Chapter 334: A Grand Gift for Harrison
Harrison's frustration grew even more.
And at this very moment, everyone kept bringing up Adeline in front of him.
The more they mentioned her, the worse he felt.
But he couldn't snap at Marshall, who was in poor health.
If it had been Ronan, Harrison would've kicked him out already.
"No," Harrison said flatly.
Even though he denied it, Marshall could tell what was really going on.
No one else could make Harrison this worried, except Adeline.
Before he could say anything, a furious voice suddenly came from beside them.
"Harrison, you're finally back. I've been looking for you!"
It was Ronan's voice.
Marshall turned and saw Ronan limping toward them, gripping a cane in his hand, his face full of anger.
His leg hadn't fully healed, so he was walking with a noticeable limp.
Marshall seemed to catch on and took a subtle step back, pretending that he had caught a chill from the wind and starting to cough.
Ronan, however, was oblivious to everything else; his focus was entirely on Harrison.
Ronan walked straight up to Harrison, raising his cane as if he was about to strike him.
Of course, Harrison wasn't about to just stand there and let himself be hit.
Harrison grabbed the cane with a cold sneer and asked, "Are you out of your mind?"
"Am I out of my mind, or are you?" Ronan yelled.
"You already have Miss Hensley, but you're taking other women to hotels. Have you considered her feelings? How much pain do you think you're causing her?"
Harrison's eyes darkened.
He said nothing and only swiped Ronan's cane out of his hands.
Ronan, panting, didn't try to strike again.
Earlier, his anger and impulsiveness had given him the nerve to try hitting Harrison with the cane.
But now that he'd calmed down, he realized just how reckless he had been.
If Harrison had gotten angry and fought back, there was no way he would have stood a chance.
When he saw that the two hadn't come to blows, a hint of disappointment flashed in Marshall's eyes.
He stopped coughing and walked over to mediate.
"Ronan, what are you doing? Why can't you just talk to Harrison like a grown-up?"
"Mind your own business," Ronan snapped.
"What do you know?"
Ronan was in no mood to listen to anyone, so he would have responded like this no matter who spoke to him.
But Marshall's expression shifted.
He thought, "Ronan really doesn't think much of me, does he?"
Then again, why would he? Marshall was just the adopted child, after all.
But the change in Marshall's face was brief.
He quickly regained his composure, smiling as he said, "Whatever your issue with Harrison is, he's still our brother. You shouldn't disrespect him."
Ronan, already irritated, was about to retort when Marshall continued, "And the Christmas is coming up. A bunch of relatives are going to be here. If they see you treating Harrison like this, it'll be embarrassing. And if Lorenzo finds out and gets upset... well, that's a whole different problem."
"Yeah, I get it," Ronan muttered impatiently.
Just as he was about to say something more to Harrison, the latter turned and walked away.
Furious, he shouted after him, "If you treat Miss Hensley like this, I won't let you be with her!"
Harrison didn't even glance back.
"Ronan, Harrison isn't like that," Marshall said, his tone firm. "There's some misunderstanding here, for sure."
"Hmph," Ronan grumbled, turning to leave.
Marshall's lips curled into a faintly cold smile.
Slowly, he made his way back to his quarter and told Frankie what he had just witnessed.
"Looks like Ronan cares more about Adeline than we thought," Frankie said. "He actually dared to go after Harrison for her."
"Yes," Marshall replied. "It's a pity that Harrison didn't rise to the bait. If they had fought, and Lorenzo found out, it would've been disastrous."
Frankie shook his head. "This is nothing. Brothers fight all the time. Even if they did throw a punch, Lorenzo would just get mad for a while and that's it."
"True. What I'm worried about is Adeline won't come back. If she stays away, all the things we've done so far would be in vain.
Without her, Harrison has no weakness, and then..."
"She probably won't," Frankie said. "But just to be sure... Has he been brought in?"
"Yes, he's already been settled in."
Frankie smiled, satisfied. "Good. Pick the right moment and have him show up in front of Harrison. Give him a real gift."
The plane landed in Yewhaina.
After getting off the plane, Adeline got into the car arranged by the Mendoza family.
In the car, she seemed cheerful, chatting away with Alberto about the customs and sights of Yewhaina, planning where to visit once Alberto was fully recovered.
But Isaac and Gracie were still uneasy.
They could tell that Adeline was pretending to be happy.
They had already told the relatives and friends to hold off on coming to the Mendoza family for now.
Originally, they had planned to host a gathering the moment Adeline returned.
But now, Adeline definitely wasn't in the mood to entertain people she had never met.
It'd be better to wait a couple of days.
About an hour later, the car pulled into the Mendoza mansion.
The Mendoza mansion was about the same size as the Thomson mansion, but the style was completely different.
The Thomson mansion had a more traditional vibe, while the Mendoza mansion was modern, designed like a castle.
"When the Mendoza family first immigrated here, they wanted to build a traditional-style house," Isaac explained to Adeline. "But they couldn't find a good traditional designer in Yewhaina, so they had to scrap the idea."
Adeline nodded.
She wasn't very knowledgeable about interior design, but if she had to choose, she preferred a more traditional style. However, she also liked the castle-like design, and since this was her home, everything felt perfect.
"Come in," Gracie said with a smile. "Your room's already been cleaned."
For over twenty years, the Mendoza family had kept a huge princess bedroom for Adeline, cleaned daily by a dedicated staff.
Gracie led Adeline up to the third floor, stopped in front of a door, and gently pushed it open.
The room was designed with a cute, playful theme-right in front was a pink princess bed, surrounded by a multitude of stuffed animals.
There was also a large cabinet filled with toys.
"Every year, we buy a lot of stuffed dolls," Gracie said. "Whenever we see one that's particularly cute, we think that you would love this, so we end up buying it."
Before they knew it, the whole cabinet was filled with stuffed dolls.
