Chapter 185: Do You Like Me?
Compared to Myra's agitation, Harrison remained quite calm.
"Mom, you should know that after I turned five, you could no longer control my life," he said.
Myra, being a refined lady, quickly regained her composure after her initial agitation.
"I know I can't control you. You're my child, and I understand you," Myra said. "But as your mother, I won't harm you. Are you willing to sever ties with me for that woman?"
"I have no intention of severing ties with you," Harrison said.
As he spoke, Adeline's eyelashes fluttered.
Harrison continued, "So I hope you can understand that sometimes what you think is good for me doesn't make me happy."
Myra was silent for a long time before hanging up the phone.
But based on Harrison's understanding of her, he knew she wouldn't just let this go easily.
He turned to Adeline, his eyes gentle but tinged with sadness.
He wouldn't let Myra control him, but she was his mother, someone close to him.
Adeline was the one he loved deeply.
Balancing the relationship between them would depend on him.
As the car approached Adeline's place, Harrison gently woke her.
"Wake up, Adeline."
With the cold weather, he was worried she might catch a cold if she got out of the car right after waking up, so he woke her early.
Adeline slowly opened her eyes and met his gaze before quickly looking away.
She hadn't actually fallen asleep.
She had been a bit drowsy before, but when she heard him on the phone, she was fully awake.
She knew the call was from Myra.
Although she didn't hear what Myra said, from Harrison's words, she could roughly guess the content.
Myra even used the word "sever" in reference to their relationship.
It was clear that Myra's dislike for Adeline was growing.
If Myra disliked her for other reasons, Adeline could still try to make an effort for Harrison.
But Myra's dislike was based on Adeline's background.
How could her background change?
With a heavy heart, Adeline nearly tripped as she got out of the car, but Harrison caught her in time.
"Still feeling the effects of the alcohol?" Harrison frowned slightly. "You knew you couldn't handle it, yet you drank so much."
"Actually, my tolerance for alcohol is quite good," Adeline said softly.
"That doesn't mean you should drink recklessly," Harrison said sternly. "Especially when I'm not around."
Adeline turned her head slightly.
Harrison couldn't see her expression clearly.
He continued, "And you told me to drink less, yet you went to a bar."
"I don't go there every day," Adeline said with some grievance.
Hearing her tone of grievance softened
Harrison's heart.
"Next time you want to go out, take me with you. I'll go with you."
His firm tone and gaze left Adeline unable to refuse.
Her heart was stirred by his words, unable to remain calm.
At that moment, she suddenly felt an urge to hold him tightly.
Just as she was about to raise her hand, a cold wind blew, making her shiver and clear-headed again.
Harrison didn't notice the change in her emotions. He just saw her shiver and immediately frowned.
"Are you cold?"
He instinctively took off his coat and draped it over her.
After completing the gesture smoothly, he realized that they were now downstairs at her place, and he could have taken her inside right away.
But seeing her shiver made him only think about keeping her warm with his coat.
Adeline looked at the coat on her and couldn't help but smile.
"I'm about to go inside."
"I know," Harrison said with feigned calmness.
"I'm just worried that the short walk to the door might be too cold."
Adeline was speechless.
The distance to the entrance of her building was only a few steps.
Adeline thought, "When did Harrison become so cute?"
"Thank you, Mr. Thomson," Adeline said, her tone unconsciously mixed with affection.
"With you here, I definitely won't feel cold."
The back of Harrison's ears turned slightly red.
Fortunately, it was evening, so the redness wasn't too obvious, and Adeline didn't notice.
"How could you not be cold standing outside?" he said, frowning. "Hurry up and go inside."
Adeline sensed a hint of embarrassment in his tone.
It seemed even more endearing.
"Okay, I'll do as you say."
Harrison felt like she was trying to placate him like a child.
Adeline reached the entrance of the building.
Harrison followed her.
She took off the coat he had draped over her and handed it back.
"Put it on. It's cold."
"I'll take you upstairs," Harrison said, taking the coat with a serious face.
After all, she almost tripped when getting out of the car, so he was very worried.
Adeline didn't object.
They took the elevator together and arrived at Adeline's door.
"I'm here," Adeline said to Harrison as she turned.
She turned and looked into Harrison's eyes.
His eyes seemed to contain endless tenderness.
But within that tenderness was a burning emotion, seemingly capable of burning away all her rationality.
"I'll go in first," Adeline instinctively wanted to escape, but Harrison grabbed her wrist.
The warmth of his palm seemed to reach her
heart.
Adeline's hand trembled slightly. She wanted to struggle but felt too weak to do so.
"Let go of me..."
"I saw what you wrote on the wish wall," Harrison said.
He hadn't intended to bring it up.
But on the way to her home, he suddenly felt the urge to clear things up.
Even if she didn't admit it, it didn't matter.
He wouldn't mistake her handwriting, even if it was from years ago.
Hearing his words, Adeline was stunned.
She wanted to deny it, to hide her emotions, but she felt that denying it in front of Harrison would be futile.
"How did you see it?" Adeline said with a bitter smile, "That was written years ago, and with so many wishes on there, even I might not be able to find it, let alone you."
"Maybe it's destiny." Harrison gazed at her.
"Can you tell me who the person you like is?"
Adeline's heart began to race.
Adeline thought, "Who else could it be? It was of course you."
But how could she say that to his face?
She remained silent, but Harrison was unwilling to give up and asked, "Is it me?"
