Chapter 281: Don’t Tell My Wife
At his words, everyone turned to look toward the corner.
The waiter hiding in the corner, trying to minimize his presence, almost wet himself in fear.
As soon as Adeline saw him, she recognized him.
This was the same waiter who had come over to tell her that Mr. Robinson was asking for Harrison.
But in reality, Mr. Robinson wasn't even at this restaurant tonight.
The waiter stayed frozen in the corner until the restaurant owner walked over and dragged him out.
"What's going on with you? Spill it out!"
The waiter glanced up slightly, only to meet Harrison's icy stare.
He stammered in terror, "Mr. Thomson, it's not my fault! A woman approached me and gave me fifty thousand dollars to tell you that Mr. Robinson wanted to see you. She told me to lead you to the area near room 308 and then slip away. When I asked her why, she said her boss was a friend of yours and just wanted to play a little prank..."
To be honest, he thought the whole thing was bizarre, but the lure of fifty thousand dollars was too tempting.
Besides, he figured it wasn't anything serious.
But he didn't think it would blow up like this.
The waiter was terrified, worried he'd end up ruining his life over fifty thousand dollars.
"Who was the woman who approached you?" Adeline asked.
"I don't know! She was covered up completely, wearing sunglasses and a mask. I couldn't tell who she was."
It seemed like the waiter might have been lying.
Adeline thought for a moment and said, "The two people who lied to Mr. Stein must have also been paid to do it, right? I suggest you come forward and tell the truth now instead of wasting everyone's time."
A murmur rippled through the crowd, but still, no one stepped forward.
Adeline let out a cold smile and said, "This is your final chance. If you come forward now, I'll be lenient and simply ask that you leave this restaurant. But if we have to find out ourselves, Mi be pressing charges for defamation. So, think carefully. Are you ready to face the legal consequences?"
She spoke each word firmly and clearly.
The two waiters who had lied to Conrad felt a chill run down their spines.
One of them couldn't hold back any longer and finally stepped out from the crowd.
"I... I'll tell the truth..."
Seeing his colleague step forward, the other one reluctantly followed.
"So, it was the two of you?" Harrison asked coldly.
Hearing his voice, the two waiters began to tremble.
Adeline patted Harrison's hand and said with a sigh, "Let me handle this."
His aura was far too intimidating.
Adeline worried that these two would be too scared to speak at all.
After speaking to Harrison, Adeline turned to the two waiters and said, "Tell me everything you know. I promise to keep my word, and I won't press charges against you."
One of the waiters said, "We're in the same situation as him... A woman approached us, gave us money, and told us what to say. She instructed us to wait until Mr. Stein was alone and then go over and say those things to him."
"Yes. We didn't get a good look at the woman either."
"What about her voice?"
"She seemed to be speaking in a low voice on purpose. Even if we tried to recognize her by voice, we couldn't tell who she was. She didn't sound like anyone famous."
"Everything we said is true. We didn't make up the story."
"Miss Hensley, Mr. Thomson, we're truly-sorry. At the time, we thought she just wanted us to spread a bit of gossip about Miss Hensley..."
"And you thought it was fine to spread such slanderous rumors?" Harrison said coldly.
"What if the person being slandered was your friend, your family member, or even yourself? Would it still seem trivial to you?"
The two waiters lowered their heads, too ashamed to speak further.
"Alright, let everyone else go," Adeline said.
The other waiters left.
The restaurant owner couldn't resist scolding the three bribed waiters once more.
Thankfully, Adeline hadn't been harmed tonight.
Otherwise, his restaurant would surely be finished.
"Mr. Thomson, I just had the entire restaurant's surveillance checked," Rowen reported. "We did catch sight of a woman wearing sunglasses and a mask in the footage, though I couldn't identify who she was. However, I also noticed a familiar face."
"Who?" Harrison asked.
"Miss Fraser," Rowen replied. "She's dining here tonight with a director."
At the mention of Eleanor's name, Harrison and Adeline exchanged a glance.
What a coincidence that this incident happened on the very night Eleanor was dining at the same restaurant.
Although they suspected her, they had no evidence linking Eleanor to the scheme.
Just because Eleanor had a bad reputation didn't mean they could blame her for everything.
"Yes, Eleanor," Conrad said, as though he had found a lifeline. "I ran into her at the entrance tonight. I even told her I was meeting with you two. Could this whole thing be Eleanor's doing?" Harrison sneered and ignored him.
Even if someone had set him up, Conrad was not innocent.
This was a business dinner, and he shouldn't think of other dirty things.
Conrad was only regretful now because he feared Harrison.
If Adeline hadn't been Harrison's secretary but an assistant to a small-time boss, Conrad wouldn't have hesitated to lay a hand on her even if he knew the waiters' words were lies.
People like him wouldn't act out of conscience.
He was simply intimidated by power.
Conrad was now on pins and needles.
He didn't know how Harrison planned to deal with him.
Either way, this business deal with Harrison was definitely over.
He'd worked so hard to secure this
opportunity, and just when he was about to sign the contract, he ruined everything with his lust.
Most importantly, if his wife found out about this, he would be done for.
Just as Conrad had this thought, he heard
Harrison say, "Mr. Stein, I'll make sure your wife knows every detail about tonight's events. I believe she has a right to know."
Hearing this, Conrad felt a chill.
To be honest, he feared his wife even more than he feared Harrison.
Harrison's move was ruthless, much worse than directly dealing with him.
Conrad begged, "Mr. Thomson, please don't tell my wife about this. As long as you don't tell her, I'll do whatever you want..."
