Chapter 180: Works Overtime
Adeline turned and saw a very familiar face.
The alcohol seemed to be wearing off for her.
She stared at Harrison in astonishment and asked, "How did you..."
Adeline thought, "How did Harrison end up here?"
"What are you doing?" Harrison's voice was strained with suppressed anger.
Though he knew very well that she had done nothing wrong, just enjoying a night out with friends, he couldn't control his jealousy.
The fact that he had no right to be jealous only made him angrier.
"Mr. Thomson?" Joyce, startled, stood up quickly.
"We were just supporting my friend's bar."
At this moment, Sam ran over, breathless.
"It's fine, everyone. Calm down," Sam said
cheerfully.
Joyce's eyes lit up at the sight of him, and she instinctively adjusted her hair, not noticing Callan's changing expression.
"Come with me," Harrison said tersely to Adeline.
He tried to pull her away, but Adeline stood her ground.
"Mr. Thomson, it's after hours now," Adeline said, trying to sound firm.
Harrison's gaze was fixed on her..
Joyce and Sam heid their breath, waiting to hear what he would say.
Harrison finally said, "I need you to work overtime now."
Sam was speechless.
He wanted to turn around, pretending not to recognize Harrison.
How could a seasoned playboy like Sam have a friend like Harrison?
No wonder Harrison had been single for so many years.
Adeline was taken aback by Harrison's response, unsure how to reply, and allowed him to lead her away.
Sam watched them leave the bar, and then turned to Joyce with a smile, "So you and Ms. Hensley are friends."
"Yes, we've known each other for many years," Joyce said, trying to calm her racing heart and maintain a natural demeanor.
"What a coincidence." Sam sat down opposite Joyce.
"Since your friend has been taken away by my friend, I'll make it up to you. Let me buy you a drink," Sam said.
Joyce was pleased by the offer.
Since the last time Sam helped her get rid of her ex and she helped him with something, they had run into each other a few times.
Although their interactions were brief each time.
Joyce didn't know when she started to have
feelings for Sam.
All she knew was that every time she saw him, her heart raced.
But she didn't want to appear too forward, so she merely nodded and sat down with Sam.
To her surprise, Callan also sat down next to her.
Joyce looked at him in surprise.
Callan smiled and asked, "I hope you don't mind."
Given his polite request, Joyce couldn't refuse and introduced Callan, "This is my friend Callan, the owner of this bar."
Sam extended his hand and said, "It's a pleasure."
Callan shook Sam's hand.
A peculiar atmosphere seemed to envelop them.
After shaking hands, Callan said, "It's on me today. I hope you both enjoy yourselves."
Sam appeared unfazed by the subtle tension and was about to speak when his phone rang.
He answered the call and spoke soothingly to the person on the other end.
Joyce could immediately tell it was a woman.
Joyce thought, "Is she Sam's new girlfriend?"
Her expression dimmed slightly.
Harrison continued to pull Adeline out of the bar.
Before leaving, he made sure to grab Adeline's coat, wrapping it around her once they were outside.
Adeline took a deep breath and asked, "Mr.
Thomson, what work is there?"
Harrison, enraged, felt a pang of frustration.
Adeline really thought he brought her out here for work.
Without a word, he coldly guided her to the car and pushed her into the back seat.
He then climbed in beside her.
The driver, perceptive as always, saw the tension and chose to wait by the car.
Inside, it was just the two of them.
Though Harrison said nothing, Adeline could feel his anger radiating.
