Chapter 222: The Paternity Test
Harrison said, "The first thing is that Lance, the second child of the Tillman family, indeed left Mugroaton and came here not long ago."
Although Lance's travel plans were very secretive, Harrison managed to find out.
"So, have you found any connection between him and Amber?" Adeline asked.
"Not yet. However, if Eleanor wants to harm Amber, then Lance is indeed a very useful tool."
Adeline nodded in agreement.
She took a deep breath and asked, "What's the second thing?"
She had a strong premonition that the second thing was related to her.
Harrison softened his tone and said, "The results of the paternity test between you and Mateo are out."
"Okay, go ahead." Adeline smiled and said, "Don't worry, I've long since lost any feelings for Mateo.
He's not like my mother. Even if he isn't my biological father, I wouldn't be too upset."
Harrison said, "You guessed right. He is indeed not your biological father."
When she heard this, a weight seemed to lift from Adeline's heart.
Mateo wasn't her biological father.
There was no blood relation between them.
No wonder she had never felt any fatherly love from him over the years.
Perhaps because she had already prepared herself mentally, she didn't feel much emotional fluctuation this time.
Since her mother wasn't her biological mother and Mateo wasn't her biological father, then, where were her biological parents?
Why did they abandon her in the first place?
How did she end up with the Hensley family?
Although she still missed her deceased mother, now that Adeline knew she had another set of parents in this world, it was hard not to care.
"Are you alright?" Harrison asked with concern.
Adeline came back to her senses and said, "I'm fine. I'm just thinking about what my biological parents might be like."
"Mateo might give you answers about the past," Harrison said.
"Yes, you're right," Adeline nodded. "What he said about his girlfriend when he was young was definitely made up. I want to meet him again and ask him about the past."
"Okay," Harrison said. "I'll take you there."
Harrison's subordinates had placed Mateo in a remote little room.
They provided Mateo with only the most basic bread and water, ensuring he wouldn't starve or die of thirst.
Although Mateo could temporarily hide here, he was not satisfied and kept shouting that he was Adeline's father and might one day be Mr. Thomson's father-in-law. He was angry that he was treated like this. He would make them pay for it later.
However, the guards ignored him.
When Harrison and Adeline arrived, Mateo was still shouting in the room.
"I want to drink. I want to eat meat. Don't you know Mr. Thomson put you here to serve me? If Mr. Thomson finds out that you didn't give me wine or meat, he'll definitely punish you severely."
A hint of helplessness flashed in Adeline's eyes.
Mateo behaved this way no matter the time.
Harrison had his subordinate open the door and walked in with Adeline.
As soon as Mateo saw them, his shouting immediately stopped.
His eyes lit up as he said, "Adeline, Mr. Thomson, you finally came to see me."
"I know everything now," Adeline said.
Mateo proudly said, "Did you go ask your aunt? I wasn't wrong. You are indeed not your mother's biological child. I didn't lie to you. I've shared such a big secret with you. Can't you give me some money? That's not too much to ask, right?"
Adeline sneered, "The secret you told me is quite big, but it seems you haven't finished your story."
"What... What do you mean? How have I not finished?" A bad feeling surged in Mateo's heart.
"You only told me l'm not my mother's biological child, and why didn't you tell me that you and I also have no blood relation?"
"That's complete nonsense," Mateo shouted.
"How can I not be your father? I am your real father. How dare you not recognize your own father? That's simply unfilial."
He was panicking, not because he valued this relationship but because he feared that after Adeline learned they weren't biologically related, she would completely abandon him.
"It doesn't matter if you deny it," Adeline said coldly. "I have already done a paternity test."
Mateo was stunned.
He suddenly recalled that last night he choked on bread and when he was drinking water, he felt someone come up behind him and then his scalp hurt.
But at the time, he was just focused on drinking and didn't think too much about it.
Now that he thought about it, someone must have pulled his hair to take it for the paternity test with Adeline.
He had only wanted to use this secret to exchange for some money, but unexpectedly, he had cut off his own path.
"Your story about your ex-girlfriend was pretty well made up," Adeline said. "But now, I want to know the truth from back then."
Mateo's eyes darted around. Then he suddenly grinned, sitting back on the chair behind him, crossing his legs, and saying, "You want to know about the past, right? You want to know who your biological parents are, right? Bring me some money."
Since Adeline knew he wasn't her biological father, it was certain that she wouldn't care for him anymore.
After all, he had long since received repayment for the so-called "nurturing grace" he had given her.
Given that, he would naturally extort one last sum of money from her. Any little bit would help.
Adeline looked at him, a deep disgust rising in her eyes.
"Don't look at me like that. You need the truth, and I need money. We can exchange."
If it were someone else, Adeline might think this made sense.
But now, it was Mateo.
Remembering the debts she had paid him back and what he had done to her with Millie and Janiyah, Adeline didn't want to give him a single cent.
Moreover, someone like Mateo wouldn't necessarily tell the truth even if she gave him money.
"I know you have Mr. Thomson backing you now, but so what? I won't tell you about the past without seeing the money. You can just kill me if you want. After all, my life is worthless... However, if you kill me or hand me over to those creditors, then you can forget about knowing what happened back then. Asking your aunt won't help. She only knows you re not our biological child, nothing else," Mateo said.
His attitude also annoyed Harrison.
He stepped forward and, before Mateo could react, kicked him to the ground.

ReplyDeleteThat's good for Mateo, what Harrison did to him serves him and he is disgusting. I pray he reveals Adeline's parents to her even if he will be tortured.
