monroe," Sam said.
"You say you like her, but look at what you've done. Today is Christmas Eve, and because of you, she can't go home and spend the holiday with her parents."
"Why... Why does she avoid me?"
"Don't you know why?"
Callan's face twisted with pain. "But I love her so much! I can't stand the thought of her loving someone else. I can't bear it if she hates me because of another man."
"That's not love," Sam said flatly. "That's obsession."
Callan didn't seem to hear him.
To Sam's surprise, Callan suddenly dropped to his knees in front of him.
"Please," Callan pleaded, his voice cracking.
"Please, tell me where Joyce is. Please."
At that moment, Callan looked small, broken, and pitiful.
But Sam couldn't find it in himself to feel sorry for him-not after everything Callan had done.
And he certainly wouldn't give up Joyce's location just because Callan had kneeled,
Moreover, Callan had once sent people to attack him.
So, if anything, Callan's kneeling was more like an apology for that,
"I told you already," Sam said, "I don't know where she is, And frankly, I don't want to waste my time on you during Christmas. Go away."
With that, Sam turned and started walking back inside, But just as he was about to enter, Callan suddenly screamed, "Sam! Just because I can't find her now doesn't mean I'll never find her!"
Sam's hands clenched into fists.
He turned back around and walked up to Callan, throwing a punch that landed squarely on Callan's face.
The pain from his own wounds flared up, but he didn't care.
Callan fell to the ground from the force of the punch.
Sam grabbed Callan by the collar and yanked him back up.
"I won't let you harass her again," Sam said, his voice cold and deadly. "Callan, don't think that just because you have Jamarion backing you, you can do whatever you want. I admit that the Juarez family doesn't have the same power as Jamarion's, but if you push me too far, I can't guarantee what I'll do."
Callan didn't fight back. He just stared vacantly at Sam and said, "I just want to know where Joyce is."
Sam punched him again. "You'll never find out." With that, Sam turned and walked away, leaving Callan lying there.
Blood trickled from the corner of Callan's mouth, but he didn't care. His eyes were cold, fixed on Sam's retreating back.
Not being able to see Joyce was driving him to the edge.
What infuriated him even more was the realization that Joyce had left just to avoid him.
Callan thought, "How could she do this to me? I love her so much. I will do anything for her."
He had almost done something to hurt her in the past, but that had been a mistake.
Callan slammed his fist into the nearby wall, his hand aching, but he seemed to feel nothing.
"Joyce, I will have you, by any means necessary."
The Mendoza family had been celebrating, laughing, and chatting until midnight.
After eating again, everyone began to feel sleepy and headed back to their rooms.
There was a banquet to prepare for tomorrow, so they couldn't stay up too late.
Adeline and Joyce shared a room that night.
The two were chatting while playing with their phones, and Adeline opened up a group chat with her colleagues. One of her coworkers had posted. "I have a friend who knows Mr. Hunter.
He said Mr. Hunter is spending Christmas alone. How sad."
Thinking about the Hunter family's situation, Adeline realized that if she was in his shoes, she probably wouldn't go back either.
Another colleague asked, "Is that true? Why is he spending Christmas alone?"
"I'm not sure. I just heard that he and his family had some kind of falling out."
"Must be a pretty big argument if he's spending Christmas alone."
At that moment, Joyce nudged Adeline and said,"Breaking news. I heard Mr. Hunter is spending Christmas alone."
"You heard about it too?"
"Of course! We get all the gossip at the magazine office."
Adeline sighed. "Mr. Hunter has a tough life."
She knew what it was like to struggle.
But now, she had reconnected with her parents and was with the man she loved.
Things were getting better for her.
But Russell was still alone, silently suffering.
"Yeah," Joyce agreed. "His own family treats him like that, and the woman he likes doesn't return his feelings. It's really tragic."
