Chapter 242: Lead You Astray
Adeline thought, "The man seems a bit familiar. Isn't he the young man I saw in Marifort City before? He looks a lot like me."
But back then in Marifort City, Adeline only caught a brief glimpse.
Now, seeing him up close, Adeline felt that they did look alike.
The man was also taken aback when he saw
Adeline's face.
"You..." He instinctively wanted to say something but realized that staring at a woman like this was impolite. He quickly looked away and said softly, "Sorry."
"It's alright," Adeline said. "Which floor are you going to?"
She understood because most people couldn't help but take a closer look when they saw someone who looked like them.
"The seventh floor, thanks."
Adeline pressed the button for the seventh floor.
When they reached the seventh floor, the man nodded to her and left.
As the elevator continued upward, Adeline suddenly felt curious about who that man was.
Judging by his clothing and demeanor, he must be wealthy or influential. But she knew most of the entrepreneurs and rich men in the country, but she didn't recognize him.
Besides, Adeline last saw him in Marifort City.
She thought, "How did he end up here?"
However, Adeline quickly put this out of her mind. After all, she didn't know this man, and although it was surprising they looked alike, she had no reason to dwell on a stranger's background.
When Adeline arrived at Sam's ward, she noticed there was another woman there besides Harrison.
The woman, heavily made-up, was sitting by Sam's bed, crying and acting affectionately toward him.
"How did you end up in the hospital? And you
didn't let me visit you. If I hadn't inquired about your whereabouts, would you
have waited until you were discharged to see me?"
Sam smirked and said, "Darling, why are you crying? I'm safe and sound, aren't I? Besides, the reason I didn't want you to visit was simply that I was afraid you might run into my parents. They wouldn't be happy to see you."
The woman looked embarrassed and couldn't help but glance at Harrison, who was sitting on the sofa.
At this moment, she noticed Adeline walking in.
She instantly became alert.
Knowing Sam was a playboy who switched girlfriends frequently, and since she had just managed to get close to him but couldn't see him often due to his injury, the woman assumed this Adeline might be another of Sam's romantic interests.
However, just then, Sam smiled and said, "Miss Hensley, you're here."
The woman quickly figured it out.
She thought, "Since Sam referred to her as Miss Hensley, she must be Harrison's secretary."
Her heart eased a bit, and she was relieved she hadn't directly insulted Adeline, or she might have offended Harrison.
Adeline smiled and nodded at Sam, asking, "How are you feeling today, Mr. Juarez?"
"I'm doing well, just that the wound keeps hurting, but that's to be expected."
"Then let's distract you with something else," Adeline said. "How about I recommend a few movies?"
"Sure." Sam added, glancing at Harrison, "No, better not. If you keep ignoring
someone, he might hold a grudge against me."
"I'm not that narrow-minded," Harrison said quietly.
"Alright, Miss Hensley, go ahead. Just ignore him," Sam said.
"You don't want to get better," Harrison said.
"Tsk, you're so fierce," Sam replied.
Adeline laughed at their banter and sat down on the sofa next to Harrison.
"Is Lacey awake?" Harrison asked.
"Yes, she just woke up, talked with us for a bit, and then fell asleep again."
Harrison nodded.
The woman beside Sam seemed eager to get closer to Adeline. Hearing their conversation, she asked, "Are any of Miss Hensley's family members hospitalized here? I have connections in this hospital, so if you need any help, just let me know."
Adeline smiled politely and was about to respond when Sam said, "You're overthinking it. What could Miss Hensley need help with? If there was something, she wouldn't need you."
The woman wasn't offended and said, "More friends, more help, right? Miss Hensley, since we met here, it must be fate bringing us together.
Let's exchange contact details so we can stay in touch."
Since she was associated with Sam, Adeline couldn't refuse.
Besides, Adeline had plenty of contacts in her messaging app, so one more wouldn't make a difference, and she agreed.
After exchanging contact details, Sam snorted and said, "You know how to seize every opportunity."
The woman laughed and said, "You might dump me someday, so I need to grab every chance | get."
"Tsk, I like you because you're sensible. I'll consider delaying dumping you," Sam said.
"Thank you, Mr. Juarez."
Adeline was speechless.
She once again confirmed that Sam and Joyce were from completely different worlds.
As she thought this, a warm hand suddenly covered her eyes.
"What's going on?" she asked.
"Don't look," Harrison said softly. "Don't let him corrupt you."
Adeline couldn't help but smile and heard Sam's indignant voice. "Harrison, you're being unreasonable. I'm still here."
Meanwhile, the young man who looked so much like Adeline and whom she met in the elevator was in a single patient room on the seventh floor.
A middle-aged man was lying in bed receiving an IV drip, looking at him as if seeing a savior.
"My dear nephew, you're finally here, the man said anxiously. "You must help me, or my company is doomed."
This young man was Alberto Mendoza.
He looked at the middle-aged man in the bed and asked lightly, "Isn't the Aprico Group always doing well? How did things end up like this?"
The middle-aged man's gaze wandered, and after a while, he said, "It's Harrison. He sees the Aprico Group as a competitor to the Thomson Group, so recently he's been trying every possible way to suppress us." Alberto frowned.
"If you don't help me, the Aprico Group will surely be acquired by the Thomson Group. By then, all my efforts will be ruined. Alberto, we're family. You must help me..."
Alberto did not immediately agree but pondered it.
