Chapter 254: Wait for Her
Ronan's heart tightened, and he responded faintly, "Oh."
"Mr. Thomson, I think you should face her openly rather than avoid her," Isaline said.
"Although I believe those things are not your fault, if you feel you owe Miss Hensley something, then you should make amends. Hiding away won't solve the problem."
Ronan were taken aback.
Looking at Isaline's serious expression, Ronan suddenly felt she made a lot of sense.
He thought to himself, "Why not find a way to make it up to her if I feel sorry for Miss Hensley? That will be a way to atone for my mother's actions."
"You're right," Ronan said.
Isaline said, "So, don't keep brooding and making yourself unhappy..."
Before Isaline could finish her sentence, the door to Ronan's room was suddenly pushed open.
Milania walked in, carrying a plate of freshly
baked pastries.
She shot a cold glance at Isaline and then flashed a flattering smile at Ronan.
Milania said, "Ronan, I just baked some pastries. Have some. I noticed you haven't eaten much today."
Since Milania's issues were exposed, Ronan had been cold towards her.
Milania had been trying to smooth things over, hoping to mend her relationship with her son.
"Got it, Mom. You can leave them there," Ronan said lightly.
Milania lowered her eyes, looking somewhat disappointed.
She placed the pastries on the table and then said to Isaline, "Miss Bonner, can I talk to you for a moment?"
"Mom, what do you want to do?" Ronan asked with a frown.
"I just want to have a chat with her," Milania said with a smile. "We're at home. Do you think I'd do anything to her?"
Ronan was about to say something, but Isaline stopped him.
She gently shook her head at Ronan and then walked out of the room with Milania.
As soon as Isaline closed the door, Milania suddenly slapped her hard with great force.
Isaline's face swelled up quickly. However, she didn't react much.
She just touched her face and said, "Ms. Barrera, considering you're Mr. Ronan's mother, I'll let this slap slide."
"You bitch," Milania hissed. "Who told you to say such things in front of Ronan?"
The door hadn't been closed properly when Isaline entered Ronan's room, and Milania had overheard her remarks.
Isaline suggested that Ronan should make amends to Adeline, which angered Milania.
Milania didn't think Adeline was worthy of that.
"I only shared my thoughts with Mr.
Ronan," Isaline said. "If you think I was wrong, you could have rebutted me in front of Mr. Ronan."
Milania was momentarily stunned.
She dared not say such things in front of Ronan now.
She even feared mentioning Adeline in his presence.
"Who do you think you are?" Milania said angrily.
"You're just a shameless woman clinging to my son.”
Isaline said calmly, "Perhaps, but at least I don't harm others."
She genuinely detested Milania now.
If not for Milania being Ronan's mother, Isaline wouldn't even bother to talk to her.
However, her words had no real impact on someone like Milania.
Milania sneered and moved closer to Isaline, saying coldly, "Since I can harm others, I
can also harm you."
Isaline was momentarily stunned.
She then said, "But if something happens to me now, everyone will immediately think of you."
Pausing, Isaline added, "Mr. Ronan is already distant from you. What do you think will happen if he finds out you laid a hand on me?"
Milania shot her a fierce look and then left.
After she left, Isaline felt her legs go weak, almost collapsing onto the floor.
That had truly scared her.
She knew Milania was ruthless, and Milania might actually act against her.
But she had to stay calm. If Milania saw any sign of panic, she'd have even more leverage over Isaline.
Isaline took a moment to compose herself and thought, "It must be tough for Ronan to have such a mother."
After work in the evening, everyone in the executive office had already left.
Adeline had a few things left to handle, so she stayed behind to work late.
Since she hadn't left, Harrison hadn't gotten off work either.
It wasn't until Adeline finished her tasks and knocked on the office door that Harrison finally came out of the office.
"Ready to go?" Harrison asked.*
He had put on his coat, clearly prepared to leave.
"Yes, I've finished the work," Adeline said.
"Then let's go."
As they walked to the elevator, Adeline suddenly had a flash of insight and asked, "I remember that whenever I worked late, you worked late as well. Were you waiting for me?"
Harrison didn't answer, but his ears turned slightly red.
The more he didn't answer, the more
Adeline felt she was right.
"Tell me." Adeline prodded his side. "Were you really waiting for me every time?"
Just then, the elevator doors opened.
"The elevator's here. Let's go." Harrison quickly changed the subject.
But Adeline wasn't ready to let it go.
Once inside the elevator, after pressing the button for their floor, Adeline continued, "Did you really wait for me every time? Did you stay late at the office with me?"
She remembered that it seemed to have been this way for a long time.
Back then, even though she liked Harrison, she didn't dare to have any inappropriate thoughts and kept her focus on work, so she hadn't noticed.
Looking back, Adeline realized that when she worked late, Harrison would stay at the office with her.
Harrison didn't want to admit and said, "No. It's just a coincidence. Besides, you're my secretary. If you have unfinished work, I have work too. Isn't it normal?"
"Is it?" Adeline looked at him skeptically.
"Yes," Harrison answered solemnly.
Adeline tried to suppress her laughter, saying, "I don't believe you. You're lying."
"I'm not."
"You were waiting for me every time, weren't you?" Adeline tugged at his sleeve.
Harrison fell silent again.
His silence was basically an admission.
Adeline felt a thrill inside.
It turned out that even back then, she was differen't in Harrison's eyes.
She now understood how Harrison felt when he saw her wish post in the noodle shop.
"So why didn't you tell me?" Adeline asked.
Harrison adjusted his gold-rimmed glasses on the bridge of his nose.
His fingers were long and slender, and as he adjusted his glasses, it added a touch of allure.
“If I told you, it would scare you,” Harrison said.
