Chapter 119: I GOT A CLUE
"Is this important?" Harrison said. "Anyway, you're the spokesperson for the Thomson Group's new product. Isn't that what you've always wanted?"
"But you know that's not what I want most!"
Eleanor exclaimed.
Harrison looked at her with indifferent eyes.
Under such a gaze, Eleanor gradually calmed down.
If she kept causing a scene like this, Harrison might replace her with another spokesperson.
Eleanor couldn't afford to lose the cooperation between them.
"Eleanor, there are some things I don't want to repeat countless times. This is the last time l'lI say it." Harrison's patience was wearing thin.
"During our collaboration, if you need any help, feel free to ask me, but our relationship is purely business. That was clear from the start."
If Eleanor couldn't accept that, she shouldn't have agreed in the first place.
But agreeing and then constantly backtracking was annoying.
"But we've known each other for so many years..." Eleanor tried to protest.
"By your logic, l've known my kindergarten classmates longer," Harrison said coldly.
Eleanor was speechless.
She never expected Harrison to say something like that.
Eleanor felt ridiculous and sad.
"I understand," she said with a bitter smile.
"But Harrison, I don't feel well right now. Can you stay with me?"
"If you're unwell, I'll arrange the best doctors and nurses for you," Harrison said.
Glancing at his wristwatch, he said, "I have other matters to attend to. I'll take my leave now. If you need anything, feel free to contact me anytime, I'll have someone arrange it for you." With that, he turned to leave.
Watching his back, Eleanor mustered her courage and said, "Harrison. Don't you want to know about what happened back then?"
Harrison halted, turning to look at her.
"What do you mean?" Harrison asked.
Eleanor gazed steadily at him and said, "Actually, I know a clue."
Harrison's eyes suddenly darkened.
He walked to the edge of the bed, sat down, and looked at her, asking coldly, "If you knew a clue, why didn't you say so earlier?"
Eleanor felt a bit startled by his gaze.
She forced herself to calm down and said, "I only found a few traces in the past few years abroad, and it's not solid evidence..."
"Go on," Harrison said.
Eleanor hesitated for a moment and said,
"I can tell you, but you have to promise me one condition."
"What condition?"
"To get engaged to me."
Harrison scoffed, ready to leave.
"After all these years of investigation, a few more won't matter," Harrison said.
Did Eleanor think she could blackmail him with some dubious clues?
Dream on.
Eleanor panicked, hastily saying, "We don't have to get engaged. I'll think of something else... Harrison, please don't go. Haven't you always wanted to know the truth about what happened back then? Even a slight clue shouldn't be ignored."
Adeline chatted with Lacey for a while.
Harrison didn't return even after Lacey fell asleep.
Adeline tucked Lacey in and left the ward.
Bianca was sitting on a bench outside the ward.
"Mr. Thomson still hasn't come back?" Bianca asked cautiously, looking at her. "Are you alright?"
Adeline smiled and said, "I'm fine. Mr. Thomson is always busy. It's usual for him to have something urgent to attend to."
Bianca hesitated, saying, "But I overheard two nurses gossiping. They said Eleanor is staying in this hospital now, and they even saw Mr. Thomson entering Eleanor's ward."
"Given their relationship, it's normal for Mr.
Thomson to visit her," Adeline remained composed. "It's none of our concern."
Bianca observed Adeline carefully.
She couldn't detect any sadness on Adeline's face.
Did Adeline not like Harrison? But Bianca felt this conclusion didn't quite add up.
"I'm going home now. I'm a bit tired," Adeline
said.
"You haven't eaten, have you? Remember to grab something to eat," Bianca said.
"Alright."
Adeline took the elevator downstairs.
When she reached the entrance, Adeline unexpectedly ran into Lauren.
Lauren's face lit up with surprise when she saw Adeline.
Lauren asked, "Ms. Hensley, what a coincidence to meet you here. Are you feeling unwell?"
"Yeah, my aunt is hospitalized. I came to visit," Adeline said with a smile. "What about you? Are you unwell?"
Lauren said, "Just a bit of stomach discomfort. The doctor said it's probably from drinking too much recently. Nothing serious."
Adeline wanted to advise her to drink less, but considering Lauren's profession, she felt her words might be useless and could potentially make Lauren feel worse.
Lauren hesitated for a moment and then said, "Ms. Hensley, have you had dinner? Let's grab something to eat together. I have something to discuss with you."
Adeline was somewhat surprised.
She hadn't met Lauren many times...
What could Lauren want to discuss with her?
"It's something important," Lauren added.
"Not suitable to talk about in public."
After a moment of thought, Adeline nodded and said, "Alright."
The two found a private restaurant and got a private room.
Since Lauren's stomach wasn't feeling well,
Adeline ordered some light dishes.
After the waiter left, Lauren began, "Ms. Hensley, a few days ago, some clients visited the club. I didn't go, but a few ladies who accompanied them back shared some gossip with me."
Pausing, she continued, "Those clients mentioned you."
Adeline furrowed her brows slightly, asking,
"What did they say?"
Anger flickered across Lauren's face.
Lauren said, "One of them said he had his eye on you for a long time, and then another one said, give it a few days, and he could get you. Another one said you're with Mr. Thomson, not so easy to get, and that guy said he had a way, just a little medicine and you'll be obedient."
Actually, what those clients said was even more vulgar.
Lauren couldn't bring herself to say it directly to Adeline, so she paraphrased it.
Hearing this, Adeline let out a cold laugh.
So, that was how it was.
Actually, Adeline had vaguely guessed some of it before.
So, she had already prepared herself.
But now, she could make even more thorough preparations.
"Of course, this is just what my workmates recounted. There might be some discrepancies, and we don't know if those men were just boasting, but it's best for you to be cautious lately. If necessary, tell Mr. Thomson about this and have him send someone to protect you."
Adeline nodded, saying, "I understand. Thank you for letting me know."
