Chapter 240: Can You Forgive Her?
Just then, someone knocked on the door.
"Who is it?" Ronan asked.
"It's me." Isaline's voice sounded. "Mr. Thomson, I've brought you breakfast."
"Come in."
Isaline pushed the door open, carrying a tray with several sandwiches and a glass of milk.
"I knew you were feeling down and probably didn't want to go out for breakfast, so I brought it to you," Isaline said with a smile. "I made the sandwiches myself. Try them."
Ronan looked at Isaline setting the breakfast on the table with a complex expression.
The reason he treated Isaline differently was because her name contained one syllable as
Adeline's name.
He knew it was irrational, but he couldn't help himself.
So, when Isaline expressed her desire to come back with him, he agreed.
But now. Ronan felt he was being unfair to her.
Even though he didn't need her to repay him, he selfishly kept her around, enjoying her kindness.
"You should eat breakfast. I'll leave now," Isaline said.
As Isaline was about to leave, Ronan called out to her. "Wait a moment."
"What's wrong?" Isaline asked.
"You should go home," Ronan said.
Isaline was taken aback and quickly asked, "Why? Did I do something wrong? Why are you suddenly asking me to go home?"
"I just feel that you've already done enough for me," Ronan said with a wry smile. "And your home is in Marifort City. There's no need for you to leave everything behind for me."
Isaline felt relieved.
She tucked her hair behind her ear and smiled. "If you're worried about that, don't be.
My parents divorced when I was in middle school and quickly started new families. They only gave me'a little money each month to make sure I wouldn't starve. After I turned eighteen, they cut off my support and didn't want to have any more contact with me."
It was a sad story, but Isaline spoke without much sadness on her face.
Perhaps she had grown accustomed
to it long ago.
"My relatives don't keep in touch with me either.
During school, I worked various jobs to have a bit of extra money and had no time for friends, so l have no attachments in Marifort City," Isaline said.
Ronan looked at her with sympathy.
He hadn't realized Isaline had grown up like this.
"But I don't want to delay you any longer," Ronan said. "Being with me is wasting your time."
"I don't think so. Being grateful is a lesson I learned from a young age," Isaline said. "I don't ask for anything else. I just hope that when you need me, I can be there for you, even if it's just to offer a little comfort."
Ronan opened his mouth but didn't know what to say.
After a moment, he said, "How about this? I'll arrange a job for you at the Thomson Group. If you want to repay me, you can do so by working hard."
Isaline's interest was piqued by this offer.
She had actually received a job offer from a big company in Marifort City before.
But she had declined it to follow Ronan to repay him.
However, she still wanted to work.
Now that Ronan had made this offer, she was happy.
"You'll be close to me if you work at the Thomson Group. If I need anything, I can find you. What do you think?" Ronan said.
This way, Isaline would have a job of her own and wouldn't waste her youth being by his side.
Isaline nodded and said, "Alright. But if you just give me a position directly, wouldn't that be unfair to others?"
"Don't worry. There's actually an upcoming interview," Ronan said lightly. "Just prepare a resume for me, and I'll send it to the person in charge of the interview. Whether you pass will depend on your own abilities."
Hearing this, Isaline said happily, "Okay. I'll get it ready right away."
Before leaving, Isaline suddenly remembered something and said to Ronan, "By the way, I heard Miss Hensley stayed over at the Thomson family last night. If you have anything to say to her, you can find her."
Although Ronan hadn't said it directly, she guessed he must have a lot to talk about with Adeline.
Ronan said, "Alright, thank you."
After Isaline left, Ronan looked down at his phone.
He had initially planned to call Adeline, but now, he thought it would be better to speak to her in person.
After breakfast, Adeline left with Harrison, heading to the company.
As they reached the courtyard, they saw Ronan sitting in a wheelchair, waiting.
When he saw Adeline, his expression was very complex.
Adeline, however, acted as usual, greeting him as she had before.
"Good morning, Mr. Ronan."
"Good morning, Miss Hensley, Harrison." Ronan forced a smile.
"What are you doing here?" Harrison frowned.
"It's so cold, and you're dressed so lightly."
Ronan looked down at his clothes, scratched his head, and said, "It's fine. Well, Harrison, I need to speak with Miss Hensley alone. Is that Okay?"
He looked cautiously at Harrison, worried he
object.
However, Harrison didn't seem to oppose it.
He just glanced at Adeline to seek her opinion.
Seeing Adeline nod, Harrison said, "I'll wait in the car for you."
"Okay."
After Harrison left, Ronan looked at Adeline and said quietly, "Miss Hensley, I'm sorry."
Adeline said, "You haven't done anything wrong, so there's no need to apologize."
"But it was my mother," Ronan said sadly.
"She hurt you."
"Yeah, it was your mother, not you," Adeline said.
"You didn't know about what she did."
"If I had known, I would have stopped her," Ronan said in a muffled voice. "But unfortunately, I never noticed."
"It's not your fault," Adeline said gently. "I won't hold any ill feelings toward you because of this."
If Ronan had known what Milania was doing and hadn't stopped her, or had even
8/81
helped her, it would have been a different story.
But Ronan, being the innocent person he was, could never do such things.
To Adeline, he was just like a kind-hearted kid.
"Then can you forgive my mother?" Ronan asked cautiously.
Adeline looked at him and felt sympathy, but she couldn't forgive someone like Milania just because she felt sorry for Ronan.
"Sorry, I can't," Adeline said.
