Chapter 239: Stay at the Thomson Family
After they got married, Milania realized Ashton had no ambition.
But Ashton never mistreated her and always put her first. And the Thomson family provided her with a life of luxury.
But she still wasn't satisfied. What she wanted was power at its peak.
Milania tried to fight for it on her own, but soon realized her abilities weren't much better than Ashton's.
With her capabilities, she couldn't earn Lorenzo's approval or that of others.
Later, after she gave birth to their son, she pinned her hopes on Ronan.
But when Ronan grew up, she found that her son, too, couldn't bear the weight of responsibility.
She could only watch as Harrison took control of the Thomson Group.
Milania couldn't stand it.
If she couldn't compete openly, she had to resort to underhanded tactics.
She was determined to get the Thomson
Group, even if it meant its destruction once it was in her hands.
Even though Harrison and Adeline had caught on to her, it didn't matter, as Milania wasn't going to give up.
Milania was about to say something but calmed down when she saw Ashton's sorrowful face.
She still needed Ashton's support, so now wasn't the time to completely fall out with him.
Besides, they had been married for over twenty years.
Looking at Ashton like this, Milania still felt distressed.
She softened her tone and said, "I'm sorry, Ashton, I misspoke earlier. Everything I said to you back then was true. But later, when we had Ronan, I wanted to give him the best life possible, not to see him always living beneath others."
"That's no excuse to harm people," Ashton said.
"Besides, Ronan is grown now. If he truly has the capability, he won't live beneath anyone."
"I understand," Milania said. "Everything that happened before was my fault. But please believe me, I never intended to harm Harrison. I didn't do it, and I promise I'll never harm anyone again. Let's just focus on living peacefully from now on, Okay?"
Ashton looked at the woman he had spent over twenty years with, and he no longer knew whether to trust her.
What Milania said earlier had deeply hurt him.
All these years, he had treated her well, but it turned out that being with him had always been suffering for her.
If Milania had told him earlier that she needed a capable man, Ashton wouldn't have stood in her way. But she hadn't...
But it didn't matter anymore now.
"I hope you mean what you say," Ashton said wearily. "I'm tired. I'm going to rest."
With that, he headed into the bathroom.
Watching his back, Milania felt a wave of frustration.
The most important thing now was to make sure Harrison didn't find Collin.
Even though Collin's feelings for her were deeper than Wyatt's, Collin might not be able to hold out and would give her away under Harrison's threat.
If that happened, everything would be over.
Milania had to eliminate this threat.
A cold glint flashed in her eyes.
Though Collin had always been sincere with her and helped her with many things, Milania had to sacrifice him to get through this crisis.
That night, Harrison and Adeline stayed at the Thomson family.
Originally, Adeline had wanted to go home, but Myra kindly suggested she stay, saying it was late and instructing the servants to prepare a guest room.
Adeline, realizing it was indeed late, accepted Myra's rare goodwill.
The servants quickly prepared a spacious and comfortable guest room.
Harrison walked Adeline to the door of her room.
"I've had the servants prepare new clothes and pajamas for you, and there are toiletries in the bathroom," Harrison said. "If you need anything during the night, come find me. I'm just across the hall."
"Alright, don't worry," Adeline smiled. "I'm not a child."
Harrison reached up and ruffled her hair.
"Get some rest. Goodnight."
"Goodnight."
After she said that, Adeline entered the room, about to close the door.
But Harrison hadn't left yet.
"Why are you still here?" Adeline asked.
"I'm waiting for you to close the door before I go," Harrison said.
Adeline hesitated. "No, you go first, then fil close the door."
"Just close the door," Harrison said gently.
He wanted to look at her for just a few more moments, even if it was only for a few extra • seconds.
He knew they had plenty of time ahead, but he could never get enough of looking at her.
Not wanting to argue over such a small matter, Adeline reluctantly closed the door.
However, after closing it, she suddenly felt an overwhelming sense of reluctance.
Adeline sighed and thought, "It's strange.
Why did I feel this way after just parting with him? He is right across the hall. Is this what it feels like to be in love?"
The guest room was quite large, even equipped with a walk-in closet.
Adeline walked into the closet and saw a set of new pajamas hanging there, along with several new outfits.
She checked and found they were her exact size.
She admired that the servants of the Thomson family were incredibly efficient, preparing everything so quickly.
Taking the pajamas, Adeline went to the bathroom to take a shower.
Afterward, she dried her hair, put on the soft pajamas, and lay down on the plush bed, gradually feeling sleepy.
But she couldn't stop thinking about Joyce, so she forced herself to stay awake to talk to her.
It seemed they had a special connection because just as Adeline was about to reach out to Joyce, Joyce sent her a message first.
Joyce said, [Adeline, turns out he has a girlfriend again. I'm so upset.]
Of course, Adeline knew who she was talking about.
She replied with a sigh, [Having a girlfriend is normal for Mr. Juarez.]
Joyce said, [Since he's got a girlfriend, I think I should stop bothering him. Maybe Callan was right. He and I just aren't from the same world.]
Since Joyce brought up Callan, Adeline responded, [I think it's better if you interact with Callan less from now on.]
Joyce said, [Yeah, I even snapped at him before. Now I don't know how to face him.]
Joyce seemed to misunderstand her meaning, but Adeline didn't know how to explain it.
As long as Joyce distanced herself from Callan, that was enough.
Joyce sent another message, (Il'm feeling a bit dizzy. I need to get some rest. Talk to you later.]
Adeline said, [Alright, rest well.]
After putting down her phone, Adeline quickly fell asleep too.
Ronan didn't sleep much that night.
Every time he thought about what his mother had done, he didn't know how to face Adeline.
After thinking it over, he decided to talk to Adeline.
