Chapter 211: Adeline's Mother

Mateo began to tremble violently.

Previously, he had incurred more debt, and since Adeline didn’t help him, he had to resort to loan sharks.

When he borrowed money, those people promised he could, / it back in six months.

But it wasn't long before they started chasing him for repayment.

Mateo couldn't possibly pay them back.

After borrowing from the loan sharks, he used the remaining amount to gamble and lost everything.

The loan sharks were pursuing him relentlessly, and he didn't even dare to go home. He had been homeless for several days.

Today, Mateo couldn't hold back anymore, so he came to the Thomson Group to find Adeline.

If Adeline didn't help him, he would make a scene.

The bigger the scene, the better, to let everyone at the Thomson Group know that

Adeline pandoned her father.

"Adeline, Adeline..." Mateo's voice trembled as he said, "I know I've wronged you in the past, but I raised you, didn't su can't be so heartless."

However, his words stirred no emotions in Adeline.

Her happy childhood life ended the dav her mother died.

Mateo brought Janiyah and Millie into their lives, disregarding the grievances she suffered, and sometimes even helped them scold Adeline.

As for material support, he didn't let her starve, but after helping him repay so many gambling debts, Adeline had long since paid back what she owed Mateo.

Harrison could tell from Adeline's expression that she felt no compassion for Mateo.

So he told a few subordinates, "Take him away and put some distance between us."

"Yes, Mr. Thomson."

A few subordinates planned to drag Mateo away.

Mateo panicked. If he didn't pay off the loan sharks soon, they might really kill him.

Ever aside from that, he was broke now and needed money for food.

Mateo steeled himself and shouted, "Adeline. I have a secrets about your mom."

Adeline furrowed her brow and quickly told the subordinates, "Stop for a moment."

Mateo secretly breathed a sigh elief.

He knew that as long as it was about her mother, Adeline would have to listen.

But he wasn t lying.

He truly had a secret he had kept from Adeline for many years.

"What secret?" Adeline asked.

"Do you think l'm a fool? You give me money first, and I'll tell you," Mateo said.

"Otherwise, once I tell you, you'll just kick me out."

"Forget it. After all, I can't judge whether your so-called secret is true or not."

1g that he hadn't achieved his desired effect,

Mateo grew anxious.

"This is about your mom. Don't you want to know? This s et is very important to you."

Just then, Harrison suddenly stepped forward.

He stopped right in front of Mateo.

Mateo felt his scalp tingle and n't dare to look up and meet Harrison's gaze.

"Don't worry," Harrison said. "I have plenty of ways to make you talk."

Those simple words sent chills down Mateo's spine.

"Mr. Thomson, why do you have to do this?" Mateo stammered. "You're so wealthy. What difference would it make to give me a little?"

Harrison scoffed coldly and dismissed his words, simply saying, "Look at you, you've got a lot of debts and are hiding from your creditors, right?"

Mateo was too scared to speak.

At this moment, Adeline stepped forward.

"Even if you don't speak, we'll soon find out who creditors are," she said. "If we call them and hand you over, what do you think will happen to you?"

"You can't do his," Mateo screamed. "You're just watching me die."

"Fine, I won't do that," Adeline laughed.

"Then tell me your so-called secret."

Mateo was speechless.

He never expected Adeline to see through his bluff and turn the tables on him.

He had essentially dug his own grave.

"Are you not going to speak?" Harrison said coldly. "Then I'll have someone check who your creditors really are."

Saying this, he took out his phone.

"No, don't. You can't hand me over to them," Mateo cried in terror. "I'll tell you. I'll tell you."

He glanced around and said, "Actually, you're not biological child."

Adeline was momentarily stunned and then said  "If you're going to lie, at least do it

convincingly. Do you think I would believe such a clumsy lie?"

From the moment she could remember, her

mother had given her all her love.

Moreover, many relatives had said Adeline looked a lot like her mother.

How could Adeline not be her mother's biological child?

Mateo would say anything for money.

"What I said is true," Mateo insisted. "You were never your mother's biological child. Your aunt knows about this too. You can go ask her if you don't believe me."

Adeline's heart tightened suddenly.

Lacey would never lie to her. Mateo knew that too.

Yet he had the audacity to say she should ask Lacey.

Adeline thought, "Could it be... No, this isn't possible."

Looking at Adeline's expression, Mateo grinned strangely. "Actually, your biological mother was a girlfriend I had when I was young. At that time, we were young and in love. We couldn't resist and... Late le got pregnant. I initially wanted her to have an abortion, but she secretly had you and then dumped you on me, disappearing without a trace."

Adeline stared intently at Mateo. From his face, there was no indication he was lying.

However, Mateo was known for his deceit.

His acting was always convincing when he lied, so she couldn't trust him easily.

Adeline thought, "So, what about me and my mother?"

Harrison noticed Adeline's expression and frowned slightly. He told his subordinates, "Take him away and keep a close watch on him."

Hearing this, Mateo sighed with relief.

To be honest, Mateo was hoping for this.

Although he hadn't been able to get money from Adeline, if Harrison's people were watching him, then his creditors wouldn't dare to come after Mateo.

After Mateo was taken away, Harrison looked at Adeline with concern and asked, "Are you alright?"

"I need to ask my aunt," Adeline said.

She didn't want to believe Mateo's words, but a seed of doubt had been planted in her heart.

So she wanted to ask Lacey for clarification.

"Okay," Harrison said. "Do you want to go to the hospital?"

Adeline hesitated for a moment and said, "No, I'll just call her.'
