Chapter 94: You Don't Need to Come
This young woman was Adeline's cousin , Bianca Hudson.
Passing by Adeline, Bianca couldn't help but roll her eyes at her.
Adeline couldn't be bothered to argue with her.
The relationship between these two had never been good since childhood. They always ended up quarreling whenever they met.
However, Bianca was not like Millie at all.
Bianca might have exchanged some banter with her, but Millie had malicious intentions.
"Mom, what's wrong?" Bianca rushed to Lacey's bedside and started crying. "Why did you suddenly end up in the hospital? I was so scared when Oliver called me!"
"I'm fine. Don't worry." Lacey reassured her.
Oliver said helplessly, "Mom is the one who's sick now, and you're expecting her to comfort you? Isn't that unreasonable?"
Bianca thought about it and realized he was right.
Wiping away her tears, Bianca asked, "But what's wrong with Mom?"
"The doctor said she needs to stay in the hospital for further tests," Adeline replied.
"Yes." Oliver nodded quickly.
"Bianca, you and dad were not home tonight, and I was so worried. Luckily, Adeline was on the phone guiding me on what to do."
Bianca snorted coldly and said, "You're grown up, and you still need someone to guide you on such matters? Besides, I'm your sister. Why didn't you call me first?"
"Well..." Oliver innocently rubbed his nose.
He didn't dare to say in front of Bianca that he relied more on Adeline.
"Enough, Bianca. Adeline is like your sister too, right? Why are you making a fuss about this?" Lacey advised. "By the way, you two must be hungry. Go out and grab something to eat."
"Lacey, are you hungry?" Adeline asked. "I'll go get you something to eat."
"I'm not hungry yet. Don't worry about me. Just go out and eat something, and bring me back whatever," Lacey said.
"Then you two go grab a bite. I'll stay here with Mom, and bring me back something to eat too," Oliver said.
Bianca glanced at Adeline and said,
"Let's go. I'll treat you to dinner."
Adeline wasn't hungry.
But she was hungry, and she was afraid she couldn't hold out and might faint from hunger.
At this point, she couldn't afford to create any more trouble.
So Adeline went out of the hospital with Bianca and found a restaurant.
After ordering, Bianca looked at Adeline, her tone softened.
"How's work been lately?" Bianca asked.
"Same as usual," Adeline said.
"Same as usual," Adeline said.
"And you?"
Bianca smiled bitterly, "I'm exhausted from this job. Running around all day, dealing with difficult clients. I regret not studying hard and getting into a good college."
Adeline opened her mouth to speak but didn't know what to say to her.
Everyone could talk about high principles.
But at times like this, preaching obviously wouldn't comfort Bianca.
However, it seemed that no matter how tired Bianca was, she never came to ask for her help.
Previously, a relative had asked Adeline to arrange jobs for him.
But Adeline didn't want to use her connections to help relatives, so she politely declined.
That relative even held a grudge against Adeline and spoke ill of her among the relatives all the time.
But Bianca had never done such a thing.
She always relied on herself and worked hard.
"By the way, my mom told me the other day that Millie and her mom did something nasty to you," Bianca said with a serious expression.
Adeline didn't want to bring up that night again.
So she just nodded silently.
"I've known that they weren't up to any good!" Bianca cursed, "I'venever liked them since we were kids. Always scheming and playing dirty tricks."
Adeline looked at her in surprise.
From childhood to adulthood, relatives were often deceived by Millie and her mother.
Unexpectedly, Bianca saw through them very accurately.
"Next time I see them, I'l definitely give them a piece of my mind," Bianca said. "How could they do such things? As for me, if I don't like you, I'll just confront you directly. What's the point of scheming behind someone's back?”
Adeline was speechless.
They did fight when they were young.
Sometimes Bianca won, and sometimes Adeline won.
Soon, their spaghetti was served.
Adeline messaged Harrison while eating.
It was almost eleven o'clock now.
Harrison must have been impatiently waiting.
Indeed, as soon as the call connected, Harrison's displeased voice came through.
"Adeline, are you lost?"
Adeline cautiously said, "I'm sorry, Mr. Thomson, but I can't come over tonight."
"What did you say?" Harrison's voice immediately turned cold.
Adeline wanted to explain, but before she could speak, Harrison said, "So, you're going back on your word again? And after making me wait for hours?"
"Mr. Thomson, I'm sorry, but I..."
"You don't need to come."
With that, Harrison hung up the phone.
Adeline listened to the "beep" from the receiver, feeling uneasy.
She knew she was in the wrong.
But on Lacey's side, Adeline was afraid of any further mishaps.
"What's wrong? Something going on at your company?" Bianca asked.
"It's not exactly a company matter," Adeline said.
Harrison's illness should be a private matter between them.
"But I just heard you call him Mr. Thomson. Is he your boss?" Bianca asked again. "If you have something to do, you should go after we finish eating. My mom's here with me. Nothing will happen."
Adeline was about to say something when Bianca added, "Tonight, Oliver and I will be here. It's fine if you're not here. And with the three of us, there won't be enough room to sleep anyway. You might as well go take care of your business. If anything happens, I will call you."
Adeline thought for a moment and nodded. "Okay."
She did want to go see Harrison, at least to apologize in person.
After finishing their spaghetti, Bianca packed two pieces back to the hospital, while Adeline headed to Harrison's house.
Now that the subway and buses had stopped running, she hailed a taxi after getting off at Harrison's doorstep.
After getting off the taxi at Harrison's house, she saw that it was pitch black inside.
Adeline wondered if he had already gone to bed.
She hesitated for a moment but decided to step inside.
The living room was dark, and Adeline relied on the moonlight streaming in to move around.
She had just reached the stairs, ready to go up, when she suddenly heard a faint sound of footsteps behind her.
Adeline's heart skipped a beat, and she was immediately on guard.
Adeline thought, "Could there be a thief breaking in? Harrison is still sick... I can t let
anything happen to him!"
The footsteps behind her seemed to be getting closer.
Adeline pursed her lips.
When the footsteps stopped behind her, Adeline abruptly turned around, raising her bag to strike the person.
