Chapter 353: Lucky He Didn’t Go
"Is it really Pedro?" Adeline asked, her voice tinged with disbelief. "But that can't be right.
The Mendoza family and the Livingston family have such a strong relationship, and the Livingston family has only been able to grow in recent years because of the Mendoza family's support. Do you really think Pedro would send a few people to bully my boyfriend?"
As soon as she finished speaking, she noticed Harrison raising an eyebrow at her.
She quickly corrected herself, "I mean, my boyfriend 'bullied' them. Not the other way around."
Of course, the people Pedro sent to confront Harrison probably didn't expect Harrison to be so skilled at fighting.
In fact, Pedro was one of those who dared to go after him.
Earlier that day, after Adeline and Harrison left, Pedro had spent some time sitting around at the Mendoza family, but eventually, he felt restless and decided to leave.
However, the more he thought about it, the
angrier he became.
Pedro cursed in his heart, "Damn! The Thomson family might be powerful, but Yewhaina was my territory. Who did Harrison think he was, being so arrogant? And on top of that, he had stolen Adeline!"
Pedro felt his blood pressure rise. If he didn't do something to vent his frustration, he was certain he would explode.
So, he called up a friend of his.
This friend had a crew of tough guys who could hold their own in a fight.
Pedro was determined to teach Harrison a lesson.
Of course, he had told his friend specifically to give Harrison a good beating but to avoid hurting Adeline.
First, he couldn't bear to harm her beautiful face.
Second, Adeline was Issac's precious daughter. If they upset the Mendoza family and it came back to bite him, it wouldn't matter how much his mother tried to save him.
And honestly, Pedro only hated Harrison.
So, as long as Harrison got a good beating, he'd feel satisfied.
Right now, Pedro was parked at an intersection near the Mendoza manor, waiting for the call.
He was listening to music in the car, imagining how good it would feel to know that Harrison was getting his due.
But then, as he stared out the window, he noticed a familiar car speeding by.
It was the same car that the young men had been. driving earlier.
Pedro's eyes widened in surprise.
He thought, "How could they be back so soon? Havent they spent enough time pounding on Harrison?"
He felt a surge of annoyance.
The car pulled up next to him, and Pedro rolled down his window, ready to ask them what was going on. But as soon as he saw the state of the guys who got out of the car, his eyes nearly popped out of his head.
"What the hell happened to you guys?"
Pedro demanded, his face darkening. "Why do you all look like you've been beaten up?"
"Mr. Livingston... we couldn't beat him," one of the young men said, his face twisted with regret.
"What do you mean, you couldn't beat him?"
Pedro barked. "Was there anyone else with him, besides Adeline?"
"No... no, it was just him.." another one stammered.
Pedro's expression darkened further.
"You're telling me that all of you together couldn't take down one person? Are you all useless or what?" he shouted, his anger rising.
"We're really sorry, Mr. Livingston," the first guy said, his face apologetic. "But we don't want to mess with him again. We've never seen anyone like him. They say men from his country are good at fighting, and it turns out that's true."
Pedro's face went red with rage.
He'd been waiting for the satisfaction of seeing Harrison beaten, but instead, the guys he sent were now the ones who were bruised and battered.
Thank goodness he hadn't gone himself.
Otherwise, he'd be the one lying on the ground right now.
That would've been embarrassing.
"Please tell me you didn't mention my name to hÃm," Pedro said, his voice cold.
"No, no... we ran as soon as we could," one of the guys assured him.
"Good. Now get lost. You worthless bunch: I'm definitely telling your boss about this," Pedro sneered, his temper flaring.
The young men hastily got back in the car and drove off, leaving Pedro fuming.
He slammed his hand against the steering wheel, frustrated. He turned off the music and rolled down the window, letting the cold night air cool his temper.
What was he supposed to do now?
At that moment, someone suddenly appeared at his car window. It happened so fast that Pedro nearly jumped out of his skin.
"Who... who are you?" Pedro stammered, still trying to process what just happened.
After giving the young men a good thrashing, Harrison felt a sense of relief wash over him.
He couldn't help but wonder who had been so "kind" to deliver these targets to him.
He noticed Adeline yawning beside him, and smiled. "It's getting late. Let's head back."
"Alright," she agreed.
Back at the mansion, on the third floor, Harrison looked at Adeline's bedroom door and let out a deep sigh.
During dinner, Isaac had specifically told him that his guest room was next to Adeline's, and he made it clear that Harrison wasn't
supposed to stay in the same room with her tonight.
Isaac wasn't trying to be harsh-he understood how young lovers were, but he felt this was a matter of principle. After all, they weren't married yet.
Harrison understood Isaac's reasoning.
He respected the man, especially since Isaac was his future father-in-law.
And while Harrison definitely intended to marry Adeline, for now, he'd abide by Isaac's wishes.
Still, he couldn't help but feel a little disappointed.
It was another night alone.
Adeline looked at his slightly gloomy expression and couldn't help but laugh softly.
"Come on. Go get some rest," she said, giving his hand a gentle squeeze. "I'll be with you tomorrow."
For Harrison, tomorrow could bring something major, and she wanted to be by his side when it did.
Harrison nodded, unable to resist pulling her into a passionate kiss, holding her close until she felt lightheaded. Finally, he let her go and watched as she went back into her room.
He turned and walked into his guest room, the door closing behind him.
The room had been tidied up, and everything he needed was already laid out.
Harrison turned on the light and sat on the bed.
In the quiet of the room, his mind wandered back to what he had seen earlier in the mall-the perfect family scene.
A part of him longed for the happiness they shared.
But then his phone rang, snapping him out of his reverie.
It was his mother, Myra.
When Harrison saw the caller ID, a wave of emotion hit him.
"Mom," he answered, trying to sound normal.
"Harrison," Myra's voice came through, full of concern. "Are you alright?"
She knew he had come to Yewhaina to be with Adeline, and she worried that he might be struggling with the uncertainty. If things didn't work out, he'd be heartbroken.
"I'm fine, Mom," Harrison reassured her. "I'm with the Mendoza family right now."
Myra let out a relieved sigh when she heard that.
"That's good. Now that you've made up with Miss Hensley, just make sure you treat her well. Don't argue with her anymore."
"I know," Harrison replied with a small smile.
He had no intention of arguing with Adeline ever again.
"You don't have to worry about home, Mom. I'm doing fine. Just take care of yourself over there. Don't forget to look after yourself while you're in Yewhaina."
Harrison felt his chest tighten at his mother's words. It was hard to hear her so worried, even though she wasn't showing it.
There was a pause on the other end of the line.
Then Myra's soft voice sounded. "Of course, I miss him. Even after all these years, I still think about him sometimes. Why do you ask?"
