Chapter 144: To Accompany Eleanor
Just as Adeline was about to refuse, Ronan said,"Now in Marifort City, I'm probably the only person you know. Having someone to accompany you is much better than being all alone in a foreign place, isn't it? Or do you want to go home now?"
Adeline didn't want to go back.
Since Harrison had already said she could take a few more days off, she might as well spend a few more days in Marifort City.
This way, she could ensure that she would handle him with the calmest attitude when she returned.
But she planned to wander around Marifort City alone.
"Mr. Thomson, I think being alone is fine," she said.
Hearing this, Ronan smiled.
He said, "Adeline, I'm very shameless. Anyway, we're both in Marifort City, staying in the same hotel, so wherever you go, I'll just go with you."
Adeline didn't expect him to say such a thing and almost laughed in exasperation.
At this moment, Ronan lowered his head and said pitifully, "I've never been to Marifort City before.I've heard there are many fun attractions, but l don't know anyone here. Adeline, I feel so lonely. It reminds me of high school. My classmates knew my family was wealthy and powerful, so they were afraid to offend me and didn't dare to befriend me. I went to classes alone and ate alone every day."
He looked like an astray dog.
Adeline felt a bit soft-hearted.
She sighed and said, "Let's go eat first."
A hint of surprise flashed in Ronan's eyes, and he immediately asked, "Adeline, what do you want to eat?"
"Anything is fine," Adeline said.
After thinking for a moment, she added, "You're Mr. Thomson's brother, so naturally, I'll treat you like a younger brother."
Hearing this, Ronan felt slightly disappointed.
He knew she was telling him that she only saw him as a younger brother and had no other intentions.
But that was fine.
As long as he could get a little closer to her, that was enough.
Ronan quickly found a high-end restaurant in Marifort City.
Adeline found the food mediocre.
It was far inferior to the restaurant Harrison had taken her to before.
However, she didn't say anything, just ate the meal with a normal expression, occasionally chatting with Ronan.
Ronan, on the other hand, was very happy, chattering away and making plans for their outings in the next few days.
After the meal, Ronan went to pay the bill.
Adeline glanced at her phone and happened to see a gossip news notification.
It was about Eleanor and Harrison having lunch together, caught by paparazzi again.
In the photo, the two sat opposite each other.
Adeline didn't want to see the expressions on their faces and quickly exited the gossip news page.
Not long after, Ronan returned after paying the bill.
"Adeline, how about we go for a walk this afternoon?" Ronan said enthusiastically. "I just asked the service staff here, and they said there's a Roscier Lake nearby. Do you want to go for a walk?"
Adeline nodded. "Sure."
Ronan had a car sent over.
He didn't call for a driver but drove himself, taking Adeline to Roscier Lake.
In the car, Adeline didn't speak.
Ronan, while driving, casually said, "Adeline, did you see the gossip news just now? The paparazzi caught Harrison having lunch with Eleanor again."
Adeline responded indifferently with a "hmm."
"I was wondering why Harrison was in such a hurry to go back," Ronan said with a smile.
"Turns out it was to accompany Eleanor."
Adeline didn't want to discuss this topic, so she didn't respond.
But Ronan continued, "Speaking of which, before Eleanor went abroad, everyone in Harrison's circle said they were a perfect match and had a great relationship, sure to end up together. Unexpectedly, Eleanor went abroad and delayed things for five years."
"Fate will ultimately bring people back together,"Adeline said calmly.
Ronan seemed a bit surprised and glanced at her before saying, "Yes, it seems Harrison and Eleanor are indeed fated."
Adeline really didn't want to continue this
conversation with him.
So she asked, "Do we need tickets for Roscier Lake? Do we need to book in advance?"
"I checked. We need tickets, but we can buy them there," Ronan said.
"Okay."
Silence fell in the car again.
Ronan found it hard to understand Adeline.
She didn't seem to react at all after knowing Harrison went back to accompany Eleanor.
Did she have no feelings for Harrison at all?
But Ronan still felt something was off.
Suddenly, Adeline's phone rang, breaking the silence in the car.
It was a call from Rowen.
"Hello?"
"Ms. Hensley, I've got news. The thief at the zoo yesterday has confessed. He was actually hired by someone, specifically targeting you and Mr. Thomson"
Although she had already guessed, Adeline's face still darkened when she heard the news.
Adeline asked, "Did he say who hired him?"
"He doesn't know who hired him," Rowen said.
"This guy is an unemployed vagrant with a mountain of debt. He got a call yesterday morning, asking him to pretend to be a thief at the zoo to assassinate you and Mr. Thomson, offering 400 thousand dollars. Driven by greed, he decided to take the risk. The call came just as you and Mr. Thomson entered the zoo."
Adeline sneered.
It seemed someone had been watching her and Harrison all day yesterday.
As for that so-called "thief," it would be easy to find pictures of her and Harrison online.
Recognizing them wouldn't be hard.
"But now, the phone number used to call him is disconnected, and there's no way to trace the previous user," Rowen said.
"The mastermind behind this must be the same as the one who ordered the hotel arson," Adeline said.
"Yes, I think so too."
Rowen continued, "So, Ms. Hensley, please inform Mr. Thomson about this."
"Mr. Thomson is no longer in Marifort City," Adeline said.
"I know, but I'm a bit busy right now and can't get away, so please call Mr. Thomson,"
Rowen said confidently.
Adeline was speechless.
Did he realize what he was saying? He just had a long phone conversation with her and now claimed he was too busy to call Harrison.
If he had time to call her, he could have just called Harrison directly. Why did he call her first?
But Adeline didn't say much, as Rowen had always taken good care of her.
"Okay, I understand," Adeline said.
After hanging up, Adeline stared at her phone screen, thinking that Harrison was probably still with Eleanor at that moment.
But she quickly shook her head.
She had to call Harrison about serious matters now, without any other distractions.
