Chapter 193: Pass By Adeline's Place
Hearing Myra's words, Lorenzo remained expressionless, even keeping his smile intact.
He said, "It's already evening, so it would be impolite to suddenly ask a young lady over. Let's meet another time."
Myra thought Lorenzo didn't oppose it.
She was pleased and was about to say something more when Lorenzo added, "But now that Harrison is grown up, matters of the heart should be his own decision."
Myra couldn't hold back any longer and said, "No matter how old Harrison gets, he's still a child in my eyes. Besides, he's still young and not very thoughtful about emotional matters. As his mother, I have a duty to oversee things."
Harrison frowned slightly.
Just as he was about to say something, Lorenzo gave him a look.
Then Lorenzo nodded and said, "Well, you do have a point."
Although Lorenzo didn't say anything outright opposing, Myra still felt a bit awkward.
After all, Lorenzo was the head of the family, and no one had ever dared to speak to him in such a tone.
So, she stood up and said, "I'll go check on the kitchen."
After speaking, she quickly left.
Lorenzo watched her back and said to Harrison, "Your mother has had a hard time over the years.
When your father passed away, she was still young. I wanted her to find someone else, but she refused and chose to raise you alone. What she hopes most is for you to be well."
"I'm doing well already," Harrison said.
"Now, I just want to be with the person I like."
Lorenzo sighed and said, "She's stuck in her ways.
The more you oppose her, the less she will agree.
She might end up doing something extreme. You should know her well."
Harrison was silent for a moment and said, "But I absolutely won't meet the people she arranges for me."
That was fine for others.
He didn't want to cause any trouble for Adeline.
"If you don't want to meet them, then don't," Lorenzo said with a smile. "I'll handle it and talk to her."
"Thank you, Grandpa."
Harrison felt his temples throbbing.
If it were someone else, it would be fine.
But it was his own mother.
It seemed he needed to find a way to change
Myra's mindset.
After the meal, Harrison couldn't help but take out his phone and send a message to Adeline, [Have you had dinner?)
He knew he was kind of grasping for conversation.
But he wanted to talk to her.
Adeline replied quickly.
She sent a photo of a bowl of noodles.
Then she sent another message, [Just cooked the noodles and am about to eat.]
Harrison looked at the photo.
It was just a simple bowl of noodles with a fried egg and a few vegetables on top.
But he felt that the noodles must be very delicious.
At that moment, Adeline sent another message, (What about you? Have you eaten?)
Harrison was about to say he had just eaten when a thought crossed his mind, and he replied, (No, I have something to do.)
Adeline said, [It's so late already. Even if you have something to do, you should eat first.]
Harrison smiled and replied, [I'll pass by your place later.]
This time, Adeline didn't reply immediately.
Harrison wasn't in a hurry and patiently waited.
After about three or four minutes, Adeline said, (Then stop by when you're nearby, and I'll cook a bowl of noodles for you.)
When he saw this message, Harrison's smile almost reached his ears.
However, at that moment, he heard Myra's voice, "Harrison, what's the good news that has you smiling so happily?"
Harrison put away his phone and said lightly,
"Nothing."
At times like this, it was better not to provoke Myra.
Being too forceful with her might have the opposite effect.
Myra's gaze darkened as she thought, " How could he say it was nothing when he has been smiling like that? It was likely related to Adeline."
Myra felt a lump in her throat. She couldn't understand why Harrison, despite so many distinguished young ladies, only liked a secretary who didn't match his family background.
Shouldn't people from their kind of prestigious family end up with a match of the same background?
Since Myra was a child, she had always been educated this way.
That was why she married Harrison's father.
After marriage, the couple treated each other with respect, and she thought that was a good life.
So, from the time Harrison was little, she had instilled the concept in him that he must marry a lady of equal social standing.
Unfortunately, Harrison didn't seem to accept this idea.
Myra had eaten very little earlier, and now she had even less appetite. Even with a table full of delicious dishes, she didn't want to eat anymore.
"I'll make some coffee for you," she said to Lorenzo as she stood up.
"Alright."
Lorenzo had finished eating, and the servants came to clear the table.
Harrison said to Lorenzo, "Grandpa, I have a bit of business, so I'll leave first."
Lorenzo immediately understood and smiled, "Go ahead. Being young is so nice..."
By the time Myra returned with the coffee, Harrison was already gone. Only Lorenzo remained in the living room, sitting on the sofa and reading the newspaper.
Since Harrison didn't drink in the evening, he didn't call a driver and planned to drive himself.
As he walked into the courtyard to go to the parking garage, he suddenly heard a few coughs and then someone calling him, "Harrison."
He turned around and saw his cousin, Marshall Harrison.
The family connection was somewhat awkward in the Thomson family.
Marshall's grandfather was Lorenzo's younger
brother, but his father was actually adopted, not the biological son of his grandfather.
Marshall's mother was weak and died after giving birth to him, and he inherited her fragile health, always needing medicine from a young age.
A few years ago, his grandfather passed away, and both he and his father became even more awkward in the Thomson family.
After his grandfather adopted his father, he never added Marshall to the family tree.
So now, neither Marshall nor his father was listed in the Thomson family genealogy.
Without blood ties or a place in the family tree, if the Thomson family expelled them, they would have to accept it.
However, the Thomson family wouldn't do that.
Although they had no blood relationship, they had been interacting for so long, and supporting a few more people was not a big deal.
Lorenzo still cared for Marshall's weak health and had always kept Marshall at the Thomson family for recuperation.
"Marshall?" Harrison said, "How's your health recently?"
"Feeling much better than before," Marshall said with a smile as he approached.
Harrison nodded and said, "You've always had poor health. You need to rest well. If there's anything I can help with, just let me know."
"I know. You've always taken care of me since I was young."
