Chapter 71: Incomparable Nature
After a moment of thought, Adeline said, "I just wanted to come and visit Lorenzo, nothing else."
Myra chuckled, "You're quite clever, knowing it won't work with me, so you re trying to please Lorenzo!"
She could tell that Lorenzo was very attentive to Adeline, as if he was quite pleased with Adeline being his daughter-in-law.
Myra didn't know what he was thinking. The Thomson family was top-notch, and Harrison was the one in power If his wife didn't come from a good family, how would others judge them? Harrison would be ridiculed.
"Mrs. Thomson, I didn't mean that," Adeline said
Adeline wanted to explain, but suddenly a cheerful voice interrupted, "What's going on?
Myra, why are you so angry?"
A kindly-looking, plump middle-aged woman walked into the flower hall, holding a plate of snacks in her hands.
The middle-aged woman approached, placing the snacks on the table, and then smiling at Adeline, saying, "You must be Ms. Hensley. It's a pleasure to meet you. You truly are beautiful."
Adeline hadn't met this woman before, and Myra didn't seem inclined to introduce her.
The middle-aged woman introduced herself and said, "I'm Ronan's mother, Milania Barrera."
"Ms. Barrera, pleased to meet you," Adeline said quickly.
"Oh dear, please don't be so formal. I'm not used to being addressed like that," Milania said amiably. "Just call me Milania."
Milania's background was not inferior to Myra's.
But Harrison's qualifications were average, so he was currently only managing a relatively small subsidiary.
Ronan had just graduated from university and was only a deputy director at the Thomson Group, so Myra always felt a step above Milania.
However, Mllania always have a good temperament. She was always friendly when talking to anyone and had never had a falling out with anyone.
"These are freshly made snacks. Myra, Ms. Hensley, please try them." Milania warmly invited them.
Myra replied indifferently, "I don't eat sweets at night."
"That's alright. I'll make some during the day next time," Milania said with a good temper.
"Ms. Hensley, please try them."
Adeline wasn't in the mood for it, but it was hard to refuse such kindness, so she picked one up and ate it.
There was a faint fragrance of osmanthus in the cakes.
"It's delicious," Adeline sincerely remarked.
"Do you like it? This is my first attempt, and I was worried it wouldn't turn out well," Milania said happily. "If you enjoy it, I'll pack some for you to take home when you leave later."
"There's no need to trouble yourself," Adeline quickly declined.
"Oh, don't be so polite. What trouble is there?" Milania insisted.
Myra looked coldly at the two of them.
She didn't understand why Milania had come over at this time. Was she trying to support Adeline?
If Milania liked Adeline so much, then she should just be with Ronan.
Myra couldn't wish for anything more.
However, Harrison was stubborn and refused to let Adeline go.
It was just a secretary. She didn't know why Harrison insisted on keeping her by himself.
Myra was very worried that maybe Adeline wasn't trying to climb the social ladder at all, but it was her son who was clinging onto her.
The atmosphere, which had been somewhat awkward, improved slightly with Milania's arrival.
Milania was very talkative and friendly, so talking to her put no pressure on Adeline at all.
But she has to ignore Myra's unfriendly glances.
After a while, another person walked in.
It was Harrison.
"Milania." Harrison nodded slightly in greeting to Milania.
"Harrison, it feels like it's been a long time since I've seen you," Milania said. "How's Ronan been doing at the company recently?
Has he caused you any trouble?"
"He's been doing well at work," Harrison replied.
"That's good. He's still young, so if there's anything, you should guide him more," Milania advised.
Harrison nodded, then looked at Adeline and asked, "Are you done? I'll take you back."
Adeline looked at Myra.
Myra said coldly to Harrison, "Just have the driver take Ms. Hensley back, and you can stay at the mansion tonight."
"I have something to attend to. I'll drop her off on the way," Harrison replied.
"It's already late. What could you possibly have to do?" Myra's tone was somewhat confrontational.
Harrison remained silent, gazing at Myra.
"Oh Myra, young people are different from when we were young. They all have nightlife," Milania quickly intervened.
"Harrison, take Ms. Hensley back now. Be careful on the way.”
Harrison said to Adeline, "Let's go."
Adeline was about to say goodbye to Myra and Milania and leave with him when suddenly, a servant came in carrying a pot of something.
"I almost forgot. This is the plum soup I made earlier. It's quite tasty. Harrison, Ms. Hensley, would you like to have a cup before you leave?" Milania said.
"No need, Milania," Harrison declined.
Milania, being her usual enthusiastic self, even though Harrison refused, poured a cup and handed it to him, saying, "It's delicious. Give it a try."
But she was a bit hasty, so when she handed it to Harrison, her hand trembled, causing some soup to spill onto Harrison's hand.
"Oh my! Where are the tissues? Do we have any tissues?" Milania asked.
Everyone knew Harrison was a neat freak.
Just as everyone was about to offer him tissues, Adeline had already handed wet wipes to Harrison.
Harrison took them and wiped the soup off his hand, and then Adeline handed him a dry tissue.
The interaction between the two was incredibly natural.
"Ms. Hensley, you act fast," Milania laughed. "You've formed an understanding during your five years together."
Adeline felt a tingling sensation on her scalp.
Her actions just now were purely habitual.
But Myra was probably going to be displeased again.
Harrison tossed the tissue into the trash and said to Milania, "Milania, I'll skip the plum soup. We should get going now."
After that little incident, Milania didn't insist on promoting her plum soup anymore, so she bid farewell to the two of them.
Adeline said goodbye to Myra again, but Myra just lowered her eyes and sipped her tea, ignoring her.
Harrison led Adeline away, and Milania glanced at Myra, smiling, " Myra, why bother? I think Ms. Hensley is great. She and Harrison are a perfect match.”
Myra replied coldly, "Harrison is my son. Whether they are a match or not is not for you to you to decide."
Milania shrugged and said,"Alright, forget I said anything. Oh, I need to have some snacks packed for Ms. Hensley to take with her."
With that, she hurriedly left the flower hall.
Just as Adeline was about to leave with Harrison, she heard someone calling her from behind.
"Ms. Hensley, wait!"
