Chapter 223: Threat
Harrison rarely takes matters into his own hands.
But this time he couldn't hold back.
The thought of all the suffering Adeline had endured and the oppression she faced from Mateo and the others made him want to kill
Mateo.
Mateo said, "Even if you kill me today, I won't say anything without seeing the money..."
Adeline suddenly laughed.
Her laughter made Mateo shudder involuntarily.
"Unfilial daughter. What are you laughing at?"
Mateo shouted angrily.
She stepped forward, standing over the fallen Mateo:.
Harrison stood by her side, fearing for her safety.
Adeline looked down at Mateo and said, "Don't forget, Millie is still in prison."
Mateo's pupils contracted sharply.
"You hold the secret from back then, so I can't do anything to you. However, I can find a way to torment Millie in prison," Adeline said coldly. "She harmed me before. I've long wanted revenge."
"You dare!" Mateo shouted.
"You can try."
Seeing Mateo's anxious and fearful expression, Adeline knew her suspicions were correct.
Previously, she had never thought deeply about the blood relations among this "family."
Adeline had only felt that Mateo treated Millie well because he liked Janiyah, and thus treated her daughter well.
After all, when there was a stepmother, Adeline didn't harbor hope that Mateo would be nice to her.
But since Adeline learned that she wasn't Mateo's biological daughter, details she had previously overlooked or refused to consider suddenly became clear.
Mateo treated Millie much better than he treated Adeline.
If neither she nor Millie were his biological daughters, there would be no reason for him to treat Adeline poorly and be so good to Millie.
So there was a possibility.
Millie was his biological daughter.
Now it seemed that this was indeed the case.
"Millie is your biological daughter, right?" Adeline asked coldly. "You betrayed my mother a long time ago, didn't you?"
Mateo's eyes darted away, and he was unable to answer her question.
In fact, the story he had told Adeline about his ex-girlfriend wasn't completely fabricated.
Back in the day, Janiyah was indeed his girlfriend when he was young.
But later, Janiyah wanted to marry a wealthy man and dumped him.
He then met Adeline's mother, who was gentle and beautiful, with a good family background, and he pursued her relentlessly until they got married.
However, after getting married, Janiyah suddenly came back to find him.
It turned out that after leaving him, Janiyah had indeed married a rich man, but that man not only had a bad temper and often beat her, but he was also married.
When that man's wife found out about Janiyah, she had people come to beat Janiyah.
Janiyah could no longer endure it and had to leave that wealthy man to return to Mateo.
Although Mateo was already married at the time, he couldn't resist when Janiyah seduced him and had an affair with her.
Afterward, Janiyah asked him to get a divorce, but at that time, he was still reluctant to part with his gentle and beautiful wife, so he refused.
A month after he had an affair with Janiyah, she came to him again, saying she was pregnant.
Mateo was terrified, fearing that his wife would find out, so he secretly gave Janiyah some money to have an abortion.
After Janiyah took the money, she disappeared.
Mateo thought she had terminated the pregnancy and felt relieved.
What he never expected was that a year later, Janiyah came back with a baby girl, claiming it was their daughter.
At first, he didn't believe it.
But after doing a paternity test, Mateo found out that she was indeed his biological daughter.
That baby girl was Millie.
Mateo could only secretly raise Janiyah and Millie.
Moreover, most of the money he used was from Adeline's mother.
Adeline's mother had suspected it before, but she had been deceived by Mateo's sweet words.
Later, when Adeline's grandparents
passed away, and there were no reliable relatives on her mother's side, Mateo became even more unrestrained.
When Adeline's mother discovered his affair with Janiyah, he was arrogant and even declared that she couldn't do anything to him even if he was keeping a woman and a child outside.
Janiyah would occasionally come to provoke her.
Mateo had always been afraid to let Adeline know that her mother was actually driven to illness by them and eventually passed away.
At that time, Adeline was still young, and her mother didn't want her to know these things, so Adeline was completely unaware.
Mateo came back to his senses from his memories.
He looked at Adeline, originally wanting to deny it, but found it pointless.
They could take another hair from him and do a paternity test with Millie.
There was no point in telling such a lie.
Mateo could only humbly say, "Millie is already in prison, so let her go. After all, you two are sisters who have lived together for so many years."
In fact, Adeline hadn't planned to do anything to Millie in prison.
Millie had already been punished by going to prison, and besides, her life there wasn't good.
However, using her to threaten Mateo was still very useful.
"She never regarded me as a sister, so I don't need to regard her as a sister," Adeline said.
"However, as long as you honestly tell me what happened back then, I naturally won't do anything to her."
Mateo fell into a dilemma.
He didn't want to let go of the opportunity to extort Adeline.
But Millie was his only bloodline.
If something happened to Millie, his bloodline would be cut off.
Although Millie was in prison now, she could be released in a few years.
Once life was gone, everything was gone.
Mateo hesitated for a moment, planning to make up a lie to fool Adeline as before.

Just as he was about to speak, he heard Harrison coldly say, "If I find out that you're lying, both you and your biological daughter will have a miserable end."
When Harrison spoke, the pressure was palpable.
Mateo began to tremble.
Despairing, he closed his eyes and said, "Alright, Adeline, I'll tell you everything that happened back then.”
Back when Mateo was pursuing Adeline's mother, Scarlett Fletcher, she told him that she was unable to have children.
Mateo was somewhat bothered by this, but he didn't want to part with the gentle and beautiful lady and her family's wealth.
He knew very well that finding another wife with such conditions would be difficult.
So he told Scarlett that he didn't mind and that he truly loved her, and it didn't matter if they didn't have children.
