Chapter 327: Let’s Break Up
Harrison felt both aggrieved and angry.
He had hit Russell because she was dragged into the Hunter family's mess, and he was heartbroken for her.
Harrison thought, "But why was she upset with him over this? Did she care about Russell that much?"
He knew she and Russell shared similar experiences, which allowed her to empathize with him.
He understood that.
But he didn't know how much compassion she had to show Russell for it to be enough.
And now, she was angry with him because of Russell. Harrison thought, "Just how important was Russell to her?"
Harrison felt an ache spreading through his chest. His fists clenched tightly. When he heard Adeline ask Russell if he needed any medicine, he couldn't hold it in any longer.
He turned and walked away.
Adeline noticed Harrison leaving and
instinctively reached out to grab his arm, but her hand grasped nothing but air.
Harrison walked away without looking back.
Adeline watched his retreating figure, feeling a mix of frustration and sadness.
She was upset at how impulsive he had been.
She knew he had hit Russell for her, but today's events hadn't been what Russell wanted either. It was of no use hitting him.
What worried Adeline most was that if this caused further animosity between Harrison and Russell, it would only add to Harrison's troubles.
To her, she and Harrison were a team; his actions reflected on her.
Truthfully, if she hadn't gone to meet Jasmine for dinner, Jasmine wouldn't have been able to set up this trap against Russell.
So it was hard to say who was truly to blame.
Adeline didn't want to argue over who was right or wrong. The real culprit was Jasmine,
who orchestrated everything.
But Harrison's punch was akin to her blaming Russell as well.
But Adeline had no right to blame Harrison.
Feeling frustrated, she glared at Harrison in the heat of the moment.
But after doing so, she regretted it.
He was impulsive, and so was she. She could have calmly talked it out with him.
She thought about getting some medicine for Russell as a gesture to ease the tension between him and Harrison.
She hadn't expected Harrison to walk away so abruptly.
Watching his retreating figure only made her feel worse.
"I'm fine," Russell said gently. "I'll have someone get me some medicine later. You should head home."
"I'm sorry. He didn't mean it," Adeline
said.
Russell lowered his eyes. "I know. You don't need to explain."
The more she tried to explain, the more it showed that her heart was with Harrison.
Even though Russell had already accepted that truth, it still weighed heavily on him at moments like this.
But deep down, Russell knew he wasn't worthy of being with Adeline.
His own family was a mess, and he couldn't drag her into it.
"If you need anything, let me know," Adeline said.
Then she hurried off.
Russell knew she was going after Harrison.
And that was fine.
Adeline wanted to catch up to Harrison and explain everything.
But his long legs carried him quickly.
By the time she spotted him, he was already in his car.
The car pulled away moments later.
Watching the car disappear into the distance, Adeline felt both upset and helpless.
Still, she understood that he must be feeling hurt too.
She took out her phone and called Harrison.
To her dismay, he declined the call.
Adeline rubbed her temples in frustration.
With Christmas around the corner, this was the last thing she wanted to deal with.
What worried her more was that she was leaving with the Mendoza family for Yewhaina the day after tomorrow.
Was Harrison seriously planning to give her the cold shoulder during this critical time?
That day, Sam was discharged from the hospital.
Harrison had personally picked him up and dropped him off at the Juarez family estate,
which Sam found touching.
But before Sam could express his gratitude, Harrison took a call and left abruptly.
Sam overheard bits of the call and thought it sounded like it had to do with Adeline.
Well, no matter how good a friend he was, Sam knew he couldn't compete with Adeline.
After drinking the soup his mother had made for him, Sam lay in bed, staring at the ceiling in a daze.
For some reason, he thought of Joyce.
"Where was she now? How was she doing?"
Sam hadn't looked for her.
If she had left quietly, it must mean she didn't want to be found.
Instead, he had discreetly obstructed Callan's efforts to track her down.
Callan had noticed, but there wasn't much he could do.
Without Jamarion's help, Callan was stuck.
Just then, Sam's phone buzzed.
It was a message from his current girlfriend.
"Honey, you're discharged today, right? Can I come visit you at home?"
Sam sighed softly.
He suddenly found it all a bit dull.
His reply was brief. "Let's break up."
"Huh? Why? Did I do something wrong?" she replied.
Sam simply transferred some money to her.
After that, the woman didn't message him again.
It wasn't a serious relationship for either of them.
With the breakup fee settled, she naturally had no reason to linger.
The room fell silent again. Staring at the ceiling, Sam was about to return to his thoughts when the door opened.
Sam sighed. "Can't I get a moment's peace to reflect on life?"
He looked up to see Harrison and was momentarily stunned.
"What are you doing back? Weren't you supposed to be with Adeline? Why are you here, looking so off?"
Harrison didn't say a word. He walked to the sofa and sat down.
Then he started to zone out, as if lost in thought.
Sam thought, "He interrupts my brooding, only to start brooding himself?"
"Harrison, snap out of it. What's wrong? Did you fight with Miss Hensley?" Sam asked.
Harrison's expression darkened immediately.
"No," he replied curtly.
Sam rolled his eyes.
Harrison's sulking face said otherwise. No one but Adeline could reduce him to this state.
"Come on, Harrison," Sam tried to reason with him. "As a man, you should let things go sometimes. I've told you before. If you like someone, treat them well."
"You don't understand," Harrison said.
"What?" Sam blinked.
Now he was being dismissed with "You don't understand" in matters of the heart.
Having feelings for someone really made people insufferable.
Harrison seemed agitated. Rubbing his temples, he muttered, "Do you think she really likes me?"
"How would I know?" Sam shot back. "I'm not Miss Hensley."
"She probably does like me," Harrison murmured to himself.
Sam wanted to punch him.
He was now convinced Harrison had come over just to rub his love life in his face.
