One night with my president (chapter 215)

Chapter 215: Midnight Call

"You haven't slept yet?" Adeline responded in shock.

Joyce directly made a video call.

After Adeline answered, she saw Joyce lying in bed with her big eyes wide open, not looking sleepy.

"You look nothing like yourself right now,"

Adeline remarked. "Aren't you always advocating for going to bed early and waking up late?"

"I wanted to go to bed early, but I can't sleep when I think about Sam," Joyce said gloomily.

Adeline couldn't help but feel sorry for her.

"Do you really like him that much?"

"Yeah." Joyce nodded vigorously. "Just like how you like Mr. Thomson."

Adeline was speechless.

How did the conversation suddenly shift to her?

"Don't bring me into this."

"I knew it. Look at you..."

Before Joyce could finish her sentence, the video call suddenly dropped.

Adeline was a bit confused. She hadn't ended the call. She thought, "Did Joyce accidentally press something?"

Just as she was about to call Joyce back, a video suddenly popped up on her phone screen, and Adeline couldn't close it no matter how hard she tried.

At first, the video was completely black, and then a terrifying ghost face suddenly appeared.

Adeline was startled when the ghost face first popped up, but then she just stared at the screen expressionlessly.

Her current reaction was, "Oh no, my phone must be infected with a virus."

She didn't know if it could be fixed. If not, she would have to spend money on a new one.

The video lasted for about three minutes, during which the ghost face kept screaming, crying, and laughing.

Adeline found it noisy but couldn't lower the volume.

After three minutes, the video turned off by itself, and another call came in.

Strangely, this call didn't display the caller's number.

Adeline was afraid that answering this call would expose her phone to a new virus, so she hesitated to pick up.

But she couldn't hang up either.

If she didn't answer, the phone would just keep ringing.

Tired of the ringing, Adeline decided to pick up.

Since her phone was already acting weird, she wasn't afraid of more viruses.

As soon as she answered, there was no sound on the other end.

"Who? Speak," Adeline said angrily.

Just the thought of having to buy a new phone was infuriating. She had no time to play games with this person.

As soon as she finished speaking, a woman's crying voice came from the other end.

Adeline thought to herself that she hadn't even cried yet.

"Adeline..." The woman's voice on the phone was very hoarse. "How have you been?"

"Not bad," Adeline replied expressionlessly.

"How about you?"

"Me? I'm not doing well... Adeline, I died a miserable death."

The voice on the other end became sharper, sounding very eerie in the dead of night.

Upon hearing this, Adeline understood.

"Oh, so you are Amber?"

Her calm voice threw the "ghost" on the other end off guard.

The "ghost" fell silent for a moment before saying in a chilling voice, "That's right. It's me. I died, and you're still alive. I'm unwilling to accept it."

"Using a deceased person for such a prank, doesn't your conscience prick you?" Adeline asked coldly.

There was silence on the other end of the phone.

After a while, the call ended.

Perhaps the "ghost" realized she wasn't scared at all and gave up.

Adeline looked at her phone, which had returned to normal, and sneered.

She was a staunch materialist.

Trying to scare her by pretending to be a ghost was a wrong idea.

Adeline thought, "But who will do such a thing?"

Adeline checked her phone carefully and found it had returned to normal, as if nothing had happened.

Just then, Joyce's video call came in again.

When Adeline picked up, she saw a nervous-looking Joyce.

"Adeline, what happened to you just now?" Joyce examined her closely, relieved when she saw that Adeline seemed fine.

"What did it show on your end?" Adeline asked.

"It just showed that you suddenly hung up the video. I thought the connection was lost, so l called you back, but you didn't answer,”Joyce said. "You scared me. I thought something happened to you. If you hadn't answered, I would have called the police."

"It was just a little incident," Adeline replied.

Then, she told Joyce everything that had just happened.

Listening to the story in the middle of the night made Joyce shiver, and she quickly burrowed under the covers.

"Wait, you aren't scared at all? Just hearing you say that makes me start to feel scared."

"You know, I've never been afraid of these things," Adeline said.

"Weren't you on bad terms with that Amber?"

Adeline said, "Yeah, so if she really wanted to find me, she could just come right up to me. Why call?"

Joyce was speechless.

It sounded quite reasonable.

"But this is a serious matter." Joyce suddenly became serious.

"I know."

While this seemed like just a prank, coming to scare people in the middle of the night could easily cause problems, especially since they used the recently deceased Amber to scare Adeline.

If Adeline were timid, she didn't know what might happen.

"Adeline, you need to be careful. Even though your phone seems normal, the other party might have left some virus or other weird software on your phone. It just hasn't shown up yet."

"Don't worry, I know. I'll take it to get checked tomorrow morning."

"Phew... Okay, I'm going to sleep now. You should get some rest too."

After what happened on Adeline's side, Joyce wanted Adeline to have a good rest and decided not to mention her own troubles.

"Joyce, don't overthink it," Adeline said. "If we don't know how to handle what comes to us, let them take their natural course."

After all, when it came to relationships, they couldn't force them.

"Yeah, I know," Joyce said.

After ending the video call, Joyce snuggled under her blanket and sighed heavily.

What she wanted to know most was who had attacked Sam.

She had already asked some industry acquaintances for help, but there had been no leads.

If she found out who it was, she definitely wouldn't let that person off the hook.

In the morning, Adeline was awakened by the sound of her phone ringing.

Groggily, she reached for her phone and saw it was a call from Harrison.

"Hello?"

"I'm downstairs," Harrison said. "You should still be home, right?"

"Huh? Why are you here? Wait, how is it already this time?"

Adeline glanced at the clock on the wall.

It was already twenty minutes past the alarm time she had set.
