One night stand with my president(chapter 75)

Chapter 75: Assigning Someone Else to Investigate

Adeline was taken aback.

"There are still no clues," she said, trying to keep her expression neutral. "The hotel surveillance was damaged, and that woman left no traces in the room. It's hard to investigate. I've also checked all the guests who checked in that night, and there's nobody suspicious."

After saying this, Harrison remained silent.

Just when Adeline was feeling uneasy, Harrison suddenly said,

"You don't need to investigate this anymore. I'll assign someone else to handle it."

Harrison didn't want Adeline to be reminded of the foolish one-night stand he had with another woman every time she investigated this matter.

So, he thought it would be better to let someone else handle it.

Adeline was stunned.

"Why?" Adeline asked hastily.

If someone else investigated and it led back to her, it would be disastrous.

Perhaps not expecting her to question further, Harrison glanced at her.

Adeline quickly added, "I've been investigating this matter all along. If it's handed over to someone else now, it'll just be a waste of time starting from scratch."

"You're usually busy with work. Don't worry about this," Harrison said. "I'll have someone else investigate."

Adeline's heart sank.

She couldn't control her expression for a moment, and Harrison noticed something amiss. "Ms. Hensley, is there a problem?"

With things having reached this point, Adeline couldn't find a reason to insist on taking over the investigation.

She could only say, "Nothing."

With that, she opened the file in her hand and began reporting Harrison's schedule for the day as usual.

However, Harrison couldn't shake the feeling that something was off about her, but he couldn't pinpoint it for the moment.

After the report, Adeline asked, "Mr. Thomson, any other issues?"

"None," Harrison replied.

"Then I'll leave first."

"Hmm."

Adeline gave Harrison another deep look before turning and leaving the office.

What she didn't know was that after she left, Harrison also looked up, deeply observing her retreating figure.

Harrison noticed that Adeline seemed somewhat off just now.

However, incidents where she handed over unfinished work to others had happened before.

Harrison thought, "She has never shown any objection before. Why was she acting so unusually today? Could it be that she was related to that night's incident?"

But Harrison couldn't figure out how it could be related to Adeline.

Firstly, he trusted Adeline. No matter what happened, she wouldn't plot against him.

Secondly, judging by Kaylie's demeanor, if it was related to Adeline, how could Kaylie possibly conceal it?

Then, what else didn't he know?

It seemed like something fleeting crossed his mind, but he couldn't grasp it.

After leaving the office, Adeline went straight to the pantry.

At the moment, she felt a chill all over and only hot water could barely make her feel better.

After drinking a cup of hot water, she calmed down a bit.

She had reassured herself many times about that night's incident.

The hotel's surveillance footage was damaged, and there were many people coming and going that night, so nobody would remember her visiting that hotel.

Even if Harrison had someone investigate, they wouldn't easily trace it back to her.

As long as she held out until the end of the year, everything would be over.

Now, all she had to do was to maintain her composure and not let Harrison see any clues.

During the afternoon meeting, Harrison announced Eleanor's collaboration with the Thomson Group as a brand ambassador.

The senior executives all agreed.

After all, Eleanor was very popular, and having her as a brand ambassador would definitely be beneficial to the company.

Moreover, there were many people online shipping Harrison and Eleanor.

Announcing Eleanor as the Thomson Group's brand ambassador would further boost the products' popularity.

Adeline sat to Harrison's right, looking at Eleanor's photo on the computer screen.

Harrison couldn't wait to make Eleanor the Thomson Group's brand ambassador as soon as she returned to the country.

Harrison seemed he couldn't wait to lavish all the good things on her.

Just then, Harrison noticed his phone screen light up on the table.

Someone was calling him.

He usually didn't answer calls during meetings.

However, after seeing the caller ID this time, he picked up the phone.

"What is it?" His voice was cold, but it still caught the attention of everyone in the meeting room.

People exchanged glances, the air filled with gossip.

Whoever could make Harrison answer a call during a meeting? That person must be extraordinary.

The person on the other end said something, causing Harrison to furrow his brow.

He glanced at Adeline, his expression seemingly complicated.

Adeline wasn't sure why he was looking at her, but she had a feeling something bad had happened.

"Understood, I'll be there immediately."

Ending the call, Harrison said, "The meeting is canceled, rescheduled for tomorrow morning."

With that, he got up and left.

Adeline also stood up immediately and followed behind him.

"Mr. Thomson, what happened?" Adeline asked after leaving the office.

Harrison said flatly, "Something happened to Eleanor."

Adeline's heart skipped a beat.

They had just finalized Eleanor's collaboration with the Thomson Group.

If something happened to Eleanor, the collaboration would surely be put on hold, and many plans would be delayed.

"Come with me," Harrison said.

"Okay."

Adeline followed Harrison out of the company, heading to Lindver Residence where Eleanor lived.

On the way, Adeline felt a lingering sense of unease.

She often accompanied Harrison to handle various matters, so technically, it wasn't strange for Harrison to bring her along.

But for some reason, she felt Harrison's demeanor was strange.

The car stopped at No. 16 of Lindver Residence.

Eleanor's assistant, Sidney, was already waiting at the door.

As soon as she saw Harrison, her eyes turned red, saying, "Mr. Thomson, you finally came. Eleanor has been crying so hard. Please go in and see her."

With that, she shot a fierce glare at Adeline.

Adeline didn't understand why Sidney was glaring at her.

Harrison immediately walked towards the house.

Adeline followed closely behind, and Sidney walked beside her.

Adeline could feel Sidney's hostility towards her.

But she didn't have time to dwell on this.

Upon entering the living room, Adeline was shocked to see Eleanor.

Eleanor had a large red welt on the right side of her face, looking extremely alarming.

Her eyes were swollen from crying, indicating she had been crying for quite some time.

"Harrison..."

Upon seeing Harrison, Eleanor burst into tears again.

Sobbing, she said, "Look at my face. What am I going to do?"

Harrison approached her, frowning, "What happened?"

Eleanor just cried and couldn't speak.

At this moment, Sidney looked at Adeline and raised her voice, saying, "It's all because of Ms. Hensley!"
