Chapter 264: Conspiracy
Adeline was puzzled.
She and Alberto hardly knew each other.
Adeline was grateful that Alberto had helped her.
She didn't want anything bad to happen to him.
But she didn't know why she felt this way.
Harrison seemed to understand her feelings.
He didn't ask further and just said, "I'll take you home. If I get any news, I'll let you know."
"Okay."
It was already very late, but Benjamin still hadn't gone to bed.
He sat on the sofa and held a glass of red wine, looking sullen.
The image of Harrison carrying Adeline away kept replaying in his mind.
"Whitney has been taken away. If it were in Mugroaton, Harrison couldn't have taken her away!" Benjamin thought.
Benjamin put down the wine glass, picked up his phone, and opened the photo album.
The album was filled with pictures of a girl, who resembled Adeline a lot. •
"Whitney..." Benjamin gently caressed the girl's face on the phone screen. "Don't worry. I'll get you back to me sooner or later. I know you love me the most. You wouldn't want to stay with another man, would you?"
Naturally, the photo couldn't answer him.
Benjamin stared obsessively at the girl's smile in the photo.
At that moment, someone knocked on the door.
Benjamin put down the phone and went to answer the door.
Standing at the door was Eleanor, dressed impeccably.
"Mr. Tillman." Eleanor smiled.
Benjamin said indifferently, "Come in."
Eleanor followed him into the hotel room, closing the door behind her, feeling both nervous and a bit excited.
It was Benjamin who had called her to come here.
When she received his call, she thought she was dreaming.
Eleanor thought, "Didn't Benjamin dislike me? Why would he call me to the hotel? Could it be that he intended to harm me?"
Eleanor was aware of this possibility but still clung to a sliver of hope.
Eleanor thought, "Maybe Benjamin has suddenly developed an interest in me."
So she dressed up carefully and came to the hotel.
Fortunately, Lance had drunk quite a bit tonight and was already asleep.
If Lance had known she was meeting Benjamin, he would have been furious.
By now, Benjamin was already sitting on the sofa.
Eleanor walked over to the sofa.
"Have a seat," Benjamin said.
Eleanor hesitated but eventually sat down on the sofa opposite him, not daring to sit beside him.
At this moment, she noticed Benjamin's phone on the coffee table.
The phone screen was still on, so Eleanor saw a photo on the screen.
She was taken aback and thought, "Isn't that Adeline? Why is Benjamin looking at Adeline's photo? Hasn't he just arrived in the country a few days ago? Did he know Adeline before?"
Eleanor was puzzled but didn't dare to ask.
Then, Benjamin asked, "Where is Lance?"
"He's asleep," Eleanor replied.
Benjamin picked up the wine glass and gently swirled the red wine, seemingly deep in thought.
After a while, he said, "Tomorrow, I'll have someone forcibly take Lance back to Mugroaton."
Eleanor was delighted.
Of course, she was happy to have Lance, that lunatic, taken away.
However, she still feigned confusion and asked, "Why?"
"To remove an obstacle between you and Harrison."
Eleanor was stunned by his words. "What...
What? What do you mean?"
"Don't you want to be with Harrison?" Benjamin asked with a cold smile.
Eleanor didn't know how to answer.
Of course, she wanted to be with Harrison.
But she didn't know why Benjamin would help her.
"If you don't answer, that means you do," Benjamin said. "Rest assured, I'm not lying to you or plotting against you. I genuinely hope you can be with Harrison."
Eleanor looked at Benjamin and felt he seemed sincere.
If Benjamin had truly intended to act against her, he wouldn't have wasted time with these manipulations in the first place.
"Well, thank you, Mr. Tillman," Eleanor said with a smile.
For her, being with Harrison was far better than being with the perverted Lance.
Now that Benjamin was willing to help her get Harrison, Eleanor certainly wouldn't refuse.
"Very well," Benjamin said. "Now, tell me all about your situation with Harrison."
So Eleanor recounted her situation with Harrison.
She didn't go into every detail, just the gist of it.
And she was careful not to mention her conflict with Adeline.
After all, she had just seen Adeline's photo on Benjamin's phone, and she wasn't sure what the relationship was between them.
She'd better be cautious.
After she finished speaking, Benjamin fell silent.
Elèanor was even more useless than he had anticipated.
Just from what Eleanor had said, he could tell Harrison had no interest in her.
But besides Eleanor, he had no other choices.
After a long wait, Benjamin finally spoke. "I understand."
Eleanor sighed in relief.
Then, she cautiously asked, "May I ask why you are helping me?"
She had a vague feeling that Benjamin's desire to help her get Harrison was related to Adeline.
Benjamin said coldly, "As long as you can lure him away, he won't compete with me for my beloved."
"Beloved? Is that Miss Hensley?" Eleanor asked.
Benjamin didn't answer, which was tantamount to confirmation.
Although Eleanor had long suspected this, hearing the answer from Benjamin made her heartache.
Eleanor thought angrily, "How could this happen? Why would Benjamin like Adeline? He has just returned to the country. How could he fall for Adeline so quickly?"
Eleanor was consumed with jealousy and anger.
"Why does Adeline deserve all this? Harrison, Benjamin, everyone likes Adeline... And I? I only have the perverted Lance by my side!" she thought hatefully.
Overwhelmed by anger and jealousy, Eleanor failed to control her expression.
Benjamin noticed and his face darkened.
He said menacingly, "I warn you, don't set your sights on her. I can help you get Harrison and advance your career. But if you dare harm Adeline, I will make sure you suffer severely."
The room was warm, but Eleanor felt a chill from head to toe.
"Rest assured," Eleanor, quickly said with a smile, "Since Adeline is important to you, how could I ever harm her?"
Benjamin coldly replied, "You may leave now."
Eleanor didn't dare linger and quickly left.
After she left, Benjamin once again picked up his phone and looked at the photo on the screen.
"Whitney, once Harrison is lured away by Eleanor, you'll realize that other men are unreliable. I am the one who loves you the most in this world."
