Chapter 136: Fire
Adeline felt her heart skip a beat. It was just a detail, but she couldn't help but feel warm.
She couldn't help but secretly turn her head to look at Harrison.
At that moment, he was focused on driving and didn't notice her gaze.
She really wanted to know what exactly he was thinking.
He said he and Eleanor weren't in that kind of relationship. She had to admit that when she heard that, she was very happy.
But after the happiness came confusion.
Adeline no longer knew how to handle their relationship.
She used to be clearer than anyone else, but with his change in attitude towards her, she repeatedly couldn't control herself, falling into the excitement he brought her.
The car stopped beside a large bridge.
Adeline and Harrison got out of the car and walked onto the bridge.
Below the bridge was a large lake, with various lights reflecting on its surface, as if a grand light show was quietly unfolding.
"Mr. Thomson, are we going to take a walk on the bridge?" Adeline couldn't help but ask
Harrison thought for a moment and said,
"Something like that. Let's stay here."
"What?"
Before Adeline understood, Harrison had already brought her to the edge of the bridge.
On the other side of the bridge was a commercial area, still bustling and lively even at this hour.
Standing on the bridge, Adeline could even hear the street performers singing.
"When I was young
"I'd listen to the radio
"Waitin' for my favorite songs
"When they played I'd sing along..."
A gentle breeze blew by, and as Adeline held her coffee, she suddenly felt that standing quietly with Harrison by the bridge, listening to the soft music, was quite enjoyable.
At that moment, Harrison raised his hand and looked at his watch.
"It's about time," he said.
Just as he finished speaking, a firework suddenly exploded in the sky, reflecting in Adeline's eyes.
"So beautiful," she murmured.
The fireworks kept exploding in the sky, as if showing their most beautiful moments just for her.
She was watching the fireworks, and Harrison was watching her.
"Do you like it?" he asked, his gaze intense.
"I do," Adeline said honestly.
After it ended, Adeline seemed still immersed in the fireworks show, not snapping out of it for a long time.
After a while, she softly asked, "Mr. Thomson, did you arrange this?"
Harrison didn't answer her question directly.
He just said, "As long as you like it."
"Why?" she asked.
The breeze gently lifted her hair.
She turned to meet his gaze.
He saw that her eyes seemed a bit red.
"Why?" she stugbornly asked again.
She probably mustered all her courage to ask this question. She thought that if Harrison's feelings were the same as hers, perhaps from this moment on, she would be willing to try her best for herself, for him, for them.
Harrison looked at her, seeming like he was about to say something.
He felt it was time to tell her his feelings.
Maybe she wouldn't accept it, or maybe she
would distance herself from him because of it, but at least, he could openly express his love for her.
Taking a deep breath, he called her name.
"Adeline."
Adeline's eyes widened, her heart pounding.
Harrison said, "I..."
Before he could finish, the sound of fire trucks interrupted him, growing louder and closer.
Several fire trucks soon sped past them.
The noise was so loud that he was afraid she wouldn't hear him, so he paused.
After the fire trucks passed, both of their phones rang simultaneously.
"Hello?"
"What's up?"
After hearing what the person on the other end of the line said, their faces changed.
After hanging up, Harrison asked grimly, "Did you get the news too?"
"Yes." Adeline nodded slightly. "Mr. Thomson, do you think it's a coincidence?"
Harrison snorted.
"I don't believe in such coincidences."
They had both just been informed that there was a sudden fire at their hotel.
Moreover, the fire had started in one of the rooms on their floor.
For some reason, the fire alarm didn't go off.
And the fire spread quickly.
Now, Harrison's room was already engulfed in flames.
Adeline nervously grabbed Harrison's wrist.
Adeline said, "It was aimed at you."
But who could be so ruthless?
It was clear someone wanted Harrison dead.
Seeing her nervous expression, Harrison smiled and reassured her, "Don't worry, I'm safe and sound."
It seemed the person who wanted to burn him alive hadn't anticipated that he would take Adeline out that night.
After all, normally, he should have finished the dinner meeting and been resting in the hotel by now.
Harrison said, "Let's go and check it out."
They returned to the hotel, which was already cordoned off.
The fire hadn't been completely extinguished yet, and Adeline could still see faint flames from the window of Harnson's room, making her heart tighten.
Fortunately, there were no casualties in the fire.
There was no one else on their floor beside them.
On the way, Adeline had already arranged for a new hotel.
Since such an incident happened at this hotel, she repeatedly instructed that security at the new hotel must be strengthened.
After all, it involved Harrison's life.
Even though she was usually calm, Adeline couldn't stay completely composed at this moment.
Seeing her nervousness, Harrison sighed and said, "I'll find someone else to investigate this matter. You don't need to."
"How can that be?" Adeline immediately said, "I must find out who set the fire."
"Listen to me," Harrison said firmly.
He didn't want her involved in anything that might be dangerous.
Adeline reluctantly said, "Alright then."
She thought to herself that she could investigate secretly.
However, as if he read her mind, Harrison said, "If I find out you're investigating behind my back, M'l be very upset."
Adeline was stunned.
Did he have mind-reading abilities?
After the fire was completely extinguished, Harrison had someone talk to the hotel staff.
The hotel management was terrified.
Although there were no casualties, the thought of such a big fire was scary enough.
The hotel owner personally rushed over, nervously apologizing to Harrison.
“Mr. Thomson, this was our negligence. If you have any requests, please let us know."
He was truly frightened. Everyone knew that offending Harrison would have serious
consequences.
