Chapter 186: Confession
At that moment, Adeline felt as though she could sense nothing but Harrison.
She could only see him and hear his voice.
"I..." She opened her mouth but didn't know what to say.
Harrison, however, clearly wasn't planning to let her off easily.
"Is it me?" he asked again.
His persistent questioning made Adeline's emotional defenses crumble completely.
She admitted that at this moment, she was
powerless to resist.
Closing her eyes, she whispered, "It's you."
Harrison had already realized this long ago.
But hearing her say "it's you" out loud still sent waves of shock through his heart.
"It's me? The person you liked years ago is me?"
"It's you." Adeline resigned herself.
Since he already knew, denying it would be pointless.
As soon as she finished speaking, she suddenly felt like her feet were off the ground.
Looking down, she realized Harrison had picked her up.
And Harrison even spun her around.
"Put me down, Harrison!" Adeline said, her face flushed red, looking around in panic.
Fortunately, the hallway was empty at that moment.
Harrison was indeed almost giddy with joy.
So she had liked him for a long time.
"Harrison, put me down!" Adeline's scolding finally made Harrison calm down a bit.
He gently put her down but kept his arms tightly around her waist.
"Why didn't you tell me earlier?" he asked, his breath still heavy.
Adeline lowered her gaze and said, "If I had told you then, you would have immediately fired me."
Harrison was momentarily speechless.
Indeed, if he had known that Adeline had feelings for him back then, he would have immediately asked her to leave.
If that had happened, they might have missed out on each other for a lifetime.
"It's not too late to know now," he said quickly.
"I..."
"Let's talk inside," Adeline said, her face red.
They were still in the hallway, and anyone could walk by at any moment.
Harrison had to suppress his excitement and obediently followed Adeline into the apartment.
Once inside, Adeline bent down to fetch a pair of new slippers for him.
"Change into these first."
Harrison changed into the slippers obediently.
"Sit on the sofa. I'll get some water."
Harrison sat on the sofa as told, watching
Adeline as she got water.
Adeline, drinking the water, suddenly felt like laughing.
She could hardly believe that she now had the power to give orders to Harrison.
And he followed them obediently.
If the previous Adeline had seen this scene, she would have found it quite startling.
After drinking water, Adeline sat down opposite Harrison.
The intimate atmosphere between them suddenly turned into a strange silence.
After a while, they both spoke at the same time, "You..."
"You.."
Adeline was momentarily stunned and then said, "You go first."
"No, you go first," Harrison said.
Adeline didn't insist further and began, "I didn't actually fall asleep in the car."
Speaking with someone intelligent was effortless.
Harrison immediately understood what she meant.
She had heard his call with Myra.
Harrison was silent for a moment before saying, "I'm sorry. My mother's views have been formed for many years and won't change easily."
Adeline shook her head and said with a bitter smile, "We come from different worlds."
Harrison, however, said calmly, "So what?"
Adeline was surprised by his response.
"I am willing to join your world," he said seriously, looking at her. "Likewise, I welcome you into my world, if you're willing."
His words stirred Adeline's heart.
She thought she was willing to trust him.
Even if it meant hurting herself and not knowing what the future held, she was willing to trust him.
Harrison stood up and sat beside her, gently brushing a strand of hair away from her face.
"I will definitely give you a future. Wait for me."
As he spoke, his gaze fell on her red lips.
However, after a moment's hesitation, he lightly kissed her forehead.
He understood her concerns.
Until he was sure there were no more obstacles between them, he wouldn't cross any boundaries out of respect for her.
Harrison then got up and left.
As the door closed, Adeline came back to her senses.
She could still feel the warmth of his lips on her forehead.
Her cheeks flushed with a rosy hue.
She grabbed a pillow and hugged it, suddenly recalling the wishes she had written on the wish wall in the noodle shop.
Back then, she never thought that someday her wishes might come true.
Sam, Joyce, and Callan had stayed at the bar until very late.
As the bar was almost empty, Callan couldn't help but say to Joyce, "I'll take you home. You still have work tomorrow."
Joyce waved her hand nonchalantly and said, "It's Okay. The magazine isn't busy right now, and I still have several days of annual leave left. I can take a half-day off tomorrow."
She had chatted a lot with Sam tonight and was enjoying herself, not wanting to leave.
Sam didn't mind. He was used to staying up late.
But seeing that Joyce was a bit drunk, he smiled and said, "It's indeed quite late. Mr. Crawford should stay at the bar. I'll take her home."
At Sam's words, Callan's expression darkened.
However, Callan maintained a calm demeanor and said with a smile, "The bar has someone to watch over it. It's fine for me to leave for a while. I know Joyce better, so I should take her home."
Sam was perceptive. After spending the night, he could tell that Callan had feelings for Joyce.
Although Sam had some feelings for Joyce too, it wasn't strong enough to compete.
Since Callan insisted, Sam didn't argue further.
He nodded slightly, said goodbye to Joyce, and left.
Joyce was a bit drunk but not completely irrational.
Despite her reluctance, she didn't show it in front of Sam, only watching his back as he left the bar.
At that moment, a deep male voice suddenly sounded beside her.
"He's not suitable for you."
Joyce was startled and turned to look at Callan.
She blinked and said, "You misunderstood. I don't have any feelings for him."
Callan smiled wryly and said, "Joyce, do you think you can hide this from me?"
