Chapter 100: She Definitely Cares
"Because what Ms. Hensley said makes sense. I also find it suspicious," Sam said.
Harrison didn't answer his question but instead asked, "Even if Ms. Hensley has a point, is she not even a little jealous?"
Sam replied with a wry smile.
Harrison's face darkened, and he hung up the phone.
He shouldn't have rushed to brag to Sam.
Now, the joy he just felt was gone.
He rubbed his temples.
He knew Adeline wouldn't harm him.
Was what she just said motivated by jealousy or concern for him and the Thomson Group?
He suddenly stood up, wanting to ask Adeline.
But after a moment, he sat back down.
What was he doing? If he went out and directly asked Adeline if she was jealous, she might think he was crazy.
Harrison sighed deeply and opened the drawer beside him.
He picked up the box and opened it,
revealing a sapphire necklace.
The moment he saw this necklace at the auction, he felt it was perfect for Adeline.
Unfortunately, before he could give it to her, they had a fight.
Until today, he still hadn't found the opportunity to give her the necklace.
People tend to feel drowsy in winter, especially in the afternoon.
While everyone was trying to stay awake and work, Amber suddenly got up and left.
When she returned, she was carrying several large bags.
With a smile, she said, "I ordered some coffee and snacks. Let's share."
Except for Adeline, everyone looked at each other.
Anna said, "You don't need to spend this money. There's plenty of coffee and snacks in the pantry."
"I know," Amber smiled, "but l noticed a new café nearby and thought it was nice. I wanted everyone to try something new. And since it's my first day, it's only right that I treat everyone. Please, don't be shy."
Still, nobody moved, all eyes turned to Adeline.
Adeline was busy with a document and hadn't paid attention to what Amber had just said.
Seeing this, Amber took a cup of coffee and placed it on Adeline's desk.
"Ms. Hensley, this coffee is for you. I asked the boss, and he said this is the best-selling coffee in their shop."
Adeline looked up, glanced at the coffee, and said, "Just leave it there. Thank you."
Seeing Adeline accept it, everyone approached to pick what they wanted and thanked Amber.
"You're welcome. I might need your support in the future," Amber said.
Finally, there was one cup of coffee left.
"I'll take this coffee to Mr. Thomson."
With that, Amber walked towards Harrison's office with the coffee.
Everyone was surprised.
Harrison never drank coffee from outside shops.
Moreover, except for Adeline, nobody could enter Harrison's office without being summoned. He would be angry.
"Ms. Hensley..." Anna called out to Adeline, wanting her to stop Amber.
However, Adeline shook her head at her.
Seeing Adeline like this, everyone became even more suspicious.
After a while, Amber came out of the office unscathed.
She still had a smile on her face, looking nothing like someone who had been scolded by Harrison.
While everyone appeared to be working diligently, their minds were swirling with speculation.
They were gossiping in their group chat.
"What's going on? Who is Amber?"
"Not only did she come out of nowhere, but she also received such special treatment!"
"She came empty-handed, which means Mr. Thomson accepted her coffee! How is that possible? Mr. Thomson never drinks coffee from outside shops!"
"Most importantly, she went in without knocking, and Mr. Thomson didn't seem upset at all!"
"Could she be related to the Thomson family? Is she Mr. Thomson's sister?"
"Don't make wild guesses. Her last name is not Thomson but Lawson, and besides, there's only one lady in the Thomson family, and she's studying abroad. It's possible Amber is a relative, though."
"But seeing how indulgent Ms. Hensley is towards Amber, I have a bold guess. Could it be that Ms. Hensley knows she's the future Mrs. Thomson, so..."
"Your guess is too scary!"
At that moment, Adeline calmly chimed in on the chat.
"Gossiping during work hours. Want to have your bonuses deducted?"
"Oops, forgot Ms. Hensley was in the group."
Everyone hastily stopped gossiping and returned to work.
But they weren't too worried. They knew Adeline was all bark and no bite. She might scold them a bit, but she wouldn't dock their bonuses over such a small matter.
After speaking in the group chat, Adeline went back to work.
After a while, she took some documents and walked into Harrison's office.
"Mr. Thomson, the documents."
She placed the documents on Harrison's desk and noticed the cup of coffee Amber had brought earlier.
It was still sealed with its lid, indicating Harrison hadn't touched it.
When Harrison looked up, he saw Adeline staring at the coffee Amber had brought.
His heart skipped a beat.
Why was Adeline so concerned about a cup of coffee?
Harrison was delighted.
"Adeline must care a lot," he thought.
Harrison signed the documents.
Adeline took the documents and was about to leave when Harrison said, "Ms. Hensley, wait.”
Adeline stopped.
Harrison opened a drawer and took out a velvet box, handing it to Adeline.
"It's for you."
He looked a bit awkward when he said this, as it was his first time giving a gift to someone he liked.
He wasn't sure if Adeline would like it.
"This is...”
Adeline took it skeptically and opened it.
When she saw the sapphire necklace inside, she fell silent.
Harrison had been observing her expression all this time, and when he saw her reaction, he couldn't help but ask, "What's wrong?"
He was feeling nervous.
But Adeline seemed even more nervous than him.
She asked, "Mr. Thomson, are you going to fire me?"
Harrison was speechless.
