One night stand with my president (chapter 246)

Chapter 246: It’s Not Your Fault

Joyce trembled.

"It's Okay. If you don't want to talk about it, then don't," Adeline said quickly. "I'll stay here with you. Don't be afraid."

Seeing the half-eaten porridge on the table and the medication beside it, Adeline thought that Callan must have come to visit Joyce.

Adeline thought, "But what exactly happened between them that made things turn out this way?"

At this moment, a troubling suspicion started to form in her mind, which made her uneasy.

Finally, Joyce spoke up.

"Adeline, I just heard him on the phone," she said, her voice choked with emotion. "It turns out he's the one who sent people to attack Sam."

Adeline sighed inwardly and thought, "As expected, she found out."

"Adeline, it's all my fault," Joyce said, wiping her face. "If I hadn't liked Sam and hadn't shown my love for Sam in front of Callan, Sam wouldn't have been hurt."

"I knew you'd think that," Adeline said helplessly.

"Joyce, it's not your fault."

Callan and Joyce were just ordinary friends.

He hadn't even confessed his feelings to her, so he shouldn't have stopped Joyce from loving anyone.

If someone felt the need to kill just because the person they liked had fallen for someone else, the world be in complete chaos.

Joyce remained silent for a moment and said, "I won't like Sam anymore. It was never meant to be between us."

"Just focus on getting better first. We can talk about these things once you're well." Adeline reassured her.

Joyce nodded.

At that moment, the doorbell rang.

Joyce shivered instinctively, fearing that Callan had returned.

"Don't be afraid. I'll check," Adeline

said.

Adeline went to the door and looked through the peephole.

A délivery person stood outside.

"The medication you ordered online has arrived," Adeline said.

She opened the door and took the medication.

Then the delivery person left.

Hearing the door close, Joyce finally let out a sigh of relief.

"By the way, I thought something was off earlier," Joyce said. "I only told you about my illness. How did Callan find out?"

"Didn't you tell him?" Adeline asked in surprise.

"I didn't, and I haven't posted anything about being sick," Joyce said.

Adeline's expression grew serious as she thought, "If that were the case, the situation would be severe. Could Callan have been monitoring Joyce's every move?"

Her first thought was that Callan might have installed surveillance or listening devices in Joyce's home.

But soon, her gaze fell on the medication in her hand.

"You bought the medication through the delivery app, right?" Adeline asked.

"Yes," Joyce said.

"Maybe he found out through that."

With Callan's current backing being Jamarion, it wouldn't be hard for him to monitor someone's food delivery.

"Through delivery? That's..." Joyce suddenly felt a chill.

She often ordered delivery, usually for lunch at the office and sometimes at home in the evening.

Joyce just realized that every time she ordered takeout, someone else knew exactly what she was eating, and all her preferences were out in the open.

It didn't seem like a big deal, but the more she thought about it, the creepier it felt.

Moreover, if Callan had someone monitoring her delivery orders, it meant that he was likely also monitoring her other apps.

"That creep!" Joyce couldn't help but curse.

"Take your medicine and then get some rest," Adeline said. "Your health is important."

"Okay...

With Adeline around, Joyce felt much more at ease.

After taking the medication, she went to the bedroom and fell asleep quickly.

While she slept, Adeline carefully checked

Joyce's home.

However, she didn't find any surveillance or listening devices.

It seemed her guess might be right. Callan knew Joyce was ill through the delivery app.

Adeline looked at Joyce, who was sleeping soundly, and her eyes were filled with concern.

Callan was a creep. His psyche must have been twisted long ago. Being liked by such a person wasn't a good thing.

That night, Adeline stayed at Joyce's place.

She couldn't leave Joyce alone in her condition.

Fortunately, it was the weekend, so Adeline didn't have to go to work.

When Adeline woke up in the morning, Joyce was still asleep. Adeline made some porridge and then woke Joyce up.

Joyce groggily opened her eyes and, seeing Adeline, let out a sigh of relief.

"What's wrong?"

"I had a nightmare." Joyce sat up, patted her chest, and still felt worried. "I dreamed that Callan was going to kill Sam in front of me. I wanted to stop him, but my legs felt like they were glued to the ground. I could only watch helplessly as Sam died right in front of me."

Even though Joyce knew it was just a dream after waking up, she was still terrified.

She was worried that Callan might do something else to harm Sam.

"Don't worry." Adeline comforted her. "After such a big incident, the Juarez family will definitely strengthen Sam's protection. Mr. Thomson won't just stand by either."

"Alright..."

Adeline touched Joyce's head and said, "Your fever is gone now, but from your voice, I can tell you're still not fully recovered. Have some porridge and then take more medicine."

"Okay."

Joyce had little appetite.

But since Adeline had made the porridge, Joyce ate some.

"Adeline, I just thought of something. How could Callan have the means to harm Sam? Doesn't he fear retaliation from the Juarez family? And Sam is a close friend of Mr. Thomson. Isn't Callan afraid of Mr. Thomson?"

Joyce knew Callan had made a lot of money in business over the past two years, but he couldn't compare to the Thomson family or the Juarez family. So she didn't know how he dared to harm Sam.

Adeline told her about Callan's background.

Joyce didn't know who Jamarion was, but she just needed to know that Callan's current status was quite ordinary.

Joyce said, "Oh, that's it. When I knew him, Callan was just an ordinary worker. No wonder he suddenly makes so much money in business. Turns out he has a wealthy father."

Joyce wasn't jealous of Callan's wealth. She just despised him for using his father's influence to act recklessly.

"So, you need to stay far away from him in the future," Adeline said. "Last night, I applied for a new phone card with my ID. When you get it, you should switch to it and re-register all your privacy-related apps with the new number."

Adeline was confident that Joyce was

someone she could trust, so she was comfortable giving her the new phone card.

"Alright," Joyce said gratefully. "Adeline, thank you. I don't know what l'd do without you. Thank you for yesterday as well. If you hadn't shown up in time..."

Adeline didn't want Joyce to dwell on what happened the previous day and quickly said,

"Come on. You don't need to be so polite.

When I needed money urgently, you even transferred the down payment for your house to me."

"Oh, it was just 20 thousand dollars..."
