One night stand with my president (chapter 201)

Chapter 201: A Master of Disguise

Joyce knew Sam was joking to lighten the mood, but she still wanted to cry.

Luckily, she held back her tears and greeted Sam's parents and Harrison.

"Ms. Hensley, is this your friend?" Regina asked gently.

"Yes." Adeline nodded.

"Hello, Mrs. Juarez. I'm Joyce, and I work for a magazine," Joyce said.

Regina smiled and nodded.

After seeing Sam, Joyce felt it was inappropriate to stay longer, so she said her goodbyes and left.

Adeline walked her out, and as soon as they exited the room, Joyce's tears began to flow uncontrollably.

"Alright," Adeline said helplessly, pulling out tissues to wipe Joyce's tears. "I knew you'd be like this, but you actually managed to hold back in there. That must have been hard for you."

"Even though I prepared myself mentally before coming, his injuries are just too severe," Joyce cried. "Who could have done something so vicious? They clearly wanted him dead. It's a miracle he's still alive."

Adeline's eyes darkened.

What Joyce said was something Adeline was also aware of.

Others probably knew it in their hearts as well.

"It's already being investigated," Adeline said.

"Don't worry, with the Thomson and Juarez families' influence, it's only a matter of time before the culprit is found."

Joyce nodded and said, "I'll also ask around and see if I can find anything."

After all, Joyce worked at a magazine and had some connections.

"Alright, stop crying. Is it almost time for you to go to work?"

Ince caid "Vaah l'll take a cah aver in a hit"

Joyce said, "Yeah, I'll take a cab over in a bit."

Adeline and Joyce entered the elevator, and suddenly Joyce remembered something and said, "Oh, right, I ran into Callan when I arrived."

Adeline said, "Your friend who owns a bar?"

"Yeah... I think he came specifically to stop me from seeing Sam."

Adeline frowned and said, "If that's true, then his feelings for you are probably more than just friendship."

In fact, that night at the bar, Adeline had already sensed that Callan's feelings for Joyce were not ordinary.

Sometimes, those involved were blinded by emotions, while onlookers saw things more clearly.

But since she wasn't certain, Adeline hadn't mentioned it to Joyce.

After all, Joyce's thoughts were all focused on Sam at the moment.

"I have that feeling too, but then I think I might be overthinking it," Joyce said, frustrated, ruffling her hair. "How did it come to this? I don't have any feelings for him at all. I only see him as a friend."

At that moment, a bold guess suddenly crossed Adeline's mind.

However, she knew it would be irresponsible to voice a suspicion without evidence, so she didn't mention it to Joyce right away.

Instead, she said, "He should be able to tell that you don't like him. Plus, if he came to the hospital to stop you from seeing Sam, he probably knows you like Sam, right?"

"Yeah... When he took me home that night, he said he could tell, and he also said Sam and I aren't a good match," Joyce said sullenly.

"I see." Adeline nodded.

The elevator arrived on the first floor, and Adeline accompanied Joyce to the hospital entrance.

To their surprise, Callan was still there, waiting at the entrance.

When she saw him, Joyce's expression stiffened slightly.

"Why are you still here?" She asked instinctively.

"I'm waiting for you," Callan said.

He checked his watch and added, "Your work shift should be starting soon. I'll take you to the office."

"No need," Joyce said, waving her phone. "I already called a cab."

As soon as she finished speaking, a car pulled up to the curb.

Joyce glanced at the license plate and said,

"That's my ride. I gotta go, bye."

She said goodbye to Adeline and gave Callan a quick look, but ultimately said nothing and hurried to the car.

The driver quickly drove away.

Adeline didn't rush back to the hospital. She figured Callan would want to say something to her.

Callan turned to Adeline and said, "Ms. Hensley, you're Joyce's best friend, so you must know that she likes Sam."

"Yes, I do." Adeline didn't deny it.

"I hope you can talk to her," Callan said with a frown. "She and Sam are from completely different worlds."

Adeline said, "We all want her to be happy, but we should also consider whether what we think is best for her is what she truly wants."

Callan's expression darkened as he said, "Are you just going to watch Joyce get played by Sam?"

Adeline was silent for a moment, and then said, "I've talked with Joyce before. She said emotions can't be controlled. I understand that very well."

Callan's fingers tightened sharply.

He understood that very well too.

"Besides, Joyce knows what kind of person Sam • is," Adeline continued. "Even though she can be emotional at times, she's not so foolish as to be beyond help."

Callan said nothing more.

After a while, he said, "I have to go now."

"Wait," Adeline called out to him.

Callan stopped, a hint of confusion in his eyes as he looked at her.

"I know you like Joyce," Adeline said. "I'm sorry. I don't mean to pry into your private affairs. I just want to say that I hope you won't make an enemy of Sam because of Joyce. First, we don't want to see any of our friends get hurt again. Second, if she found out you two got hurt because of her, she'd be very guilty and upset."

At her words, Callan's expression remained unchanged as he simply replied, "Don't worry, Sam is the heir of the Juarez family. How could an ordinary person like me dare to make an enemy of him?"

After speaking, Callan turned and left.

Adeline also turned back to the hospital.

On her way back to Sam's room, Adeline kept recalling Callan's reactions.

She had no evidence and couldn't just ask Callan if he was behind Sam's attack. That would be too offensive.

So, she had said those things to test him.

But Callan's reactions seemed completely normal.

If he wasn't truly innocent, then he was simply too good at disguising it, perfect in his deception.

If it was the latter, then it meant this man was very dangerous.

After Adeline and Joyce left the room, Sam found an excuse to send his parents away too.

Now, only he and Harrison were left in the room.

"You have something to say to me?" Harrison asked.

"How did you know I wanted to talk to you?"

Sam chuckled. "Telepathy?"

"Stop fooling around. Just say it."

"I just remembered something," Sam said.
