Chapter 202: Callan
Sam frowned and thought for a while, and then said, "I remember that after I left the club, I was stabbed several times by two people. Just as I was about to lose consciousness, I overheard a conversation between them. One of them casually asked, 'Who exactly did this young man offend?' The other replied, 'If the boss gave the order himself, this man must have offended Callan."
Sam imitated their conversation perfectly.
"After they finished talking, I passed out," Sam said. "They probably thought I was as good as dead, so they just ran away."
Harrison nodded and said, "I understand."
At least now, they had a lead, the name "Callan."
"Don't tell my parents about this," Sam said with a bitter smile. "They're getting old. It's bad enough that they worry about me regularly. I don't want them to live in fear because of this. Of course, with the Juarez family's/power, we're not afraid of anyone, but I don't want them to worry any more than they already do."
"Don't worry," Harrison said. "I'll tell them there's no need. to worry. I'll get to the bottom of this."
"Thanks."
"Why so formal with me?"
After a bit more conversation, Sam's eyelids started to droop again.
Harrison told him to get some rest and then left the hospital room.
Adeline was waiting by the door.
She had just returned and saw that Harrison and Sam were talking alone, so she waited outside without going in.
"Sam just told me that he overheard the two attackers mention someone named 'Callan,' Harrison said to Adeline. "If we're going to investigate, we can start with this person."
As soon as he finished speaking, Adeline's
expression changed.
Harrison noticed immediately and quickly asked.
"What's wrong? Do you know this person?"
"I'm not sure," Adeline replied, her face pale.
Harrison didn't push her, patiently waiting for her to continue.
Adeline added, "Do you remember that night at the bar when you came to find me? The man who was sitting near Joyce and me?"
Harrison thought for a moment and said, "I remember."
"He's the bar owner and a friend of Joyce's. His name is Callan."
"Are you suspicious of him?" Harrison asked.
"It seems a bit far-fetched to suspect him just because he has the same name as Callan," Adeline said. "But the key issue is that he has feelings for Joyce."
Considering the gravity of the situation, Adeline couldn't keep this information to herself any longer.
"He has feelings for Ms. Monroe, and Ms.
Monroe..." Harrison glanced at the door to Sam's room.
Adeline nodded and said, "And from what I can tell, he strongly disapproves of Joyce's relationship with Sam."
"If that's the case, then he does seem highly suspicious," Harrison said. "What's his family background?"
Adeline frowned and said, "On the surface, he's just an ordinary person, but I can't guarantee that he doesn't have any hidden connections. I should• look into him further."
She was about to take out her phone, but Harrison grabbed her wrist.
"Let me handle the investigation," he said.
Adeline was puzzled. "Why? What's the difference?"
"There's a difference," Harrison said. "If he really has some powerful connections and you investigate him, if he finds out, he might target you."
Hearing this, Adeline understood.
He didn't want her to be put in danger.
She suddenly remembered the time when the company's new product secrets were leaked.
Aprico Group had hastily found a scapegoat, but they both knew that Kaylie was likely involved.
Back then, Harrison had told her to stop investigating.
At the time, she thought Harrison didn't want to offend the Hickman family on her behalf.
But now it seemed he was worried that continuing the investigation would put her in danger.
Adeline smiled at the thought of this.
"What's so funny?" Harrison asked.
"Nothing, I just suddenly realized that I might have misunderstood you in many ways."
"Is that so?" Harrison smiled as well. "Well, if there are any other misunderstandings, tell me now."
His words reminded Adeline of that night at the hotel.
She had been afraid to let him know that she was the woman from that night because she wasn't sure what the consequences would be.
But now, maybe she should tell him.
Adeline opened her mouth, about to say something, but her phone suddenly rang.
She answered it and after a few words, said to Harrison, "There's something at the office I need to take care of. Are you going to the office today?"
"You go ahead," Harrison said. "Breakfast hasn't. arrived yet. I'll have them send your portion to the office."
Since Adeline didn't say it was anything urgent, it meant she could handle it on her own.
"Okay."
After Adeline left, Harrison made a phone call.
"Get Ayden and the others. Tell them to have lunch with me. It's on me."
When Adeline arrived at the CEO's office, she immediately noticed that Amber's seat was empty.
It was already work hours, and she knew Amber wouldn't be late.
Adeline felt a bit uneasy. She walked over to her desk and sat down. Just then, Anna brought over some documents, so she asked, "Has Amber not arrived yet?"
"It seems not. I haven't seen her at all," Anna replied.
"Call her and ask if she's coming to work today."
Anna found this a bit strange.
Amber usually handled trivial tasks in the CEO's office, and her absence wouldn't matter much.
Besides, Adeline had never paid much attention to Amber's work before, so Anna didn't know why Adeline suddenly asked about Amber today.
However, Anna didn't ask any further questions. and went to make the call.
After Adeline finished handling some matters, Anna came back and said, "Ms. Hensley, I've called Amber several times, but she didn't answer."
At Anna's words, Adeline's unease grew stronger.
"Check Amber's address and have someone go check on her."
By this time, Anna had started to understand.
"Ms. Hensley, do you think Amber might have..." Anna's eyes widened in shock.
"Could it have something to do with that person?"
"Don't say that," Adeline quickly replied.
"Remember, don't mention that incident to anyone."
"I know," Anna nodded quickly. "I'll have someone go check on Amber right away!"
Adeline took a deep breath.
It wasn't that she was particularly
concerned about Amber. She just didn't want any more troubling issues to arise, nor did she want these issues to affect her or the people she cared about.
