Chapter 241:The Surgery Is Completed
Ronan looked dejected when he heard Adeline's words.
But soon, he said, "OK, I understand... I shouldn't pressure you like this."
"It's too cold out. You might get sick if you stay outside. Let me wheel you back," Adeline said.
Ronan shook his head and said, "You go ahead. Harrison is still waiting for you, and Isaline will come to accompany me back later."
Adeline nodded and reminded him not to stay outside for too long before leaving.
Harrison was already waiting for her in the car.
After Adeline got into the car, Harrison started the engine.
"Is he alright?" Harrison asked.
"He might not accept it quickly," Adeline sighed, "but I believe he will become strong."
She now just hoped that Milania would consider Ronan's feelings and stop acting recklessly.
"By the way, I've been so busy these past few days that I almost forgot to tell you that I need to take some time off this afternoon," Adeline said.
"Lacey is having surgery this afternoon."
"I know," Harrison replied. "I remember the date."
"You remember too?" Adeline asked, surprised.
"Of course. That's your aunt. How could I forget?"
Adeline didn't know what to say and felt warm.
In the afternoon, Lacey went into the operating room.
Adeline, Harrison, and other family members waited outside the operating room.
The surgery was expected to last over five hours.
Despite having experts perform the surgery, Adeline was still very anxious, waiting by the door.
Harrison stayed with her for the entire five hours.
During the wait, Adeline suggested he rest for a while, but Harrison refused to leave.
"I'm staying with you," he said.
With him by her side, Adeline felt a reassuring strength.
After over five hours, the surgery finally ended.
The doctor informed them that the surgery was very successful.
As long as Lacey took good care of herself afterward, she would recover soon.
Lacey's husband and children couldn't help but weep with joy when they heard that.
Adeline's eyes also turned red.
When Lacey woke up, she saw a crowd of people around her.
However, Harrison had already left.
He knew that once Lacey woke up, she would have to exchange some pleasantries if she saw him. Harrison didn't want her to get tired.
It was better for her to have her family by her side.
Besides, now that the surgery was successful, Adeline could finally relax.
Since Sam also stayed in this hospital, Harrison went to visit Sam.
When she saw her family around her bed, Lacey smiled lightly.
"It seems I'm still alive," she whispered.
"That's great."
"Mom, the doctor said the surgery was a success," Bianca said with a smile. "You'll recover soon, so don't worry."
Lacey nodded and asked, "Where is Adeline?"
"Lacey, I'm here," Adeline said.
She quickly moved forward and took Lacey's hand.
"Adeline, you're such a good child. You've been through a lot," Lacey said. "Do you know about what happened back then?"
"Yes, let's not talk about that right now," Adeline said. "You've just had surgery. Rest well."
"Adeline, don't blame your father. He's been your father for over twenty years, after all... He's indeed a jerk, but..."
At this point, Lacey's strength waned, and she couldn't continue.
"Mom, just rest. We can talk about these things later," Oliver also advised.
Adeline looked at Lacey, who had closed her eyes and continued sleeping, and sighed.
She knew Lacey was kind-hearted.
After all, Lacey had been considerate to her, despite not being her blood relative.
And this was in a situation where Mateo didn't even value Adeline.
It showed Lacey had a good heart.
But it also made Lacey more susceptible to being held back by Mateo.
However, Harrison had already stationed people around the hospital.
Mateo wouldn't be able to disturb her again.
Lacey fell back asleep, and Bianca, Oliver, and Adeline left the ward together.
"Adeline, my mom is like that. She's easily swayed. Don't take her words to heart," Bianca said. "I've heard some things about what happened before... Honestly, that kind of man isn't worthy of your concern."
Oliver tugged at Bianca's sleeve, signaling her to stop talking.
But Bianca shook off his hand and continued, "It's true. Adeline, you've done more than enough for him. You owe him nothing. If you keep looking after him, he'll just take advantage of you."
"Don't worry, I know," Adeline said with a smile.
"That's good." Bianca sighed in relief. "I was afraid you'd end up like my mom, always soft-hearted. If that's the case, he'd keep using you."
Adeline nodded.
"By the way, we need to thank Mr. Thomson this time," Bianca said. "But whenever we see him, we get a bit nervous. I wanted to invite him for a meal, but you know his presence..."
Bianca was genuinely scared.
"Don't worry, I'll handle it," Adeline said. "I'll talk to him, and you all just focus on taking care of Lacey."
"Alright." Bianca nodded, her expression showing a bit of guilt.
She said, "Adeline, thank you for all you did for us. I was so thoughtless, always arguing with you over little things when we were children."
Adeline smiled and patted her head, saying,
"That's all in the past. Why bring it up now?
Actually, I'm still not used to you like this. I always felt the real you was the one who liked to argue with me."
Bianca couldn't help but laugh, her eyes reddening. "Oh, is it because it's been a while since we argued, and you're not used to it?"
"Hmm... a little."
"Well, then I'll make sure to argue with you every day," Bianca said.
"Let's not do that. I'm afraid I might end up making you cry," Adeline said.
"Tsk, no way!"
With Lacey's surgery completed, Adeline finally felt a huge burden lift off her shoulders.
She decided to check on Sam next.
She needed to know how Sam was doing so she could answer Joyce's questions.
She understood Joyce well enough to know that Joyce wouldn't show up in front of Sam again since he had a new girlfriend.
Sam's ward was on a different floor from Lacey's.
As Adeline entered the elevator, she saw someone hurrying toward the elevator from a distance.
She quickly pressed the open door button, hoping to hold the door for him.
Luckily, the man moved quickly and soon entered the elevator.
"Thank you," he said politely to Adeline.
Adeline was about to respond with "You're welcome" when she recognized the man's face and froze for a moment.
