Chapter 266: Unwilling to Smile
"No," Adeline immediately said. "There are still some tasks I haven't finished."
Harrison frowned and was about to say something, but when he looked up, he saw Adeline staring at him defiantly.
He had to swallow what he was going to say.
He knew very well how responsible Adeline was about her work, so he couldn't persuade her otherwise.
Adeline sat down across from him and said with a smile, "Don't worry. I've had a full night's sleep and I feel much better now."
Physically, she was perfectly fine.
It was just that she still had some concerns about Alberto.
"Do you feel dizzy at all?" Harrison asked.
Adeline shook her head and said, "Not at all."
"If you're going to attend such gatherings in the future, I should accompany you,"
Harrison said sternly. "You almost had an accident." Adeline gave a helpless smile and said, "How was I supposed to know that a class reunion would lead to something like this?"
Benjamin managed to track her down through her high school classmates.
It was incredible.
Not only did Hannah help Benjamin set her up, but she even drugged her food.
Adeline had no idea what would become of Hannah now that she was in Benjamin's hands.
"Indeed, one must always be cautious," Harrison said.
After breakfast, Adeline said, "I want to visit the hospital again after work this afternoon."
Lacey had not been discharged yet, and she wanted to check on her.
She wanted to see how Alberto was doing.
"Alright," Harrison said.
When Adeline and Harrison arrived at the company, they happened to run into Isaline.
Seeing them, Isaline excitedly ran over. "Miss Hensley, Mr. Thomson."
Isaline found Adeline very approachable but was still a bit intimidated by Harrison.
"Did you pass the interview?" Adeline asked with a smile.
"Yes," Isaline said happily. "I'm here to start my job today."
"That's great. From now on, we'll be colleagues."
Adeline extended her hand.
Isaline quickly shook her hand and said, "It's so nice to be able to work with you."
"How's Ronan doing these days?" Harrison asked.
Isaline was a bit nervous speaking to him.
Luckily, Adeline was beside her, which allowed her to keep her composure and answer his questions.
"He's doing well. Mr. Ronan has improved a lot in the past couple of days and is eating and resting properly," Isaline said. "I think he'll be back to work soon."
Harrison nodded and said, "That's good. Please take good care of him."
"Yes. It's what I'm supposed to do."
Since the last time, when Isaline had spoken to Ronan, he had indeed perked up.
He wanted to recover and find a way to properly make up for Adeline.
So now he ate when he was supposed to, rested when needed, took his medicine, and was no longer listless or had trouble eating.
Milania watched this change with mixed feelings of joy and frustration.
On one hand, she was glad Ronan was finally willing to live positively again.
On the other hand, she was keenly aware that his change was due to Adeline.
"Damn Adeline! That damn woman Isaline is no pushover either!" Milania cursed angrily.
Milania wanted to do something.
But now her activities were strictly confined to the Thomson family.
In fact, she didn't even have the right to contact the outside world by phone.
Every day, she could only read books or watch TV.
Fortunately, before she lost contact with the outside, she had already taken steps to deal with Collin.
Milania knew that being anxious wouldn't help, so she forced herself to stay calm and pretended to be calm in front of Ronan and Ashton, hoping they would believe she wouldn't cause any more trouble.
However, the two of them remained cold and distant towards her.
Ronan would rather chat with Isaline than give Milania a smile.
Sometimes, Milania felt a bit aggrieved.
She was doing all those things for Ronan.
"Why could Harrison manage the Thomson Group, but Ronan couldn't? I just wanted to improve Ronan's status. But Ronan just didn't understand me," Milania thought.
After lunch, Milania wanted to have a talk with Ronan.
However, Ronan showed no intention of spending time with her and directly headed back to his room with his crutch.
He no longer used a wheelchair and had started walking slowly with a crutch.
"Ronan, are you not planning to talk to me anymore?" Milania couldn't help but ask.
Ronan's footsteps paused.
After a moment, he said, "Mom, I don't know what to say to you right now."
"I know you're blaming me for those things," Milania said. "But I did it for your good."
"For my good?" Ronan said with a bitter smile. "But what vou think is 'good' is not what I want. Also, are you sure it's for my good? Are you sure you're not just using an excuse to get what you want?"
Milania's face went pale.
It was as if her deepest feelings had been exposed, and her cheeks flushed with embarrassment.
Ronan left without looking back.
Milania watched his back and sighed.
But she didn't mind.
She believed that when her plans came to fruition, Ronan would understand her.
Even though she thought so, Milania still felt very upset.
She left the house, wanting to take a walk.
But she didn't dare to go towards the main courtyard.
She didn't want to run into Myra.
Now, whenever Myra saw her, it was as if
she wanted to swallow Milania whole.
Milania wasn't afraid, but she didn't want to cause any conflict with Myra at this time, which would only create more trouble.
So she walked in the other direction.
After walking for a while, she saw someone coughing by the pavilion ahead.
Milania thought, "Isn't that sickly Marshall?"
She walked over slowly.
Marshall had just caught his breath.
When he turned around and saw Milania, he seemed startled.
Then he smiled and said, "Ms. Barrera."
"Why are you being so formal?" Milania smiled and said, "Just call me Milania."
Marshall smiled and said, "Yes, Milania."
He then lowered his gaze and said, "In the Thomson family, few people pay attention to us. Only you have always been so courteous to uS."
"Don't think too much," Milania said.
"Although you're not related by blood to the Thomson family, you've been living here for so many years. We're all family."
"You're right," Marshall said.
As Milania looked at him, a thought suddenly occurred to her.
