Chapter 300: Busy With Another Woman
Benjamin's expression and tone were unsettling, nearly creeping Adeline out.
She felt goosebumps all over.
More than that, she had a headache.
So, after everything she'd said, Benjamin still hadn't taken in a single word.
"I'm not the woman you loved, and I don t love you. Even if you insist on seeing me as Miss Sherman's stand-in, I'll never be with you," Adeline said, her expression cold.
"Then who do you love?" Benjamin asked suddenly.
Adeline was speechless.
"Harrison?"
"I don't need to disclose my private life to you," Adeline said.
It wasn't a secret that she liked Harrison, but the last person she wanted to admit it to was Benjamin.
"You don't have to tell me. I already know,"
Benjamin said with a sneer. "But are you sure he deserves your affection?"
"That's none of your business."
"You might think it's not, but your life is something I can't ignore," Benjamin said.
"Harrison may look upright, but no one knows what he's doing behind your back. Otherwise, why isn't he here by your side right now?"
Adeline couldn't be bothered to respond.
Her relationship with Harrison was none of his concern, especially not someone like Benjamin.
"What if he's doing something to betray you right now?"
"What's that supposed to mean?" Adeline asked.
"I hate to say it, but Harrison is an attractive man," Benjamin said. "With his family background and charisma, there's no shortage of women wanting to get close to him. Are you sure he can resist every temptation?"
Adeline laughed.
"I've been around him for over five years. Do you think I wouldn't know by now?"
Before realizing that Harrison had feelings for her, Adeline honestly thought he had no interest in romance.
As for that one night they had together, it was because Kaylie had drugged him.
In those five years, she'd seen countless women get thrown out for attempting to seduce Harrison.
Benjamin thought he could easily sway her.
"I know you don't believe me," Benjamin said.
"But men can change..."
"Yes." Adeline nodded. "Take you, for instance. You once adored Miss Sherman, and now you're trying to replace her with someone else."
Benjamin was taken aback.
Adeline wasn't holding back at all.
With anyone else, he'd have been furious by now.
But when he looked at her face, Benjamin couldn't bring himself to be angry
He simply smiled and continued, "Harrison could change, too. Just because he wasn't interested in women before doesn't mean he'll always be like that. If he ends up with someone else, you'll be heartbroken."
Adeline frowned slightly and thought, "Why did Benjamin sound so certain? It seems he knew for a fact that Harrison would betray me."
Benjamin wasn't foolish. He wouldn't assume he could sow discord between her and Harrison easily.
So, Adeline wondered why he was saying this now.
Thinking of Harrison, who was probably at Castlewill Manor, Adeline looked sullen.
"What are you planning?" Adeline asked.
Benjamin smiled: "What could I plan? He's Harrison."
Adeline immediately took out her phone, intending to call Harrison.
But Benjamin grabbed her wrist sharply.
"Why bother? He might not answer right now."
"Let go!" Adeline shouted angrily.
Georgia heard her and immediately rushed over, engaging Benjamin.
Benjamin quickly dodged, shrugged, and said, "Fine, make your call. I won't stop you."
Adeline shot him a glare and started dialing
Harrison's number.
Meanwhile, Georgia stood between them, eyeing Benjamin warily in case he tried anything else.
But Benjamin made no further moves.
He simply watched her call Harrison with a smug, leisurely expression.
Adeline waited a long time, but there was no answer.
She couldn't help but feel a bit anxious.
She tried calling again, but still, there was no response.
Fighting the urge to strangle Benjamin, she asked coldly, "What did you do to him?"
"What could I have done?" Benjamin replied.
"Why are you always so quick to suspect me? Why don't you suspect him? Maybe he's busy being affectionate with another woman, and that's why he's not answering your calls."
Adeline gently patted Georgia on the shoulder, signaling her to step aside.
Georgia hesitated but moved aside slightly.
Adeline stepped forward until she was right in front of Benjamin.
Then she raised her hand and slapped him hard across the face.
The sound echoed, startling even Georgia.
Adeline had hit Benjamin so hard that her own hand hurt.
But Benjamin just chuckled.
"You can hit me all you like, as long as you realize who truly cares for you."
Adeline's face was livid with anger.
She wouldn't be foolish enough to believe him.
She was just worried about what he might have done to Harrison.
She knew Harrison was capable, but concern clouded her mind.
Sometimes, it was the subtle attacks that were hardest to defend against, like that time when Kaylie drugged Harrison.
"Did Rowen go with him to Castlewill Manor?"
Adeline asked Georgia.
"No, Rowen is handling other matters," Georgia replied.
"Who went with him, then?"
Georgia listed off a few names, one of which Adeline recognized.
She opened her contacts to find that person's number.
Watching Adeline worry over Harrison, Benjamin felt jealous.
He thought, "Does she care about Harrison that much? Did she trust Harrison that implicitly? Is she really convinced that Harrison is in trouble and not betraying her? But by now, Eleanor should have succeeded."
Smirking, Benjamin waited smugly.
Just then, Adeline's phone rang.
Seeing who was calling, her eyes brightened, and she quickly picked up.
"Harrison? You scared me. Why didn't you answer earlier?"
The moment Benjamin heard her say Harrison's name, his gaze darkened.
Benjamin thought, "That incompetent Eleanor. I have prepared everything for her, yet she still failed!"
A short time earlier, at Castlewill Manor, someone had knocked on Eleanor's door.
