One night stand with my president (chapter 212)

 Chapter 212:The Answer Is Obvious

Although Adeline's mother had passed away many years ago, Adeline still found it hard to accept that she was not her mother's biological daughhter.

Adeline thought, "Such a gentle mother, who treated me so well and gave me so much love... How could she not be my biological mother?"

Adeline was a little afraid to hear the answers from Lacey that she didn't want to hear.

She worried that she might no be able to control her emotions in front of Lacey.

Since Lacey's surgery had only been a few days ago, Adeline didn't want to make her aunt worry.

"Alright, let's go home first." Harrison held her hand and said, "It's too cold outside."

Adeline nodded.

The two quickly returned to Adeline's home.

Adeline sat on the sofa, holding her phone, but hesitated to make the call.

Harrison knew her feelings were definitely complicated right now.

He didn't say much, just poured a cup of warm water and handed it to her.

"Drink some water first," Harrison said.

"Your lips are very dry."

Adeline took a few sips and sighed, "Things just keep happening one after another. It's never-ending."

"Don't think too much," Harrison comforted her.

"Maybe Mateo just had no way out and lied to you."

Adeline nodded, put down the cup, took a deep breath, and finally dialed Lacey's number.

Lacey picked up quickly.

"Hello? Adeline? What's wrong?"

"Lacey, how have you been lately?" Adeline tried to make her tone sound normal. "I've been too busy to visit you."

"Don't worry, I'm doing well," Lacey said with a smile. "Adeline, I have to thank you. If it weren't for you, I wouldn't have met Mr.

Thomson and wouldn't have found such a good doctor for my surgery."

"We're family," Adeline said. "You should thank Mr. Thomson, not me."

Lacey smiled and said, "Yes, you're right. We are family."

After that, Lacey asked with some concern,

"Adeline, has your dad contacted you recently? | haven't been able to reach him for several days and don't know if he's gotten into trouble again."

Although Mateo had caused a scene in her ward last time, Lacey was still soft-hearted. Mateo was her brother, so it was normal that Lacey was worried about him.

Adeline was silent for a moment and said, "I saw him today."

"You saw him? How is he? Did he make a mess of himself again?" Lacey asked quickly.

Adeline didn't want to worry her, so she didn't tell Lacey the truth about Mateo's situation, just said, "He's fine; just keeps shouting at me for money."

"He... hasn’t , he really can't change, can he? Adeline, please don't give him any more money. Otherwise, he'll just get worse."

"I didn't give him any. Then he told me a secret to get money from me," Adeline said.

Upon hearing this, Lacey suddenly fell silent.

Her silence made Adeline's heart sink heavily.

"Lacey?"

After a long while, Lacey cautiously asked, "What did he tell you?"

"He said..."

Adeline coughed twice to cover the tension in her voice and continued, "He said I am not my mom's biological daughter."

"He... How could he say that?"

"Please don't be upset. Just take care of your health," Adeline hurriedly said. "The reason I called you was just to find out the truth. Even if I am not my mom's biological daughter, it doesn't matter."

She didn't want to make Lacey worry, so Adeline could only say that.

In reality, she was extremely nervous inside.

Lacey sighed and said, "Adeline, I didn't expect him to suddenly tell you this. Actually, your mom treated you so well that it's no different from being biological."

Adeline's face instantly turned pale.

What Lacey said made the answer very obvious.

Adeline actually was not her mother's biological daughter.

Mateo's words turned out to be true.

A tear slowly rolled down the corner of her eye.

"Adeline? Are you right?"

Adeline suppressed all her emotions and calmly said, "I'm fine. Don't worry. I just don't want to be kept in the dark. You're right; my mom treated me so well. Even if we aren't biologically related, in my heart, she is my biological mother."

Hearing that Adeline's voice didn't show any abnormalities, Lacey gradually felt relieved.

"That's right, I knew you could understand. As for your dad, it's really worrying. Adeline, he is still your dad. Just buy him some food and don't let him go hungry."

Adeline's tears had already streamed down.

But her voice remained calm, chatting normally with Lacey.

Harrison watched from the side, feeling heartbroken, and hurriedly took a tissue to gently wipe her tears.

After she finished the call with Lacey, Adeline's emotions seemed to stabilize.

She stopped crying and just sat on the sofa in a daze.

Harrison wanted to comfort her but didn't know where to start, so he could only sit beside her.

After a long while, Adeline suddenly stood up and said, "I'll go get something."

After saying that, she walked toward the bedroom.

Harrison was worried about her and followed

closely behind her.

However, he didn't follow her into the bedroom, instead waiting at the door.

After a while, Adeline came out holding a photo album.

The two of them sat back down on the sofa.

Adeline opened the album, and the first page showed a young woman with a little girl in a photo.

The woman looked gentle and beautiful, while the little girl wore a princess dress.

Harrison immediately recognized that it was Adeline as a child.

He couldn't help but think to himself how adorable she looked.

"This is my mom," Adeline said softly, "Do we look alike?"

Harrison took a careful look at the photo, remaining silent.

To be honest, they didn't look alike at all.

And Harrison's silence told Adeline the answer.

"Not at all, right?" Adeline smiled bitterly, "How did I not realize it before?"

When she was young, relatives all said she looked like her mom. She thought, "They must have just been being polite."

Adeline could never have imagined that such a loving mother was not her biological mother.

However, what she had just said to Lacey was not entirely false.

In her heart, this was her mother, and that wouldn't change.

Even if her mom had been gone for many years, in Adeline's heart, her love for her mom hadn't diminished in the slightest.
