Chapter 378: He Wants More Than That
Milania thought that it was her fault for picking the wrong person-Amber, that useless fool.
And she had been found out by Harrison.
Now, there was no point in trying to make excuses.
"How did you find out?" Milania asked bitterly.
"Collin," Harrison replied coolly. "He told me everything you did. Every single thing."
Milania shuddered involuntarily and thought, "He told everything? So, everything... the things we have done together over the years... Did he spill all of it?"
"Right now, my men are bringing Collin here," Harrison said, his voice devoid of warmth.
Milania quickly weighed her options in her mind.
She suddenly said, "You don't need to bring him here. I admit it all. It was me. I had him arrange the fire at the hotel in Marifort City. The thief who attacked you and Miss Hensley, I sent him. Amber? She was the one I had sent to your side. Everything... it was me."
After confessing everything in one breath, Milania seemed to let out a huge sigh of relief, as if a weight had been lifted off her shoulders.
"Mom.." Ronan's voice was filled with shock and pain. "You did all this... Why? Do you really hate Harrison that much?"
"Ronan, I did this for you," Milania said, her voice trembling with emotion. "We're all part of the Thomson family, but why should Harrison get to be the heir, to control the whole family, while you're stuck as just an assistant director? I'm your mother! I'm looking out for you!"
Ronan was frozen in place.
He thought, "She did all of this for my sake? Does that mean I was partly responsible for everything?"
"Milania," Harrison said coldly, "you don't have to make it sound so noble. You don't need to drag Ronan into this. Ronan never asked you to do any of this. He never said he wanted to be the heir.
You did this all for your own selfish reasons." Lorenzo interjected, "So, you're saying I favor Harrison and don't care about Ronan, is that it? Milania, they're both my grandsons, and I love them both. But the Thomson Group has to be run by someone capable. Since Harrison has taken over, the company has been thriving. Everyone can see that. As for Ronan, I'm sure you won't want to hear this, but he's simply not as capable as Harrison. He just graduated from college, and I had Harrison arrange for him to join the company to gain experience. If he proves himself, I'll never favor Harrison over him."
"Dad, you can't predict the future. Who knows what will happen?" Milania argued, her voice full of defiance.
"I'm not lying to you," Lorenzo replied firmly.
"My will has already been made. It's with my lawyer, and it'll be read after I pass. I'll make sure Ronan isn't left out. As for Harrison, you think he just inherited the family business easily? He's been developing his own enterprises since he was a teenager. Even without the Thomson family, he d still be where he is today. And because of his own business, he's helped take the Thomson Group to new heights."
Lorenzo's words suddenly caught Edward's attention.
He thought, "Lorenzo had already made his will?"
But Edward had only recently returned to the Thomson family.
Lorenzo had thought he was dead all this time.
And he didn't even know he had a daughter.
That meant Edward and Alondra would have no share of Lorenzo's inheritance.
With that thought, Edward felt a rush of unease.
He had thought he'd gained his freedom and no longer cared about the Thomson family's wealth.
But now, back in the fold, he suddenly realized he wanted more.
After all, he was a part of the Thomson family, and so was Alondra.
The Thomson family's fortune should belong to them too.
Despite Lorenzo's words, Milania didn't seem to be listening.
"You're just making excuses for your crimes," Lorenzo said, his voice growing colder. "Have I, or has Harrison, ever wronged you or your side of the family? All these years, and now you try to justify what you've done. It's hopeless."
His anger had been building for years.
After all, Milania was the one who nearly killed his grandson.
She had dared to set fire to the hotel where
Harrison was staying.
If she had succeeded, Harrison wouldn't be standing before him today.
Milania had nothing to say.
Deep down, she knew it too.
If she had really wanted the Thomson Group, she could have competed openly with Harrison and fought fairly for it.
No one would have criticized her.
But she knew that she could never win.m
She didn't have the ability to compete.
Neither did her husband, nor her son.
Lorenzo was right. The Thomson Group was his legacy, built over decades, and it was his life's work.
Of course he would hand it to the most capable person.
Lorenzo couldn't give it to someone mediocre and watch his hard work crumble.
And indeed, he'd never treated Milania and her family unfairly. He had loved Ronan and worked tirelessly to plan for his future.
But Milania couldn't accept that.
So, she had resorted to underhanded tactics to try to remove Harrison.
Now, everything had been exposed. Her last hope was...
She looked at Ashton, her eyes filled with desperation.
Ashton clenched his fists tightly.
He couldn't believe he was still trying to protect her.
Even now, at this point, he still couldn't bring himself to turn against Milania.
With a hoarse voice, he pleaded, "Dad, Harrison... please, for my sake, spare Milania just this once..."
"Just this once?" Edward interrupted, raising an eyebrow. "Hasn't it been more than once?"
Everyone turned to look at him.
He shrugged nonchalantly and said, "I heard everything you guys just said. I don't know the details, but it sounds like Milania's tried to harm Harrison more than once. I'm still Harrison's father, and hearing this makes me angry."
"You..."
Ashton opened his mouth to snap at him, but then thought better of it.
But still, Milania was at fault.
Ashton didn't want to fight with Edward.
So, he kept his frustration to himself.
In reality, Edward's words were an attempt to get on Harrison's good side.
But Harrison didn't react at all.
He merely glanced at him before looking away.
Ashton continued, "Dad, Harrison, I know Milania doesn't deserve to stay in the Thomson family after what she's done. I'll take her away. We'll leave, and she'll never cause trouble here again. Is that acceptable?"
