Chapter 374: Miss You Too
"You, come here."
As soon as Harrison's words left his lips, two bodyguards immediately stepped forward.
"Take her away."
Britney didn't immediately comprehend the situation. It wasn't until the bodyguards were right in front of her, gripping her arms, that she realized Harrison was talking about her.
"Harrison, what do you mean by this?" Britney's face turned pale with shock. "I'm your father's wife. Since he's going back to the Thomson family to see Lorenzo, why can't I go with him?"
Harrison ignored her protest.
The two bodyguards showed no mercy as they dragged Britney away.
"Mom!" Alondra's face turned pale with fear.
Edward tried to comfort her and turned to Harrison, his voice pleading. "Harrison..."
Harrison gave him a look, and Edward swallowed his words before they could escape.
Watching Britney being dragged away, he hesitantly asked, "Where are they taking her?"
"You're so concerned. Aren't you going to rush in and save her?" Harrison asked coldly.
Edward, momentarily stifled, faltered. His gaze flickered, unsure of what to say.
After a long silence, he muttered, "Because I know you won't harm her." Harrison scoffed.
Although he didn't speak, the mocking sound of his laugh was enough to make Edward's face flush with embarrassment.
Harrison didn't care to continue the conversation with Edward.
His mind was preoccupied with how to explain things to Lorenzo.
Just then, Myra stepped up beside him. "I've already told Lorenzo."
Harrison's expression tightened.
"You've told Grandpa? What was his reaction?" he asked quickly.
Myra smiled faintly. "Harrison, you've been so busy with company matters these past years and haven't come back home often, so you don't quite know your grandfather. Although he's older, his strength is far from what you think."
Myra had always treated Lorenzo like her own father, so she knew him better than anyone.
Her words implied that Lorenzo was fine.
Harrison felt a weight lift from his chest.
"Dad already knows?" Edward's heart skipped a beat. "What did he say?"
Myra glanced at him, her voice calm. "He didn't say much on the phone. Just told you both to come home quickly."
Harrison noticed that Myra had referred to it as "you both," not "us."
"Mom..." Harrison hesitated.
"The Thomson family probably still has some relatives who stayed for the New Year," Myra said, a hint of finality in her voice. "I won't go back for now. I'll call someone to pack my things and have them sent to me."
Harrison didn't press further.
Though Myra had come to terms with Edward's situation, she didn't want to be pitied or mocked.
So, she decided not to go back.
Myra left alone.
Harrison took Edward and Alondra back to the Thomson family.
In the car, Alondra nervously clutched Edward's shirt. "Dad, where are we going? What about Mom? Why isn't she coming with us?"
"Alondra, don't worry. We're going to Grandpa's house," Edward reassured her.
"Grandpa will love you. As for your mom... once we see Grandpa, you'll see her."
Britney really shouldn't have said anything.
Now she had angered Harrison, and she wouldn't even get to see Lorenzo, let alone plead for a place in the Thomson family.
Edward kept talking to Alondra, but his eyes kept flickering to Harrison.
Unfortunately, Harrison paid her no attention.
Can you do better?
He was too busy texting Adeline.
Adeline messaged, "I miss you."
Harrison replied, "I miss you too."
Adeline sent a cute little emoji with a kiss.
The adorable gesture made Harrison's heart race with longing.
He desperately wanted to kiss Adeline.
Unfortunately, they were miles apart, and there was no way to kiss her right now.
It had only been one day since they separated, and he already missed her so much.
He remembered a time when he saw a friend in love.
One evening, they were in a different city for business, and during dinner, his friend nearly cried because he missed his girlfriend.
Back then, Harrison thought it was silly. How could someone miss someone so much after just a few days?
But now, as he was in love, he finally understood that feeling.
He missed Adeline so much that it made him want to cry.
But he held it back.
After all, this wasn't the time for tears.
Soon, the car pulled up in front of the Thomson villa.
Edward carried Alondra out of the car, looking at the familiar yet unfamiliar mansion before him, lost in thought.
It had been over a decade.
He hadn't set foot here in over ten years.
He still remembered how, back then, he felt this place was a prison, a cage that held him down, He couldn't wait to escape.
Even though he had a wife and child now, responsibilities he should have shouldered, he still abandoned them...
He had left his father-who had always been
there for him-behind too.
Thinking about Lorenzo, Edward couldn't shake the dread in his heart.
The few security guards at the gate recognized Harrison and greeted him, but they didn't know Edward, their gazes full of curiosity and doubt.
Edward couldn't help but feel awkward.
Back when he still lived here, the guards had been polite and addressed him as "Mr. Edward."
Now, no one called him that anymore.
Of course, he was over forty now.
And everyone thought that "Mr. Edward" had already passed away.
"Dad, this place is huge," Alondra gasped, eyes wide. "Is this Grandpa's house?"
"Yes," Edward answered with difficulty. "It's also the place where I used to live."
"Wow... Then why didn't you live here anymore? And why have you never brought me here?"
Alondra's innocent question caught Edward off guard.
"Let's go inside," Harrison said, leading the way.
Edward placed Alondra down, took her hand, and followed behind.
Alondra, still young, couldn't help but look around in awe, occasionally gasping in amazement.
But once they entered the living room, she fell silent.
The room was filled with people-some standing, some sitting, all with various expressions.
As soon as they entered, everyone turned their heads to look at them.
Lorenzo sat at the center on the sofa.
Even though he had already been informed by Myra, seeing his eldest son-whom he thought had been dead for over a decade-standing before him was a shock like no other.
After the shock, joy and pain mingled in his heart.
Myra had already told him that Edward had
staged his death.
At that moment, Lorenzo’s emotions were much like Harrison’s when he first learned the truth.
