Chapter 72: I Have No One on My Mind
As Adeline turned around, she saw a servant hurrying towards her, carrying a bag.
The servant ran up to her and handed her the bag, saying, "This is from Ms. Barrera. She made these snacks for you."
Since the servant had sent it over, Adeline couldn't refuse.
So she took it and smiled, saying, "Please thank Ms. Barrera for me."
"I will," said the servant.
As they got into the car, Harrison started the engine and asked, "What did my mom say to you?"
"Nothing much," Adeline replied casually.
She didn't want there to be any conflict between Harrison and his mother because of her.
Adeline's mother had passed away a long time ago.
Adeline had always missed her.
Afraid that Harrison would ask further, Adeline changed the subject and said, "Milania is nice.
She especially sent me some snacks to take away."
"Milania has always been easy to get along with," Harrison said.
"Do you like her?"
"She's great."
After all, it was Adeline's first time meeting Milania. She did have a favorable impression of her, but it wasn't a matter of liking or not.
"Is that so?" Harrison chuckled, "I thought maybe you liked Ronan, so you extended that to his mother."
Adeline was speechless.
Where did he get that idea?
"I'm not into Mr. Ronan," Adeline said.
Harrison casually asked, "What about Russell then?"
Adeline was puzzled.
Why bring up Russell out of the blue?
"I'm not into Mr. Hunter either," Adeline said decisively.
After some thought, she added, "I'm not into anyone. Right now, I just want to focus on my work."
Adeline was Harrison's secretary.
What he feared most should be her not taking her work seriously.
So she needed to make her stance clear.
However, what she didn't expect was that her words made Harrison's initial excitement disappear in an instant.
Harrison drove in silence, no longer speaking to Adeline.
If he didn't speak, Adeline wouldn' t either, to avoid saying anything wrong and further upsetting him.
The car stopped at the Shurford Residence, and just as Adeline was about to get out, she heard Harrison say, "Ms. Hensley."
Adeline's hand, about to open the car door, paused. She turned back, forcing a smile, "Is there anything else?"
Harrison looked at her intently and said, "In the future, if you encounter any problems, I hope you can tell me."
He knew that after being with him for five years, she must have gotten used to his way of dealing with people and matters. She probably thought he was indifferent and wouldn't care about her personal matters.
But with her, he wasn't that cold.
Adeline stared at him blankly for a moment before understanding the meaning behind his words.
"I understand," Adeline said, lowering her gaze. "Thank you, Mr. Thomson."
Harrison's heart, which had just softened, became irritated again at her response.
"Get out of the car," he said coldly.
After getting out of the car, Adeline watched him drive away before heading upstairs.
But Harrison was still feeling restless, making him not even want to go home to sleep.
He parked the car at the Shurford Residence entrance, took out his phone, and called Sam.
As soon as Sam picked up, Harrison heard booming music on the other end.
It was obvious Sam was at a nightclub.
Harrison found it too noisy, so he held his phone away from his ear a bit.
"Hey? Harrison? What's up?" Sam shouted.
"Come out for a drink." Harrison said.
"Huh? What did you say? I can't hear you," Sam shouted.
Harrison twitched his mouth, hung up the phone directly, and sent Sam a message.
[Come out for a drink, same place.]
Harrison hadn't been at the club for long when Sam arrived in a flurry.
"Harrison, what's up? Why are you asking me out for a drink at this time?" Sam asked.
He was dressed in flashy clothes, which furrowed Harrison's brows.
"What are you wearing?" Harrison asked.
Sam looked down, grinned, and said, "You don't get it. This is my new disco outfit. You know what? When I stand in the middle of the dance floor, all the girls are sneaking glances at me!"
"They're probably thinking you're ridiculous," Harrison said.
"So you called me out just to hurt my pride?" Sam said.
Harrison was about to say something when suddenly, there was a knock at the door.
"Come in," Sam said.
Lauren walked in, holding a bottle of wine.
"Mr. Thomson, Mr. Juarez," Lauren smiled. "I heard you guys were here, so I brought you a bottle of wine."
"See, Lauren is so considerate," Sam said. "Just leave it here."
Lauren walked over and placed the wine on the table. After opening it, she poured a glass for Harrison and Sam each.
"But Lauren, weren't you supposed to be at the club this afternoon? When we came this afternoon, why didn't you come to entertain us?" Sam asked with a smile.
Lauren lowered her gaze and said, " I'm sorry, Mr. Juarez. I wasn't feeling well this afternoon."
"Not feeling well... Is it physically unwell, or mentally unwell?"
"How could I feel unwell working under you, Mr. Juarez?" Lauren's expression remained unchanged.
But she felt lost.
She wasn't feeling mentally unwell this afternoon, of course.
This afternoon, she had wanted to come and see Harrison, but they were here this afternoon to celebrate Eleanor's return.
Everyone said Eleanor was Harrison' s sweetheart, and her return this time was to reconcile with Harrison.
And Harrison didn't seem to deny it.
He even let the rumors brew online.
The more Lauren thought about it, the sadder she became.
She knew with her status, she could never be with Harrison.
But reason couldn't overcome her sadness.
She was afraid that if she came and saw Harrison with Eleanor, she would lose control, so she simply didn't come.
"Lauren is good at making people happy. Come, cheer up Mr. Thomson. He doesn't seem too happy right now," Sam said.
She was about to sit next to Harrison when he said, "You should leave."
Lauren's legs froze in place.
"Well, then, I'll leave first. If you need anything, just let me know," Lauren said, looking at Harrison reluctantly before leaving.
"Harrison, why are you so heartless? There's no one else here right now. Let Lauren
accompany you," Sam said. "You're hurting her feelings."
"That's not a hobby of mine," Harrison said. "If you want her to stay, tell her to come back."
"Forget it then. She said she works for me, but her heart is all on you. Even if I pressure her, she still won't reconcile with me," Sam said.
He took a sip of his drink and said, "So, spill it. What's got you feeling down?"
