Chapter 228: Want to See Her
"Even if it's not serious, you still need to take care of it," Harrison said.
Perhaps surprised that Harrison would say something like this to him, Russell gave him a puzzled look.
"Once your injury is healed, let's find a time to compete," Harrison added.
"Compete in what?"
"You decide."
Hearing this, Russell let out a light laugh.
"Okay."
The two didn't say much more and parted ways.
Russell left the hospital and got into his car.
When he pulled out his phone, he saw dozens of missed calls and unread messages.
He had put his phone on silent when he came to the hospital, so he didn't hear any notifications.
Aside from a few messages from people at work, the rest were all from Rogelio, including the calls.
Russell casually picked a couple of messages to read.
Rogelio, [Russell, I know you're angry with me and your aunt, but it's normal for us to develop feelings for each other after your mother's death when we were both grieving.]
(Rogelio, Over the years, we have both wanted children, but your aunt has always considered your feelings and didn't want to hurt you, which is why we haven't had any.
But now she's almost forty, and if she doesn't have children soon, she may never have them.)
Rogelio, [I know it's hard for you to accept that you are having a younger brother or sister. But I promise you. He or she will never compete with you for the Hunter family fortune.]
Seeing this message, Russell let out a bleak laugh.
Rogelio still thought he was angry because he was afraid the Hunter family's fortune would be taken away.
It was too ironic.
Russell didn't want to reply to any of them.
He leaned back in his seat and closed his eyes for a moment, suddenly recalling Adeline's face.
He wanted to see her.
But going to find her right now would disturb her.
So Russell just had the driver take him to Adeline's building.
Then, he raised his head and silently looked at the windows of Adeline's home.
At this time, the lights in Adeline's house were still on. She probably hadn't gone to sleep yet.
But Russell didn't go to find her. He just continued to watch quietly.
Even just looking at the lights in her house brought a slight warmth to his heart.
……
In the hospital, Harrison took the elevator to the floor where Sam's room was located.
As soon as he exited the elevator, he saw Joyce sitting on a bench next to the elevator.
If it were someone else, he might not have acknowledged her.
But Joyce was Adeline's close friend, so he called out, "Ms, Monroe."
Startled by his voice, Joyce quickly stood up, glanced at him, and then looked down, stuttering, "Mr. Thomson."
"Are you here to see Sam?" Harrison asked.
"Why are you sitting here?"
"I…” Joyce didn't know how to respond.
She did want to see Sam but was afraid of disturbing him, so she could only sit there.
Since she didn't say anything, Harrison didn't press her, "I'm going to see Sam too. Let's go together."
Since he said so, Joyce was more than happy to comply, The two walked together toward Sam's room.
………….
It wasn't too far, but Joyce felt a bit intimidated by Harrison, making the walk feel longer.
Finding the silence awkward, she asked, "What about Adeline? Isn't she coming with you?"
"She went home to rest," Harrison said.
Joyce said, "Oh." And then she didn't know what else to say.
Besides Adeline, there didn't seem to be much for her to talk about with Harrison.
However, Harrison spoke up again. "How long have you known Mr. Crawford?"
Joyce was taken aback for a moment and then replied, "Callan? Almost three years. He was my colleague before."
"Are you close with him?"
Joyce didn't understand why Harrison suddenly asked this but answered honestly, "We were pretty close when we were colleagues. After he resigned, we still occasionally kept in touch."
"When did he resign?"
"Well... let me think. It should be around two years ago."
(Two years ago...)
Ayden just told him that Callan was the one who went to find Jamarion and recognized him two years ago.
If Callan had recognized his wealthy and powerful father, there would be no need for him to continue working.
But it could also be a coincidence.
"Got it," Harrison said.
Joyce couldn't figure out why he suddenly brought up Callan.
They had reached the door to Sam's room.
She thought for a moment and finally mustered the courage to ask, "Mr. Thomson, why did you suddenly ask about this?"
Joyce thought, "Has Callan offended Harrison? So Harrison wants to get the scoop on him and deal with him?"
The more Joyce thought about it, the more anxious she became. Although she had some unpleasantness with Callan before, he was still Joyce's friend, and if he offended Harrison, it would be better for her to plead for him.
"It's nothing," Harrison said casually. "I just thought the bar he opened was nice, so I figured he must be a capable person and wanted to learn more about him."
His explanation seemed reasonable.
Joyce let out a sigh of relief and smiled, "He is quite capable. After resigning, he started his own business and made quite a bit of money."
Harrison didn't say anything further and pushed open the door to Sam's room.
Sam was playing on his phone. Mason wasn't there, and Regina was sitting by the bed keeping him company.
"Hey, Harrison, you're here."
As soon as he saw Harrison, Sam started grinning.
When he noticed Joyce entering with Harrison, he paused for a moment; then his smile turned polite.
"Ms. Monroe is here tee."
Joyce felt bitter inside but maintained her composure.
"Mr. Juarez, how are you feeling?"
"About the same," Sam said nonchalantly.
"I'm not going to die, just hurts a bit. I'll Just bear with it."
"Harrison, Ms. Monroe, please have a seat."
Regina invited them politely.
"Thank you, Mrs, Juarez," Joyce said.
"Don't call me Mrs, Juarez, That's too formal.
Since you're Sam's friend, just call me Regina," Regina said with a smile.
Joyce didn't expect Sam's mother to be so friendly, without a hint of arrogance.
She had previously interviewed a wealthy lady with a high opinien of herself, and that persen had treated them like slaves.
They had completed the interview with gritted teeth.
It was not easy to get along well with wealthy people. But now seeing Sam's mother, Joyce thought, "It seems not all wealthy ladies are like that."
*Okay, you all chat. I'll step out to buy something*
Regina knew the young people probably had their own topics to discuss, and with her there, they might not feel comfortable, so she found an excuse to leave.
