Chapter 121: Blaming It All on Millie
"Stay down! Hands on your heads!" the police shouted.
A large group of police barged in, leaving everyone in the room bewildered.
Before they could react, all of them were swiftly subdued by the agile policemen.
Millie was terrified, she crouched down, hands clutching her head, and she shouted, "It's not my fault! It has nothing to do with me!"
But she was involved, and she couldn't shift the blame.
The police sternly reprimanded her, then proceeded to handcuff everyone in the room and escorted them out.
After walking a few steps, Millie suddenly saw Adeline standing in a corner.
Adeline's smirk pierced her deeply.
"You bitch! You set met up!" Millie screamed at her.
Adeline raised an eyebrow slightly, not responding.
Millie was just apprehended by the police as a suspect.
Adeline didn't want to be associated with a suspect, although she was the one who reported to the police...
Millie was led forward by the police, feeling a chill in her heart.
She thought, "So, Adeline has been acting with me all this time? She numbed my vigilance!"
Adeline didn't accept her apology from the beginning.
Adeline played her part exceptionally well.
If Adeline had shown a willingness to reconcile from the beginning, maybe she would have been suspicious.
Millie thought, "She's so scheming! But how did she know about the drugs we have here?"
Millie didn't have time to probe into it.
She was escorted to the police car, her heart pounding.
What should she do?
The bottle the man had was now in the hands of the police.
Those drugs, brought back by Kaylie from overseas, were strictly prohibited domestically, and once discovered hiding these drugs, they would lead to imprisonment.
Millie didn't want to go to jail!
The drugs were given to her by Kaylie, and the plan was arranged by Kaylie. Even those men were introduced by Kaylie. Millie was just an accomplice.
And Kaylie was the heiress of the Hickman family. She would definitely find a way to get them all out, right?
At the police station, during interrogation, Millie initially tried to be evasive, saying she just happened to meet those men and didn't know about the illicit drugs they had.
But the police weren't fooled by her.
In the end, Millie had to spill everything.
She claimed Kaylie was the mastermind behind it all and tried to paint herself as innocent. She was just following Kaylie's orders.
However, the interrogating officer informed her that the men she was with all testified unanimously that she was the mastermind.
They didn't even know Kaylie.
"What did you say?" Millie was shocked, "How is that possible? It was Kaylie. She orchestrated everything. Those men were introduced to me by her! How could they not know Kaylie?"
"Can you provide evidence that Kaylie is the mastermind?" asked the police.
"Of course I can!" Millie said, "I've talked to her on the phone so many times during this period!"
"That only proves you know Kaylie," the police said.
Millie panicked and said, "But those drugs were brought back by Kaylie from overseas.
She gave them to those men!"
"Do you have evidence?"
"I..."
Millie realized she had no evidence to prove that all these were Kaylie's doing.
From the time she knew Kaylie until now, they were alone when discussing plans, and Millie didn't even think about recording anything...
Plus, with the unanimous testimony of those men saying that they didn't know Kaylie, Millie was truly at a dead end now.
Millie felt a chill down her spine.
It seemed like Kaylie had planned from the beginning to shift all the blame onto Millie.
That was why Kaylie sought her out in the first place to team up against Adeline.
But it was she who had to face the consequences!
Kaylie was now completely in the clear.
"Anyway, those drugs were definitely brought back by Kaylie from overseas. You can investigate," Millie said.
Millie knew her chances of being acquitted of the charge were slim.
Kaylie had already decided to pin everything on her, so she wouldn't leave any evidence for others to find.
Millie shivered, sweat pouring down her face.
After Millie's arrest, Adeline felt somewhat relieved.
Regardless, she now had one less person opposing her.
But she knew that Millie couldn't possibly have obtained those drugs on her own.
There had to be a true mastermind behind her.
Adeline didn't have to rack her brains to figure it out it was Kaylie.
No wonder Kaylie had been so quiet lately.
It turned out that she was waiting for Millie to execute the plan.
But since Kaylie didn't show up today, it meant she had already prepared to distance herself from this matter.
Millie was just being used as a pawn.
But Millie deserved it.
She wouldn't be involved if she hadn't harbored evil intentions all along.
Today happened to be the weekend.
After leaving the KTV, Adeline went straight home.
She felt exhausted and was about to take a nap when she received a call from Bianca.
"Uncle caused a scene at my mom's place!"
Bianca's voice trembled. "He's yelling, demanding us to bring you to the hospital to see him, or he won't leave. My mom is so angry. I was thinking of calling security to drag him away, but my mom couldn't bear it..."
Adeline's drowsiness vanished instantly, replaced by fury.
She hadn't expected Mateo to be so outrageous.
Lacey was ill, and Mateo had caused a scene in Lacey's ward just to force Adeline to meet him.
How despicable he was!
"Got it. I'll come over right away," Adeline said.
Lacey couldn't be hash to Mateo, but Adeline wouldn't go easy on him.
Adeline rushed to the hospital and entered
Lacey's ward.
Sure enough, she saw Mateo sitting in a chair, shamelessly eating a banana.
Bianca and Oliver were there. Lacey was lying in bed, panting heavily.
Upon seeing her, Mateo smirked and said, "You unfilial daughter, you finally decided to see me?"
Adeline didn't say a word, just stared at him coldly.
Mateo was unnerved by Adeline's gaze.
"What are you glaring at me for?" Mateo insisted,"I'm your father! Even if I've made monumental mistakes, I'm still your father."
"You have the nerve to call yourself a father?"
Oliver couldn't hold back.
"You little brat, talking to your uncle like this?"
Mateo snapped angrily.
Oliver clenched his fists tightly.
He was itching to give Mateo a beating right now.
"Let's discuss it outside," Adeline said coldly.
"Don't disturb Lacey's rest."
