Chapter 143: Can ! Not Go Back?
Ronan could deceive himself and think that maybe they were just talking about work now.
But deep down, he felt it was unlikely.
Although just now on the phone with Milania, he described Harrison and Adeline as having only a professional relationship, he could see clearly that they were different towards each other.
So did he not have a chance anymore?
But Ronan didn't want to give up just like that.
He had finally waited until after graduating from college to be closer to Adeline.
If he gave up like this, wouldn't it be too regretful?
Moreover, he knew very well in his heart that Harrison's mother Myra had always wanted him to find a girl from a prestigious family, and she wouldn't agree to him being with Adeline.
Although in his heart, Adeline was better
than any girl from a prestigious family, Myra obviously didn't think so.
And now Harrison was still involved with Eleanor.
Thinking like this, Ronan cheered up again.
He should still have a chance, right?
While Harrison and Adeline were eating, he suddenly received a phone call.
When he saw the caller ID, his brows furrowed deeply.
Nevertheless, he got up and walked to the window to answer the call.
"Hello?"
The person on the other end said something, and Harrison asked in a calm voice, "Is it that serious?"
"Got it, I'll come back."
Adeline's heart suddenly skipped a beat.
She had a strong intuition that this call
was from Eleanor.
After hanging up the phone, Harrison walked back and said to Adeline, "I have something urgent to go back for. We're almost done with the business here, so you stay and wrap things up."
"Okay," Adeline replied, lowering her gaze.
After a pause, she asked, "Is it something urgent?"
"Yes, it's a bit urgent," Harrison replied vaguely.
Adeline suddenly wanted to ask something more specific.
"Is it related to Ms. Fraser?" she asked.
Harrison was startled.
"How did you know?" he asked.
Adeline's heart sank inch by inch.
Sure enough, whenever something related to Eleanor came up, he would be anxious to go back.
Although he had said before that there was nothing between him and Eleanor, she still held a significant place in his heart.
"She has something going on. I need to go back,"Harrison said.
A strong impulse suddenly surged in Adeline's heart. She looked up at Harrison and grabbed his sleeve.
"Is it something very serious?" she asked.
Harrison was taken aback by her gaze, then said,"It's not that serious."
"Then, can you not go back?"
Perhaps not expecting her to say this, Harrison's face showed a rare moment of surprise.
Adeline looked at him steadily.
Until Harrison gently took her hand away.
"After work is over, if you still want to stay in Marifort City for a while longer, then extend your stay," he said. "I can arrange for you to have a few more days off."
At his words, the light in Adeline's eyes gradually dimmed.
Harrison wanted to say something more, but he saw Adeline's lips curl up.
She said, "I see, thank you, Mr. Thomson."
Her smile was beautiful, but it made Harrison's eyes slightly sore. Unable to help himself, he said, "You..."
"Mr. Thomson, do you need help packing?"
Adeline stood up, speaking in a casual tone.
In an instant, they seemed to return to the relationship between a simple boss and secretary.
The gradually intimate relationship between the two during this period, and yesterday and today's various incidents, seemed like a dream.
Harrison's heart hurt as if being pricked by needles.
After a moment of silence, he said, "No need. You stay in Marifort City. I'll arrange for someone to protect you discreetly."
"I understand. Bon vayage."
After Harrison left, Adeline continued to eat the remaining snacks on the table.
The snacks had become a bit cold and tasteless.
Adeline thought she would be very sad, but unexpectedly, her mind was incredibly clear.
He was Mr. Thomson, and she was Ms. Hensley.
That was how it had been from the beginning, and there shouldn't be any changes.
After finishing the snacks, Adeline cleaned up the trash and lay down on the sofa.
She had eaten too much and felt a bit bloated, not wanting to think about anything anymore.
She closed her eyes and fell asleep shortly.
In the morning, after Adeline finished washing up and changed into her professional attire, she went to the hotel restaurant for breakfast.
While having breakfast, she contacted the responsible person from the business partner and arranged to meet, finalized the last details of the project in Marifort City, and her work here could be concluded.
Halfway through breakfast, she felt someone sit down across from her.
She looked up and saw it was Ronan.
"Good morning, Adeline." Ronan smiled at her, showing his two small fangs.
Adeline smiled back and said, "Good morning, Mr. Ronan."
She had just finished speaking when Ronan suddenly leaned closer to her.
"Adeline, if you keep calling me so formally, I'l feel sad," he said with a hint of sadness.
"This is Marifort City, and there's no one else here. Just call me Ronan."
Adeline lowered her gaze without
responding.
Ronan didn't mind either. After taking a sip of milk, he said again, "You're meeting with the business partner later?"
"Yes."
"Let me go with you," Ronan said.
Adeline looked at him somewhat surprised.
Ronan smiled and said, "Regardless, I'm a Thomsons, and I should contribute to the
Thomson family business. Besides, Harrison has already left Marifort City. If you go alone, it'll be too lonely."
Adeline's hand holding the fork paused.
"I just found out this morning that Harrison took the last flight back last night," Ronan said. "I don't know what's so urgent."
Adeline seemed indifferent and said, "I just need to finalize the last details with the business partner today. It's nothing major. I can handle it myself."
"Let me go with you anyway, so I can learn something," Ronan insisted.
Since he put it this way, Adeline didn't oppose further. After all, he was a Thomsons, going to negotiate the Thomson family business was only natural.
After finishing breakfast, the two of them went to meet with their business partners together.
Although Harrison wasn't there, the business partner knew their identities and positions and didn't dare to neglect them at all. After finalizing the work matters, they were invited to have lunch together.
"Thank you for your kindness, but we already have plans," Ronan smiled and declined.
Adeline thought to herself, "What plans?"
However, she thought Ronan simply didn't want to eat with the business partner, so she didn't expose him.
The business partner didn't insist, and after bidding them farewell, they left.
Adeline didn't feel like going out to have fun, so she planned to return to the hotel.
Ronan, however, grabbed her wrist.
"Adeline, let's go have a meal together, Okay?" Ronan said.
