Chapter 187: You Are Delaying Yourself
Callan also had someone he liked.
So naturally, he understood what it was like to fall for someone. .
Joyce felt a bit awkward.
Although she and Callan were good friends, they were of different genders.
Joyce could share such personal matters with Adeline, but Callan was different from Adeline.
Now, with Callan pointing it out, Joyce couldn't help but feel a bit uncomfortable.
"Well, I'm heading home." Joyce forced a smile and said, "It's quite late now."
With that, she stood up.
Callan, seeing the blush on her face from her drunkenness, sighed and stood up as well.
"You're already drunk. I'll take you home."
"No need." Joyce shook her head. "If you want to help, just drop me at the door and help me get a cab."
Callan said nothing more and followed Joyce to bar's entrance.
Joyce, preoccupied with thoughts of Sam, didn't notice that Callan didn't call a cab but instead brought his own cár.
After pulling up in front of her, he got out of the driver's seat, walked around to the passenger side, and opened the car door for her.
"Get in."
Just as Joyce was about to get in, she suddenly realized something was off.
"Is this your car? You don't need to take me home, and you've been drinking tonight, right?"
Callan was silent for a moment before saying, "! haven't been drinking tonight. I've only been having soft drinks."
"Oh, really?"
Joyce felt even more awkward.
After all, her attention had been on Sam tonight.
So she hadn't noticed whether Callan was drinking alcohol or not.
"Your home isn't very far, so it's fine for me to take you back.
In such cold weather and so late at night, Joyce didn't want to argue further. She said, "Thanks then." Then she got into Callan's car.
She was there to support Callan today, so it wasn't a big deal for him to drive her home.
Watching Joyce get into the car, Callan then returned to the driver's seat.
He intended to help Joyce fasten her seatbelt.
But Joyce had already fastened it herself as soon as she got in the car.
Callan fastened his own seatbelt, and in silence, started the car.
Joyce remained silent as well.
She was still reminiscing about her conversation with Sam today.
She had been in relationships before, but Sam was the first person to make her feel this way.
She didn't know what had come over her.
As they passed a traffic light, Callan stopped the car.
He turned to glance at Joyce, who was still distracted, and couldn't help but say, "From your long talk with him tonight and my chat with him, I can tell he's not serious about his feelings. Joyce, you should give up on him. I don't want to see you get hurt."
Joyce knew Callan was right.
But whether it was the effects of alcohol or something else, her stubbornness flared up.
"Even if I get hurt, 'll accept it," she said. "I'm not someone who can't let go. Even if it doesn't work out in the end, it's still my choice."
"You are delaying yourself," Callan said in a deep voice.
Joyce replied softly, "Maybe."
She understood the big picture.
If she were an observer, she would definitely advise her friends not to invest in such uncertain feelings.
But understanding was one thing, and actually doing it was another.
Joyce didn't know whether she was right or wrong.
Or perhaps there was no right or wrong in relationships.
Some people wanted to pursue what they desired and left no regrets.
While others didn't want any instability in their lives.
No sides were wrong.
"Joyce."
"It's not like I must be with him," Joyce said.
"It's just that since i still like him and can't accept anyone else, I'll just go with the flow."
Hearing her say she "can't accept anyone else" made Callan's heart ache.
In fact, he had liked Joyce for a long time.
But he knew Joyce didn't like him.
So he never had the courage to confess his feelings.
Now he knew that Joyce didn't see him as anything more than a friend.
The green light came on, but Callan didn't notice.
It was only when the car behind honked that he started the car.
The car stopped downstairs at Joyce's place.
After saying goodbye to Callan, she got out of the car.
Callan watched her go into the building but didn't leave immediately. Instead, he took out his phone and made a call.
"Hello? I need a favor."
"I need someone taken care of."
The next morning, Adeline felt as if last night's events were just a dream.
She couldn't help but rub her face to wake herself up.
She still had to go to the office, and she
wondered how she would face Harrison if she remained in this state.
At least at work, he was her superior, and she still had to perform her duties well.
After washing her face with cold water, Adeline felt much clearer-headed.
She grabbed a quick bite and headed to the office.
However, she was surprised to find Eleanor already there, sitting in the president's office.
When she saw Adeline, Eleanor's demeanor was far from pleasant.
But Adeline chose to ignore her.
Since her relationship with Eleanor was unlikely to improve, there was no need for pleasantries.
Adeline went to her desk and started working.
She could feel Eleanor's intense gaze on her.
However, Adeline continued to avoid looking at Eleanor.
Someone from the office boldly approached
Eleanor and asked, "Ms. Fraser, why are you here so early today?"
Eleanor forced a smile and said, "The photos from yesterday weren't finished. Since I have nothing to do today, I came early to prepare, to avoid any issues during the shoot."
"I see. You're truly dedicated," the person flattered before going back to their work.
Despite the flattery, Eleanor felt unsettled.
She wasn't dedicated at all. She was being pressured by Amber.
Amber had overheard her phone conversation and had kept her on edge.
Last night, Amber sent Eleanor a message demanding money, insisting Eleanor personally deliver her bank card to the Thomson Group today and be there in the morning.
Eleanor knew Amber was deliberately making things difficult for her.
But Eleanor had no choice.
Since Amber had leverage over her, she had no Since Amber had leverage over her, she had no choice but to comply.
