Chapter 307: I Have Something to Tell You
They embraced for long before Adeline finally said she was tired, and only then did Harrison let her go.
"It's cold out here. Let's go inside," Harrison said.
"Okay."
Back in Harrison's room, he took off his coat and poured Adeline a cup of hot water.
"Here, drink some. It'll warm you up."
"Thanks. You should have some too."
They each held a cup of hot water, sitting side by side on the sofa.
"What brought you here so suddenly?"
"I was worried about you," Adeline said.
Although Harrison had assured her that he was fine that morning, Benjamin's presence still made her uneasy. After telling Isaac and Gracie in the afternoon, she took a car and came over.
"Silly," Harrison said helplessly. "I'm really fine."
"So, what happened this morning?" Adeline asked. "You haven't told me the details."
"Benjamin and Eleanor tried to set me up,"
Harrison explained. "But Benjamin's men got caught by mine."
Adeline sighed. "No matter what I said to Benjamin, he just won't listen."
"But he won't bother you for a while," Harrison said. "I got word tonight that he's already on a flight back to Mugroaton."
"Really? That's great news." Adeline sighed in relief.
She truly didn't want to see Benjamin again.
"As for Eleanor, I told her to go to the Thomson Group tomorrow to terminate her contract," Harrison added. "You're ready on your end, right?"
"Yes." Adeline nodded.
People must pay for the things they've done.
Eleanor would soon learn that lesson.
After they finished talking, the room suddenly fell silent.
An intimate atmosphere lingered in the air.
Adeline sipped her hot water, her heart beating wildly.
She had come only to make sure Harrison was fine. She hadn't planned for anything else.
But now that she was here, sitting beside him...
The night was quiet, and the two of them were alone in the room.
And they were a pair of adults who liked each other.
Her thoughts began to wander.
She imagined Harrison must be feeling the same.
She could clearly hear his breathing grow heavier.
Unbidden, memories of that night surfaced in her mind.
Adeline lowered her gaze, staring at the cup that now held just a small amount of water.
Perhaps it was the warm heating in the room, but Harrison felt unusually hot.
He suddenly had the strong urge to take a cold shower.
Struggling to suppress his emotions, he set down his cup, stood up, and said, "It's getting late. You should rest. I'll go now."
"Where are you going?" Adeline asked.
"You can sleep here tonight. I'll go get another room."
Harrison grabbed his coat, preparing to leave.
But Adeline suddenly grabbed his wrist.
"Don't go yet," she said.
Harrison's breath hitched.
Maybe she didn't realize that if he stayed any longer, he might really lose control.
"You need to rest," Harrison said, his voice strained.
"Wait," Adeline said, her tone serious. "I have something to tell you."
The seriousness in her voice made Harrison pause.
Worried something was wrong, he pushed aside all distracting thoughts and sat back down beside her.
"What is it?"
As he asked, he noticed Adeline's face turn red.
Harrison frowned slightly, confused.
Adeline was in turmoil.
She knew she had to tell him that the woman that night was her.
But saying it out loud embarrassed her.
That night had been her first-and only - experience.
No matter how calm she was, it was still embarrassing to talk about such a thing.
Seeing her hesitation, Harrison softened his tone.
"It's fine. Just tell me."
Adeline took a deep breath.
One way or another, he needed to know.
"Actually, that night, you..."
Before she could finish, her phone suddenly rang.
The sudden ringtone startled Adeline, and the words stuck in her throat.
"Answer it first," Harrison said.
Adeline took out her phone and glanced at the caller ID. It was Gracie.
Gracie knew Adeline had come to see Harrison.
Given the late hour, Gracie should have been asleep by now.
Adeline thought, "Why is she calling? Did something happen?"
Adeline's expression turned serious as she quickly answered the call.
Before she could say anything, Gracie's excited voice came through the line.
"Adeline, he's awake! Alberto's awake!"
"Really?" Adeline asked, overjoyed.
They had been hoping and praying for Alberto to wake up for days.
And now, he finally had.
"Yes, he's really awake. The doctor is examining him right now," Gracie said.
"Okay, I'll come right back," Adeline said.
Even though it was already late, Adeline couldn't wait to see Alberto.
After all, he was her brother.
When Alberto had the car accident, Adeline didn't even know he was her real brother, yet she had been devastated.
After hanging up, Adeline instinctively grabbed Harrison's hand and said excitedly, "Alberto's awake! I need to go see him."
"Alright, I'll take you back," Harrison said, sharing her happiness.
"No need. I brought a driver."
"Even so, I'll go with you. Alberto waking up is a big deal. I should be there with you."
Adeline thought for a moment and nodded.
The two of them quickly left Castlewill Manor together.
As their car disappeared into the night, Eleanor watched silently from a corner.
She hadn't returned to her room all night, wandering the manor like the walking dead.
She had seen Harrison sitting alone on the bench but hadn't dared approach him.
She had watched as Lauren spoke to him and then left.
She had seen Harrison take a call and then turn to find Adeline.
She had watched as Harrison ran to Adeline and pulled her into a tight embrace.
She had seen them return to his room, following behind them at a distance.
They were so focused on each other that they never noticed Eleanor.
Eleanor stood hidden in a hallway corner, staring: at the door to Harrison's room.
She couldn't help but wonder what they were doing inside.
She was unwilling to accept this. She had met Harrison first.
And yet, she had neither won his affection nor kept her opportunity with the Thomson Group.
If she had just stayed in Mugroaton, Lance would have continued supporting her, and she wouldn't have ended up like this.
