Chapter 290: Take a DNA Test
Adeline nodded and greeted them. "Mr.
Mendoza, Mrs. Mendoza."
For some reason, she felt a bit unsettled at that moment.
"You know who we are?" Gracie asked, her voice trembling with emotion.
Adeline nodded again. "I met both of you when I went to see Alberto at the hospital."
"You went to see Alberto?" Gracie's excitement grew. "You know him? You've met before? Have you talked?"
Adeline paused and then said, "Alberto has wanted to meet me once, but I declined. Later, when I was in some trouble, he helped me."
At Adeline's words, Gracie couldn't help but shed tears.
"I knew it. Even after all these years, he still..."
Seeing her cry made Adeline feel anxious.
"Don't cry. You're scaring her," Isaac gently reassured Gracie, wrapping an arm around her shoulder. "Let's get to the point."
"Mrs. Mendoza, are you alright?" Adeline asked, concerned.
Gracie could hardly speak, overcome with emotion.
Isaac addressed Adeline gently, "Miss Hensley, it may be sudden for us to appear like this and say what we're about to say, but we simply couldn't wait any longer. You may not know, but over twenty years ago, we had to give up our daughter due to an unexpected crisis."
At these words, Adeline's heart began to pound.
Mateo had once told her that her biological parents were forced to give her up due to a sudden crisis.
Now, Gracie and Isaac were saying they had to let go of their daughter over two decades ago.
The Mendoza family had lived abroad for many years.
Her biological parents might have been abroad as well.
Adeline thought, "Could it be that Isaac and Gracie are my biological parents? And Alberto is my older brother?"
Adeline suddenly recalled the overwhelming sadness she'd felt when she first heard of Alberto's accident.
Recently, she'd often found herself thinking about Alberto.
Whenever she went to the hospital to see Lacey or Sam, she'd somehow end up near Alberto's room.
She had no idea why.
But now, she suddenly realized that Alberto might be her brother.
"Was that why I instinctively cared about him so much?" Adeline thought!
"I apologize, Miss Hensley," Isaac said.
"Before Alberto's accident, he had arranged to find out which hospital you were at, possibly to visit you. Because of that, we investigated some details about you. When we saw your photo, we were stunned by how much you resemble Alberto, and there are many similarities between you and us as well."
At this, Adeline began to notice the resemblance.
They did look alike.
If she told people Isaac and Gracie were her parents, no one would question it.
Gracie wiped her tears, saying, "At first, we considered discreetly collecting your hair or something to do a DNA test, but we thought it would be more respectful to ask for your permission."
They wanted to know if Adeline was truly their daughter.
But they didn't know if she'd be willing.
If Adeline didn't want a DNA test, Gracie and Isaac couldn't force it.
To secretly conduct one without her consent felt disrespectful.
"Miss Hensley, would you be willing to take a DNA test with us?" Isaac asked carefully.
Isaac was the head of the Mendoza family, and it had been years since he'd spoken to anyone with such caution.
Adeline looked at them, her eyes tinged with emotion. Holding back her excitement, she nodded.
"That's wonderful!" Gracie exclaimed, reaching out to take Adeline's hand, but she stopped herself, feeling it might be too forward.
Adeline, in truth, wanted to feel close to them as well.
But they hadn't confirmed yet that she was truly their daughter.
Adeline was afraid they'd be hoping for nothing.
After all, she did look strikingly similar to someone named Whitney.
Even though other details about the Mendoza family matched Mateo's story, it might be all coincidence.
Adeline pulled out a strand of hair and handed it to Gracie.
Although she barely felt the tug, Gracie's expression showed pain and concern.
At that moment, Harrison's car pulled up.
He stepped out and looked a bit surprised when he saw Adeline with Gracie and Isaac.
Isaac and Gracie recognized him immediately.
"Mr. Thomson."
Harrison walked up to Adeline's side.
Their eyes met, and he understood she was alright, so he greeted Isaac and Gracie.
"Mr. Mendoza, Mrs. Mendoza."
Harrison shook hands with Isaac and nodded to Gracie.
Gracie smiled in return, glancing between him and Adeline.
It was clear Harrison had come for Adeline.
Since it wasn't during work hours, he'd clearly driven over to take Adeline home.
Gracie had heard about the close bond between Harrison and Adeline.
Now it seemed the rumors were true.
Gracie couldn't help but look at Harrison as if he was her prospective son-in-law.
If Gracie was from an ordinary family, she would certainly be thrilled with a son-in-law like Harrison.
But the Mendoza family was part of the elite.
Since she'd always lived abroad, Gracie didn't know Harrison that well.
So, she couldn't wholeheartedly approve just yet.
To her, her daughter was precious beyond words.
Years ago, during the family's crisis, Gracie had no choice but to ask her sister to take her daughter away, leading to their separation. Now, reunited, Gracie wanted to make up for every bit of lost time.
Although the DNA test hadn't confirmed it yet, Gracie had a deep, unshakable feeling that Adeline was her daughter.
The bond between mother and daughter couldn't be denied.
"Would it be alright if I went to see Alberto at the hospital now?" Adeline asked.
She'd been wanting to visit Alberto but didn't want to intrude.
"Of course," Gracie nodded, her eyes still red.
"He still hasn't woken up, but if you go to see him, maybe..."
Alberto had adored his sister when they were young.
He'd been working all these years to find her.
Now that she was here, maybe the joy would help him wake up.
The four of them set off for the hospital, with Isaac and Gracie in one car and Adeline riding with Harrison.
On the way, Adeline recounted what had just happened to Harrison.
Harrison hadn't expected Adeline's parents to be from the Mendoza family.
Although the DNA test results weren't in, from what Adeline had described, he was nearly certain they were her family.
