Chapter 209: Don't Use Your Tactics
Eleanor was extremely uneasy, feeling as if she were sitting on pins and needles.
She thought, "How did Lorenzo find out about me and Lance? Has he already sent someone abroad to investigate me?"
She forced herself to calm down, analyzing the current situation in her mind.
Since Lorenzo mentioned the Tillman family, it meant he already knew a lot.
Denying it outright would be useless now.
So, she forced a smile and said, "Are you referring to Lance? I did have a good relationship with him, and he helped me quite a bit while I was developing my career abroad. But everyone has their own life. I'm returning to my country, and it's not really about whether he can bear it or not, right?"
"Ms. Fraser." Lorenzo poured a cup of hot coffee into the cup in front of her, saying, calmly, "There's no need to say such things."
Eleanor made one last attempt. "I don't understand what you're talking about. Lance and I are really just ordinary friends."
"Then let me say something you can understand," Lorenzo said. "From now on, stay away from Harrison."
Eleanor's mind buzzed at his words.
She shouldn't have come here today.
Both Myra and Lorenzo said the same thing to her.
"I know you still have business dealings with the Thomson Group," Lorenzo said. "Don't worry, the benefits you were promised won't be taken away. For future collaborations, the Thomson Group will assign someone to liaise with you. There's no need for you to meet with Harrison."
"You can't do that. You can't," Eleanor said, growing agitated. "I... Lance and I were really just ordinary friends abroad. Please believe me. Maybe there's some misunderstanding."
Lorenzo raised his hand slightly, stopping her from speaking further.
"Actually, what happened abroad isn't the main issue," he said. "It's just that you have poor character. So, I don't want my grandson to have any further contact with someone like you."
His words were brutally frank.
Eleanor couldn't stop herself from trembling.
"I've heard about many things you've done since you returned to the country," Lorenzo said calmly. "I already have a good understanding of what kind of person you are."
"You must have misunderstood me," Eleanor said.
"I'll judge that for myself," Lorenzo said, looking at her coldly. "I also know what you said to Harrison's mother earlier downstairs."
Eleanor was deeply frightened.
She wasn't too afraid of Myra.
But now, it was Lorenzo who was saying these things to her.
Lorenzo, despite his age and seeming inactivity, was truly sharp and perceptive.
Eleanor said, "When I first returned to the country, it was Harrison who came to pick me up. He reached out to me..."
"I'm aware of that," Lorenzo said. "But you were the one who called him first, right? The only reason he agreed to pick you up was to discuss business, wasn't it? And he made it clear from the start that no matter what happened, your relationship with him would only be strictly professional. You agreed to that too, didn't you?"
Eleanor's heart sank deeper and deeper.
Lorenzo knew everything.
"From the beginning of the collaboration until now, the Thomson Group has never
shortchanged you, and it never will. But I think if Harrison knew how untrustworthy you are, he wouldn't have chosen you as his business partner."
What Eleanor was most worried about now was whether Lorenzo knew about her involvement in Amber's death.
But since Lorenzo didn't mention it, he probably didn't know.
After all, the incident was unexpected, and Lance had handled it very discreetly.
Even though Lorenzo could have found out about her and Lance's affairs abroad, it wasn't as if a murder case would be linked to them.
Thinking this, Eleanor felt a slight relief.
She lowered her head and said meekly, "I did make some mistakes before, but please believe me, I'll change. I'll prove it to you."
"No need. I'm not interested," Lorenzo said.
"Oh, and one more thing. Ms. Hensley is close to Harrison. Don't use your dirty tricks on her again. Otherwise, I won't hesitate to send you back to Mugroaton."
Eleanor hadn't expected Lorenzo to protect
Adeline too.
Eleanor wondered, "What is so special about Adeline? How could even Lorenzo be on her side?"
Eleanor said, "I don't have any ill intentions toward Ms. Hensley..."
"You may leave now."
It was clear that Lorenzo had no interest in hearing Eleanor's excuses.
Eleanor wanted to stay and argue, but she didn't dare anger Lorenzo, so she quietly said goodbye and then left the study.
After stepping out of the study, her expression darkened immediately.
She glared coldly at the study door for a long time before finally walking away.
Harrison had someone investigate Eleanor's connections abroad, and they quickly found out about Lance.
"The report shows that Lance is the second child of the Tillman family, a well-known and powerful family in Mugroaton," Adeline said as she went through the information. "Many of Eleanor's resources in Mugroaton were provided by Lance."
"So it's the Tillman family," Harrison said. "No wonder they were able to elevate Eleanor to such heights."
Even though Lance was only the second son and not the heir of the Tillman family, it was enough to make a star out of someone.
Adeline said, "But Eleanor was doing well in Mugroaton. Why did she suddenly come back home?"
Adeline hadn't finished her sentence when she suddenly realized something and looked at Harrison.
Harrison looked innocent. "I don't know. I have no idea. It has nothing to do with me."
"I didn't say anything yet." Adeline smiled slightly.
"What are you nervous about?"
"Am I nervous? No, I'm not."
Harrison touched his nose and then tried to change the subject. "I'll have someone look into Lance's recent activities. Since Eleanor has returned, maybe he'll follow her. If he's helping Eleanor..."
He didn't finish his sentence, but Adeline knew what he meant.
Both of them now suspected that Eleanor and Lance were involved.
Although it was the police's job to catch the murderer, this situation had now affected Myra.
And they were worried that the murderer might hurt the people around them.
So it was better to investigate thoroughly.
"Yes, we should look into him."
After saying this, Adeline raised her hand to rub her temples.
"Tired?" Harrison asked with concern. "Why don't you rest for a bit?"
They were currently in Harrison's office.
Harrison wanted Adeline to go rest in the lounge.
She probably hadn't slept well at the hospital last night, and with everything that had happened with Amber today, she must have been exhausted.
"I'm fine," Adeline said.
But when Harrison mentioned the lounge, she suddenly remembered the box she had once seen in the closet.
