Chapter 315: Adeline Appears on the Scene

One thing after another had happened recently, and Eleanor barely got any sleep that night.

However, thinking about how she was about to star in Theo's new movie, she felt somewhat better.

After all, she was the leading actress. This was a great opportunity, as Theo's films often brought awards not just to the leads but even to supporting actors.

Having lost her endorsement deal with the Thomson Group, Eleanor knew she had to seize this chance with Theo's movie.

That morning, she saw a message from Theo reminding her to attend the promotional event the next day.

She was about to reply with a simple "Got it," but for some reason, unease crept into her heart.

After everything that had happened recently, perhaps it was better to keep a low profile.

Maybe she should skip the event and just wait for filming to start.

With that thought, Eleanor sent Theo a message.

"I'm so sorry, Theo. I haven't been feeling well the past couple of days and might not be able to attend the promotional event tomorrow. Don't worry, though. I'll recover quickly and won't delay the start of filming."

Eleanor thought it wasn't a big deal.

But Theo called her immediately.

She had no choice but to answer the call in a weak voice.

"Hello? Theo."

"Eleanor, how can you skip the promotional event?" Theo's voice was less than pleased.

"You're the lead actress. If you don't show up, what's the point of promoting the film?"

Eleanor rolled her eyes inwardly. "It's just a promotional event. Does it really matter if I don't attend?"

Of course, she couldn't say that to Theo.

So, she softened her tone and said, "Theo, I'm really not feeling well."

"You were fine when we had dinner a few days ago. How are you suddenly unwell? Eleanor, this movie is a big deal. You need to be there. If not, I might have to reconsider whether you're right for this role."

Eleanor's heart skipped a beat.

She couldn't afford to lose this leading role.

Quickly, she said, "Theo, don't be upset. Mi be there tomorrow, no matter how I feel. I'll push through."

"That's the spirit. You can't star in my films without a bit of grit. Be there on time tomorrow. I'll be waiting for you."

With that, Theo hung up.

Eleanor felt irritated.

But after thinking it through, she reasoned that Theo's demand wasn't unreasonable. 

Known for his pursuit of perfection, Theo always aimed for excellence, whether in his films or promotional events.

And besides, Halle was already locked up.

If Eleanor simply made a quick appearance at the event, nothing major would happen.

The next day, Eleanor showed up at the event venue with flawless makeup and a polished look.

From her spot in the waiting room, she peeked through the window and saw a crowd of reporters outside.

There were also plenty of her fans holding posters and signs with her name, chanting her name loudly.

She felt a swell of pride.

No matter what, she still had loyal fans.

To Eleanor, these devoted supporters were nothing more than tools to serve her ambitions.

For now, her fans remained unaware of her falling out with the Thomson Group.

But in a few days, the company would likely announce its new endorser.

When that happened, Eleanor planned to play the victim online. She'd stir public sympathy and Din the blame on Harrison and Adeline. turning Harrison into a cheating scumbag and Adeline into the homewrecker.

Smirking at the thought, Eleanor mused to herself, "Just wait, Harrison and Adeline. 

This isn't over. I'll destroy you both."

A staff member soon arrived to inform her that the event was about to start and asked her to get ready.

Eleanor checked her reflection in the mirror one last time. Satisfied with her appearance, she headed to the backstage area.

Theo was already on stage, giving a speech.

Eleanor scanned the other actors in the cast, standing together backstage.

Theo had sent her the cast list before, and none of them were bigger stars than she was.

Standing among them now, her confidence soared.

"Now, let's welcome the star of the film-Miss Fraser!" the host announced.

The audience erupted in deafening cheers.

With a dazzling smile, Eleanor stepped onto the stage.

"Hello, guys," she greeted, waving at the crowd.

"Thank you so much for coming out today to support our new movie."

"Eleanor! Eleanor!"

"Eleanor, we love you!"

Flashbulbs went off in a frenzy, feeding Eleanor's vanity to the fullest.

But then, she spotted someone in the audience.

It was Adeline.

Eleanor's smile froze.

She'd recognize Adeline anywhere.

After all, Adeline's striking beauty made her stand out in any crowd.

Eleanor thought, "But why was Adeline here?"

Though the full cast list hadn't been officially announced, enough teasers had been leaked to attract her fans.

Adeline surely knew this was Eleanor's movie.

Eleanor wasn't naive enough to think Adeline was here to support her.

Her mind raced, completely distracted by Adeline's presence. She didn't even notice the host directing a question her way.

"Miss Fraser, could you tell us what kind of character your lead role portrays?" the host repeated.

Eleanor remained silent, lost in thought.

To the audience, it looked like she was zoning out.

Even her fans started sensing something was off.

The host awkwardly laughed, trying to lighten the moment. "It seems Miss Fraser is a bit nervous with so many fans here... Miss Fraser? Miss Fraser?"

The host repeated her name several times before Eleanor snapped back to reality.

"Huh? I..."

The host quickly repeated the question.

Eleanor had rehearsed her answers ahead of time.

But staring at Adeline, her mind went blank. She couldn't form a single coherent response.

To make matters worse, Adeline's calm, faint smile unnerved her.

Eleanor couldn't decipher the meaning behind that smile.

It was ironic, really. She'd done so many underhanded things that a simple smile from Adeline was enough to shatter her composure.

The host, noticing Eleanor's struggle, quickly moved on. "Well, I'm sure everyone is curious about the movie's plot. We've prepared a video with a brief introduction-no spoilers, of course. Let's take a look at the big screen!"
