Chapter 305: Won't Give Up
Benjamin said, "We were so close to winning those projects. How could they suddenly be taken from us?"
On the other end of the call, his father said something again.
Benjamin clenched his fists tightly. "I understand."
After he hung up, Benjamin's expression was sullen.
"Harrison, huh? He really has quite the reach-stretching all the way into Mugroaton," Benjamin murmured.
Although the Tillman family was powerful, they were not unrivaled in Mugroaton.
They still had a few competitors.
And yet, Harrison had not only helped the Thomson family's branch in Mugroaton snatch their projects but also supported their competitors, taking all the key projects Benjamin had set his eyes on.
In the time he had been away from Mugroaton, the Tillman family had suffered significant losses.
Harrison was ruthless.
If he thought about it, Harrison had begun acting the very day after Benjamin had schemed to meet Adeline.
He was avenging Adeline.
Benjamin clenched his fists in anger.
If he had been in Mugroaton, he might have been able to salvage the situation.
But he hadn't been there.
It couldn't be helped.
When he left Mugroaton, he had only planned to bring Lance back within a few days.
He hadn't expected to run into Adeline.
That was why he had stayed here and delayed his return.
But now, it seemed that if he didn't go back soon, things could spiral further out of control.
Though the Tillman family would not
collapse over this, he couldn't allow them to keep losing ground.
What was more, judging by his father's tone on the phone, he was clearly displeased.
Benjamin might be the acknowledged successor to the Tillman family, but he had yet to officially take over as head.
At a time like this, Benjamin couldn't afford to further anger his father.
Lance was an idiot and posed no real threat, but there were other illegitimate sons his father had out there.
There was no way he would give up the position of family head to anyone else.
Benjamin's thoughts raced wildly.
After a while, he took a deep breath and said, "Listen up."
His men immediately straightened, ears perked up.
"Your failure this time was significant, and I really don't want to let you off the hook," Benjamin said coldly. "But now, I'll give you a chance to redeem yourselves."
The men felt their emotions swing like a rollercoaster.
"I'll be returning to Mugroaton soon due to some matters," Benjamin continued. "You won't be coming with me. Stay here and keep a close eye on Harrison and Miss Hensley. Report to me immediately if anything happens."
At first, they were relieved to hear about a chance to make up for their mistakes.
But when they heard Benjamin's next words, their hearts sank again.
First, they wouldn't be returning to Mugroaton, meaning no reunions with their families or friends.
Second, they would be tailing Harrison. After everything that had happened, they had seen firsthand how terrifying Harrison was.
No one knew better than them how impossible it was to keep an eye on Harrison.
But now, they had no choice.
If they refused to do as Benjamin said, they might very well lose their lives.
"Do you understand me?" Benjamin asked.
"Yes, Mr. Tillman."
Benjamin's expression softened slightly, but his mood darkened again when he realized he might not see Adeline for a long time.
"Wait for me, Whitney. I will come back for you. I will never give up. You'll be mine, sooner or later..."
That evening, Harrison was having dinner with Castlewill Manor's executives.
The table was lively with clinking glasses and chatter, but Harrison didn't seem interested. His head was lowered as he looked at his phone.
Almost instinctively, he opened his chat with Adeline.
"Have you had dinner yet?"
Adeline received the message while eating with Isaac and Gracie.
She snapped a photo of her meal and replied, "About to eat. What about you?"
Since she had sent a picture, Harrison naturally had to respond with one of his own.
Without hesitation, Harrison picked up his phone, took a photo of the dishes on the table, and sent it to Adeline.
His actions were smooth and natural, but they startled everyone at the table.
The people present thought, "Mr. Thomson was taking a photo? Why would Mr. Thomson take a photo?
After their initial surprise, the executives began to feel uneasy.
They thought again, "Is Mr. Thomson dissatisfied with tonight's arrangements and taking photos as evidence to reprimand us later?"
They were on edge, wanting to ask him but not daring to.
Luckily, among the group, there was an observant woman.
She noticed that after taking the photo, Harrison kept looking at his phone, occasionally typing, a faint smile tugging at the corners of his mouth.
After thinking for a moment, she whispered, "It looks like Mr. Thomson is in love."
The others paused, suddenly understanding.
Looking at Harrison now, he didn't seem upset at all. In fact, his expression seemed soft and even a little sweet.
They refrained from gossiping further about
Harrison. As long as he wasn't angry at them, they didn't care.
Harrison didn't chat with Adeline for long before telling her to focus on her meal.
After dinner ended, he walked alone through Castlewill Manor.
The mountain wind at night was cold, but Harrison was always sturdy and dressed in a
warm coat, so he barely noticed.
There weren't many people around at this hour.
Harrison walked slowly, eventually spotting a bench and sitting down.
At that moment, he found himself thinking of Adeline. "She must have finished dinner by now. What is she doing? She is probably chatting with Isaac and Gracie. After being separated for over twenty years, they must have endless things to say."
And yet, he had only been apart from Adeline for two days, and he already had so much he wanted to tell her.
But all those words boiled down to: I miss you.
Just then, he heard soft footsteps nearby.
He assumed it was someone passing by and paid no attention until the footsteps came closer and stopped beside him.
"Mr. Thomson?"
The voice sounded familiar.
Harrison turned his head.
It was Lauren.
"It really is you," Lauren said in surprise. "I thought I recognized you from a distance. Mr.Thomson, it's been so long since we last met."
In truth, it hadn't been that long.
But Harrison hadn't visited Sam's club recently.
Naturally, Lauren hadn't seen him either.
She had heard that the Thomson Group's Castlewill Manor had begun its soft opening today.
So she invited a few friends to come here.
As the star attraction at Sam's club, she could easily take a few days off for herself and her friends.
She thought Harrison might stay at Castlewill Manor during its opening days.
That way, she could "coincidentally" run into him.
And now, it seemed her wish had come true.
