One night stand with my president (chapter 258)

Chapter 258: You Can Take a Joke

In reality, the relationship between Adeline and Harrison was indeed special.

But Adeline was in her current position solely because of her own work skills.

Harrison wouldn't promote someone just for their looks. So Jason and Abbie were being ridiculous.

However, Adeline wasn't angry at what these two had said.

After all, she had heard similar comments many times over the years.

Getting upset over such things would only be torturing herself.

So Adeline just smiled faintly and said, "While I've never cared about leveraging my appearance for work, I appreciate your compliments on it."

Abbie was infuriated and was about to say something more when Adeline continued, "And, by the way, are you suggesting that Mr. Thomson is unfair in his dealings? If you're questioning Mr. Thomson's character, we can discuss how to handle this properly, and if necessary, we can take legal action.”

Throughout, Adeline remained calm and even had a faint smile on her face.

But Jason and Abbie were visibly frightened, their faces turning pale.

Abbie said, "Why are you saying this? That wasn't our intention.."

Jason said, "Yeah, we were just making a joke. We haven't seen each other in a long time. Isn't it fine to make a joke?"

Adeline nodded and said, "Well, your mouths are quite unrestrained."

Abbie said, "What did you say? You..."

Adeline lifted her glass and smiled, "Just a joke. We haven't seen each other in ages. Surely, you can handle a small joke, right?"

Jason's and Abbie's faces turned red with embarrassment.

They had no choice. They had made the first move with their joke.

Getting upset with Adeline now would only mean shooting themselves in the foot.

"Alright, we have so many classmates here today. Don't just focus on chatting with each other, help us out, Okay?" Hannah laughed and tried to mediate.

Others also chimed in, and the topic was quickly changed

However, it was clear to anyone that Adeline was handling things gracefully, while Jason and Abbie were looking for trouble.

After a while, Adeline's high school desk mate arrived.

They had been quite close in high school, and since there was an empty seat next to Adeline, her desk mate sat beside her.

As soon as she sat down, she poured herself a glass of water and drank it quickly.

"Slow down," Adeline said. "Why are you so thirsty?"

"Oh, I just came straight from a meeting at work and rushed over here without even having a sip of water," her desk mate said, panting. "And why was Hannah in such a rush to organize this reunion? She only told us yesterday that it was happening today."

"Maybe everyone missed each other too much, and they're eager to catch up," Adeline said with a smile.

"They? Who else is involved? I thought Hannah was organizing it alone," her desk mate said casually.

"She organized it alone? No one else was involved?" Adeline asked.

"From what I heard, Hannah was the only one who contacted everyone. I haven't heard of anyone else."

Adeline recalled that when Hannah called her yesterday, she mentioned "we want to organize a reunion."

Adeline thought, "So, it turns out this reunion was organized solely by Hannah. But was she just making a casual remark, or is there more to it?"

Adeline turned to look at Hannah.

As soon as she turned, she saw Hannah watching her with a thoughtful expression.

Noticing Adeline's gaze, Hannah quickly put on a natural smile.

Adeline smiled back at her.

The waiter brought out the dishes, and everyone began eating and chatting.

Jason and Abbie still tried to flaunt their wealth, but with Adeline around, no one was paying much attention to them.

Although Adeline wasn't wearing any designer brands, she was the closest person to Harrison.

No one could be richer than the Thomson family.

Jason and Abbie were fuming.

Jason gave Abbie a knowing look, and Abbie, understanding, discreetly poured a little wine on her diamond ring and made an exaggerated "oh no" sound.

"What's wrong?" Naturally, many people's attention was drawn to her.

"I accidentally spilled some wine on the ring," while wiping it.

"It's not a big deal, but when I bought it, I was told it's best not to let the diamond come into contact with alcohol."

As she spoke, people's eyes were drawn to her diamond ring again.

"This diamond always looks so beautiful," one classmate remarked.

"Of course! It's from the W.L.ITE brand. Of course it is beautiful," Jason said proudly. "And it's custom-made by me."

Adeline hadn't paid much attention until she heard Jason's comment. She was momentarily taken aback.

"W.L.ITE? Custom-made?" she asked.

W.L.ITE was a very famous jewelry brand from Lubrea.

Their jewelry was expensive and limited in quantity. Sometimes, even having money didn't guarantee a purchase.

Abbie thought Adeline was envious and said, smugly, "Of course. By the way, Adeline, do you want to take a closer look? Even though you're Mr. Thomson's chief secretary, your salary probably can't afford such expensive jewelry, right?"

As she spoke, Abbie waved her hand with the ring in front of Adeline.

Adeline had only asked out of curiosity and didn't intend to say much.

But since Abbie was acting like this, Adeline wouldn't hold back.

Adeline smiled lightly and said, "It's just that a while ago, the Thomson Group had a collaboration with W.L.ITE, and I met their director with Mr. Thomson. During our conversation, their director mentioned that W.L.ITE hasn't taken any custom jewelry orders for the past three years and won't be accepting any for the next five."

As soon as Adeline said that, Jason and Abbie's expressions changed instantly.

The expressions on the other classmates' faces were equally interesting.

Someone couldn't help but whisper, "They’ve been bragging all this time, and it turns out to be fake..."

Jason hurriedly tried to cover up, saying, "Oh, I must have remembered wrong. This ring wasn't custom-made, but it's definitely from W.L.ITE."

"And it's a new model from this year," Abbie quickly added.

It would have been better if she hadn't said that.

As soon as she did, Adeline smiled again and said, "W.L.ITE hasn't released a new diamond ring in two years. The only new models in the past two years were necklaces, earrings, and ruby rings."

Finally, someone couldn't hold back and let out a soft chuckle.

Jason and Abbie were dying of embarrassment, wishing they could disappear on the spot.

"Oh, now I remember. Actually, this diamond ring isn't from W.L.ITE. It's from another major brand.

We must've mixed it up," Jason said, struggling to maintain composure.

However, by now, no one believed a word they said.

One woman whispered, "I thought Abbie's bag looked fake. My sister has a genuine one, and it has a little clasp on it. Abbie's bag doesn't. I thought I just hadn't noticed the details, but now it seems..."

  2. When one is trying to advertise fake lifestyle, do it where there are not people with focus or you will find yourself being embarrassed by how much they know even more than you.
