Chapter 279: He’s in for a Treat
It wasn't even the agreed time yet, but Conrad was already waiting at the entrance.
After all, this was a business meeting with Harrison, an opportunity he'd worked hard to secure. He had to make a good impression.
After a while, he saw a car pull up in front of the restaurant.
Harrison and Adeline had arrived.
"Mr. Thomson!" Conrad greeted him warmly.
"It's truly an honor to dine with you tonight, Mr. Thomson..."
Conrad hadn't even finished speaking when he noticed Adeline standing beside Harrison.
His eyes went wide for a moment.
But being an experienced man, he quickly composed himself and didn't let his interest in Adeline show.
After all, she was Harrison's secretary.
He wouldn't dare make any moves in front of Harrison.
"This must be Miss Hensley?" Conrad asked with a friendly smile.
Adeline nodded politely and said, "Nice to meet you, Mr. Stein."
"Mr. Thomson, Miss Hensley, l've already reserved a private room for us. Please, come in."
Eleanor stood by the window in her private room, watching Conrad escort Harrison and Adeline into the restaurant, feeling anxious.
Eleanor thought, "That idiot. She's taking so long to do such a simple task!"
Just then, the director she was meeting arrived.
Eleanor had to suppress her impatience and greeted the director with a smile.
The food had already been ordered, so as soon as he arrived, Eleanor asked the waiter to start serving the dishes.
The two of them ate and discussed matters regarding the new movie.
Halfway through the meal, Halle finally returned to Eleanor's side.
She leaned over and whispered, "Everything's done."
A smile immediately appeared on Eleanor's face.
"Is there an issue, Miss Fraser?" the director asked.
"No, nothing at all." Eleanor raised her glass with a smile. "Cheers."
"Cheers." The director raised his glass too.
Here's to a successful collaboration."
Meanwhile, in another private room, Conrad was dining and chatting with Harrison.
When discussing business, Conrad was all focus.
Even when talking to Adeline, he kept things professional.
Since drinking was a staple at these gatherings, he drank a lot himself, although Conrad didn't dare push Harrison to drink.
As the business discussions wrapped up, he began to drink more and more.
After drinking so much, he inevitably needed to go to the restroom.
On his way back from the restroom, while washing his hands, he overheard two waitstaff chatting by the door?
"Are you serving in the private room with Mr.
Thomson and Mr. Stein? Did you see Mr.
Thomson?"
"Yeah, Mr. Thomson is so handsome and accomplished!"
"Did you see his secretary?"
"You mean Miss Hensley? Of course ! did! Oh my, she's absolutely stunning!"
Hearing them mention Adeline, Conrad immediately turned off the faucet and perked up to listen.
"Yeah, she's beautiful, but it's a shame...
"What do you mean?"
"You know what? She's just Mr. Thomson's tool for business negotiations." Conrad's curiosity was piqued.
"Huh? What do you mean by that?" one of the waitstaff asked.
"Don't you get it? Mr. Thomson keeps such a beautiful secretary around just so she can entertain his business partners!"
"Really?"
"I wouldn't lie to you! Last time, Mr. Thomson brought her here for a business deal too. I saw that he sent her off to keep another boss company!"
"What a waste. Such a beautiful woman ends up as a rich mah's plaything."
After they finished their conversation, the waitstaff left.
Conrad, however, felt his interest growing.
He thought, "So Adeline is actually someone Harrison uses to entertain business partners? No wonder she is so young and already his chief secretary! But during dinner, Harrison hasn t hinted at anything like that. And Adeline seemed completely professional."
Then again, with someone like Harrison, he
probably wouldn't spell it out.
Thinking about Adeline's pretty face, Conrad felt his excitement building.
He thought he was in for a treat tonight.
When he returned to the private room, he saw Harrison talking to Adeline.
Harrison said something, and Adeline nodded lightly.
Conrad couldn't help but wonder if Harrison was instructing Adeline to keep him company tonight.
After all, they'd had such a pleasant business discussion.
The more he thought about it, the more convinced he became.
Conrad sat down with a satisfied grin but kept a serious demeanor as he continued talking business with Harrison.
As they neared the end of the meeting, there was a gentle knock at the door.
Conrad's secretary went to open it.
"Good evening," said a waiter standing at the door. "May I ask whò Mr. Thomson is?"
Harrison looked up.
Adeline asked, "Is there something you need?"
"A guest in room 308 has requested Mr.
Thomson's presence."
Adeline was a bit surprised and thought, "Who is this guest with enough influence to summon Harrison?"
"Who's the guest in room 308?" Conrad asked.
"It's Mr. Robinson."
Upon hearing this, Conrad straightened up.
Adeline had heard of Mr. Robinson as well: He was known to be quite formidable in his younger days and was close friends with Lorenzo.
Harrison had practically grown up under his watch.
"I'll head over," Harrison said, getting up.
"Go ahead," Adeline replied. "I'll finish up the conversation with Mr. Stein."
"Alright."
When Adeline had first become Harrison's chief secretary, there were times when someone would make advances on her at business dinners.
But Harrison had firmly dealt with them.
Since then, no one dared to make a move on her at such events.
And with Conrad behaving professionally throughout, neither of them had considered that possibility tonight.
After Harrison left, Adeline continued discussing business with Conrad.
However, Conrad suddenly gave a signal to his secretary.
His secretary understood immediately, got up, left the room, and closed the door behind him.
Now, only Conrad and Adeline were left in the private room.
Conrad's demeanor instantly changed as he
moved closer to Adeline with a lecherous look.
"Miss Hensley..."
Adeline's face turned cold. She stood up, took a step back, and said icily, "Mr. Stein, l'd like to keep our conversation professional."
"Mr. Thomson is gone. What's there left to discuss?" Conrad stared at Adeline, practically drooling.
He glanced around and then suddenly said, "Let me be honest with you. Mr. Thomson already told me that he brought you here tonight to keep me company..."
