Chapter 289:Carft Deal with Emotional Problems
"She went to visit Miss Monroe's parents,"
Harrison replied.
At the mention of Joyce, Sam's expression shifted slightly.
"Why'd she go visit Miss Monroe's parents all of a sudden?" Sam couldn't help but ask.
"Did something happen to Miss Monroe?"
At this, Harrison looked up at him and asked,
"Are you that concerned?"
Sam said, "Well, we do know each other. I'd say we're friends, at least, and if something did happen, of course l'd be concerned. When I got hurt, she even came by to visit me in the hospital."
"She left," Harrison said.
Sam froze, "Left? What do you mean?"
"Moved to another city."
"Where did she go?"
"No one knows," Harrison replied. "Except her parents and Miss Hensley."
And Adeline wasn't about to reveal Joyce's location to Harrison, not because she didn't trust him, but because it was Joyce's secret.
Even though he and Adeline were close, she wouldn't just give away Joyce's whereabouts.
Hearing this, Sam seemed to lose his spirit.
He stopped making his usual jokes, staring blankly into space.
After a while, he finally asked, "Did Miss Monroe leave because of Callan?"
"Partly," Harrison said, "but it was also because she wanted to. Miss Hensley mentioned she's always wanted to see more of the world."
Sam clenched his fists tightly.
"Callan..." The name practically ground out between his teeth.
Sam could forgive Callan for arranging for someone to hurt him.
But the fact that Callan had driven Joyce away had made Sam furious.
"If you miss Miss Monroe, I can let Miss Hensley know," Harrison offered. "When Miss Monroe reaches out to her, she could pass on a message for you."
"Harrison, stop joking around," Sam muttered, turning away. "Miss Monroe's departure has nothing to do with me. I just hope she's safe."
Harrison didn't reply for a while.
When Sam turned back, he found Harrison looking at him with a faintly amused smile.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" Sam shivered, "It's kind of creepy."
"I just find it funny. You were full of advice when it came to my situation, but when it's your own, you're actually worse than I was."
"What nonsense are you spouting?" Sam's gaze shifted evasively. "I'm practically a pro in this area. Like I'd be worse than you! And you haven't even confessed to Miss Hensley yet, have you?"
"Not for long," Harrison said coolly.
"Oh, 'not for long'?" Sam teased, a mocking tone creeping in. "Showing off?"
Harrison didn't deny it.
"If you're so jealous, you can go ahead and try to one-up me."
"Yeah, sure. Who can compete with you? You and Miss Hensley are practically made for each other, like Romeo and Juliet."
"Alright, enough," Harrison said, wanting to clamp Sam's mouth shut.
Harrison thought, "Romeo and Juliet? Aren't they doomed to be apart?"
Just the thought of parting with Adeline made him feel utterly miserable.
"Let me know when you confess. I'll be there, cheering you on as the first in line."
"I think I'll pass. You'd just cause trouble."
"Oh, come on. We've known each other long enough. Do I seem like that kind of guy?"
Harrison gave him a dry look, which made Sam feel a bit guilty.
"Alright, maybe I do seem like that kind of guy," Sam thought.
Harrison checked the time, stood up, and said, "I'm heading out. Rest well."
"Leaving so soon? Stay a bit longer," Sam said.
"I'm picking her up."
Hearing this, Sam understood.
Watching Harrison leave, he muttered under his breath, "Always ditching me for a girl."
After Harrison left, Sam was alone in the ward.
He lay on the bed, staring at the ceiling, his brows furrowing.
He thought, "Where could Joyce have gone, all on her own? And if that lunatic Callan found out she was gone, he'd definitely go to any lengths to find her. No, I couldn't let that creep get anywhere near her. She probably just wants some peace in a new place. If that was the case, I'd do everything he could to ensure Callan never disturbs her..."
……
Adeline had just finished her visit with Joyce's parents.
They knew by now that Joyce had left for another city.
Naturally, they weren't thrilled about it.
But when Joyce had told them about it, they could tell something was wrong.
Since Joyce wasn't willing to tell them more, they hadn't pressed her.
They just held back their worries, reminded her to take care of herself, and quietly transferred some extra money to her.
As parents, they felt guilty for not being able to solve the problems their daughter was facing.
All they could do was support Joyce however they could.
Adeline stayed to comfort them for a while.
They felt a little more at ease when they saw Adeline.
After leaving Joyce's parents' house, Adeline saw a message from Harrison, saying he was almost
So, she waited by the road at the entrance of their neighborhood.
Just then, a car suddenly pulled up in front of her.
Adeline felt something was off and instinctively took a few steps back.
It wasn't a car she recognized. It certainly wasn't Harrison.
The door opened.
The first person to step out was a well-dressed, elegantly aged woman.
From her demeanor and style, it was clear she was a lady from a wealthy family.
She looked straight at Adeline, her eyes red and filled with a mix of emotion and anticipation.
Adeline stared back, feeling that this woman looked somewhat familiar.
Then it came to her.
"Isn't this Alberto's mother?" Adeline thought.
A middle-aged man soon stepped out of the car as well.
He had a similar expression to Gracie's, though more restrained.
Adeline recognized him too. It was Isaac, Alberto's father.
Adeline thought, "Why have they suddenly come here? And it seems they are here for me."
"You..." Gracie took a step forward, reaching out as if to take Adeline's hand.
Isaac gently pulled her back, whispering, "Stay calm. Don't startle her."
Gracie nodded, took a deep breath, and then smiled. "You're Miss Hensley, aren't you?"
