Chapter 263: The Accident
After Alberto returned to his hotel, he couldn't calm down.
For some reason, his mind was occupied with Adeline.
He wondered how she was doing now.
Alberto thought, "She should be in the hospital by now, right? Could the drug in her system have any side effects?"
The more he thought about it, the more restless he became.
Alberto didn't understand why he was so concerned about Adeline.
If he had been this concerned about her just to ask for her help, it wouldn't have seemed necessary.
At that moment, Alberto recalled Benjamin's words. "You look a lot like her."
A thought flashed through his mind, and Alberto suddenly stood up.
His heart raced as he thought, "Could she be my sister? Could such coincidences really happen?"
Alberto found it hard to believe, but given the possibility that she might be his sister, he wasn't willing to dismiss it.
He immediately grabbed his coat, headed outside, and made a phone call.
"Find out which hospital Miss Hensley is in, and do it quickly," Alberto said.
Over two hours after being admitted to the hospital, Adeline slowly regained consciousness.
When she opened her eyes, she saw Harrison sitting by her bed.
"You're awake." Harrison moved closer.
"How do you feel? Are you still dizzy?"
Adeline didn't feel dizzy but couldn't quite recall what had happened.
"What happened to me?" she asked, her voice hoarse.
Harrison got up, poured some warm water, and said, "Benjamin set you up."
Hearing the name, Adeline suddenly remembered what had occurred earlier.
Harrison brought the warm water over, helped her sit up, and began feeding it to her slowly.
After drinking the water, Adeline felt a bit clearer.
She asked, "Where is Benjamin now?"
"He's at the hotel," Harrison replied. "I've got people keeping an eye on him."
But Benjamin had brought quite a few people with him this time.
"That lunatic. He treated me like a stand-in,"
Adeline couldn't help but curse.
"A stand-in?" Harrison frowned.
"Yes."
Adeline recounted the events that had happened in the private room.
At her words, Harrison's expression darkened.
The person he had been so protective of was treated as a stand-in by someone else.
Harrison couldn't tolerate it.
At least he finally understood why Benjamin had targeted Adeline.
Harrison thought, "He is indeed a lunatic. And now he wants to take Adeline away? Not a chance."
"Don't worry." Harrison gently stroked Adeline's head. "I will never let him take you."
"Yes, I know," Adeline said.
When Hannah had called her to find a bracelet, Adeline had felt something was off and had sent a message to Harrison.
Upon receiving Adeline's message, Harrison rushed to her location.
Before heading there, he had also notified the bodyguards who were always protecting Adeline.
Given the current situation, he feared something might happen to her and had kept her under guard.
But when those bodyguards tried to get in, they were blocked by Benjamin's men.
Fortunately, Harrison arrived in time.
He brought Rowen and Georgia, along with some other subordinates.
His subordinates subdued Benjamin's men, and Harrison, along with Rowen and Georgia, entered the restaurant and rescued Adeline.
To be honest, Harrison was still shaken when he thought about it.
If he had arrived any later, Benjamin could have really taken Adeline away.
At that moment, Harrison suddenly remembered someone else.
"There was another person in the private room, Alberto," Harrison said. "Do you remember anything about him?"
At the time, his focus had been on Adeline, so he hadn't paid much attention to Alberto.
But reflecting on the situation, he vaguely felt that Alberto and Benjamin might not be on the same side.
"Was Alberto there too?" Adeline asked, puzzled.
She didn't remember seeing Alberto.
"It's fine. If you can't recall, don't worry about it," Harrison said quickly.
Adeline had just woken from unconsciousness.
He didn't want to overstrain her.
"Wait, I think I have a vague memory," Adeline said. "At that time, I was feeling the effects of the drug, and I heard someone kicking the door, so l yelled for help. I was groggy in the chair, and I heard someone arguing with Benjamin. That person must have been Alberto."
"In that case, Alberto is probably not working with Benjamin," Harrison said.
Adeline speculated, "He might have heard about my class reunion and came to find me, and he happened to run into Benjamin. Since he argued with Benjamin, he might not agree with Benjamin's actions."
"Was he looking for you because of Aprico
Group?"
"Yes, he called me before, wanting to meet up. didn't agree."
Harrison nodded, finding Adeline's deduction reasonable.
If Adeline's guess was correct, then Alberto likely intended to help her.
Regardless of his other motives, he hadn't meant to harm Adeline.
"The doctor said the drug in your system has no side effects, and you'll be fine after waking up," Harrison said. "Do you want to stay in the hospital for the night, or go home?"
"I'd rather go home," Adeline said.
Staying in the hospital wasn't as comfortable as being at home.
She was very tired today and wanted to go home and rest.
"Okay, I'll take you home."
Adeline rested a bit longer until she felt her strength returning. Then she walked out of the ward with Harrison.
Just then, Rowen approached.
"Mr. Thomson, an accident victim was just brought in by ambulance," Rowen said. "I checked, and the hospital has confirmed that the person is Alberto."
Upon hearing this, Adeline was stunned.
It happened so suddenly. They had just mentioned Alberto, and now they were getting news about his accident.
Harrison hadn't expected this either.
"What's his condition now?" Harrison asked.
"It's not clear yet," Rowen said.
Harrison said, "Have someone stay here and let me know if there are any updates."
"Yes."
After speaking with Rowen, Harrison turned to Adeline and noticed she seemed distracted.
"What's wrong?" he asked.
Hearing Harrison's voice, Adeline snapped back to reality.
She shook her head and said, "Nothing..."
After that, she suddenly felt a pang of sadness, a bit like wanting to cry, and her heart ached.
"Are you Okay? Is something bothering you?"
Harrison asked anxiously. "Should I call a doctor?"
"I'm fine, no need. It's just... I'm feeling quite upset."
