Chapter 161: Troubled Night
Perhaps because Russell had just gone to visit his mother's grave with Adeline, on the way back to the hotel, he seemed to completely open up to Adeline and told her many things.
It turned out his biological mother was from Marifort City and passed away when he was seven years old.
His mother's wish was to be laid to rest where she belonged, so his father buried her in Marifort City.
Half a year after his mother passed away, his father remarried.
Russell didn't actually oppose his father remarrying. Even though he was only seven years old at the time, he was intelligent, so he understood that it was human nature for his middle-aged father not to want to live alone.
But unfortunately, his father's new wife turned out to be his aunt, Russell's mother's younger sister.
Russell couldn't accept this turn of events.
Even though his father and aunt explained to him repeatedly that they found solace in each other after his mother's death, and this developed into feelings, Russell still couldn't accept it.
However, his objections didn't change anything, and his father still married his aunt.
Over the years, his father and aunt were always cautious around him, seemingly trying to make it up to him.
He didn't want to be at odds with them.
But he could never forget how he felt when he learned that his father was going to marry his aunt.
Adeline hadn't expected such things to have happened in Russell's family.
She also hadn't expected Russell to tell her so much.
"I'm sorry." Russell said with a smile, "Did I say too much?"
Adeline shook her head, saying, "Many people have times when they want to talk about their feelings. There's nothing wrong with that." Perhaps these were things Russell had kept bottled up for many years, and today he finally let them out.
They passed through an intersection with a traffic light.
Russell stopped the car and turned to look at Adeline, his eyes full of tenderness.
"Ms. Hensley, thank you... Although I feel like I've said this to you several times today, I still want to say it, thank you."
Adeline smiled and said, "You're welcome, Mr. Hunter."
After a while, the car stopped at the hotel entrance.
Adeline got out of the car and suddenly saw another car parked in front of them.
At this moment, the car door opened, and Myra and Harrison got out of the car.
Harrison saw her as soon as he got out of the car.
He raised an eyebrow slightly, just as he was surprised, he saw Russell getting out of the driver's seat.
His pupils trembled sharply, and his eyes gradually darkened.
Adeline knew Harrison must have misunderstood her when she saw him like this.
He was definitely angry.
Adeline was nervous and had a headache, not knowing how to explain to him.
At this moment, Myra also saw her and Russell.
Her expression gradually became intriguing.
In the end, Russell took the initiative to greet Myra.
After all, Myra was his elder.
"Mrs. Thomson."
Hearing this, Myra smiled, "Mr. Hunter, it's been a long time since we met. Why are you also in Marifort City?"
"Because of some personal matters,"
Russell said.
"Oh?" Myra's gaze lingered on him and Adeline.
"Personal matters?" Russell nodded slightly.
Myra wondered if Russell's personal matters referred to Adeline.
Myra thought, "Did he specifically come to Marifort City to find Adeline? Adeline really has something special"
Adeline was Harrison's chief secretary, yet she could also hook up with Russell.
But for Myra, this was actually a good thing.
It would be best if Russell got together with Adeline.
That way, she wouldn't have to worry about her bewitched by Adeline.
Thinking this, Myra smiled.
Her tone became even warmer.
"It's fate that we can meet in Marifort City. It's almost lunchtime now. How about having a meal together?"
Russell hesitated for a moment.
Actually, he wanted to have a meal with Adeline.
But he knew that if he suggested it, Adeline would definitely refuse.
She knew he liked her, so she would never go to eat alone with him.
And now that Myra had already suggested it, he couldn't refuse.
"Alright." Russell smiled.
While talking to Myra, Russell could feel Harrison's icy gaze fixed on him.
He politely smiled back and asked, "Mr.
Thomson, would you like to join us?"
Before Harrison could reply, Myra said, "Of course, let's go together. Ms. Hensley, would you like to join us too?"
Adeline felt a lump in her throat.
She didn't want to go to this meal. Just as she was about to find some random excuse to refuse, she heard Harrison coldly say, "Well, let's go together."
Adeline was speechless.
Destroy it. Destroy it all.
The most destructive part was still to come.
She wondered if Myra thought the situation wasn't chaotic enough.
She even called Amber over.
Myra had someone book the restaurant. It was nearby, decorated in an antique and elegant style.
The private room was ready. The five of them entered the private room and took their seats.
However, the seating arrangement was somewhat strange.
There was a large round table, with Myra sitting in the main seat. To her left was Harrison, and to her right was Russell.
Amber sat to the left of Harrison.
Adeline ended up sitting between Amber and Russell.
Or she was between Harrison and Amber, with Amber in between.
Adeline felt her temples pounding. She couldn't help but glance at Harrison again.
He was flipping through the menu, as if he had no emotions at all.
But Adeline could tell just from a glance that he was unhappy.
Amber, however, failed to notice Harrison's unusual mood. She enthusiastically said to him, "Mr. Thomson, I checked before coming here.
Amber was a bit nervous. Just when she thought Harrison wouldn't respond to her, she suddenly heard him say, "Then let's try them."
Amber was taken aback for a moment, then secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
Indeed, with Myra backing her up, Harrison's attitude was different.
Harrison seemed to have let go of what happened that night. When she recommended dishes, he even responded.
Amber glanced provocatively at Adeline.
However, Adeline didn't even look at her.
She was still looking down at the menu.
Then, suddenly, Amber realized that Harrison and Adeline seemed compatible.
After this thought crossed her mind, Amber wanted to slap herself.
Myra asked each of them to order a few dishes.
Adeline didn't have much appetite. She flipped through the menu for a long time and didn't know what to order. Suddenly, she heard Russell ask her, "If you don't have an appetite, would you like to try something light?"
